Brother.. I finally find someone who has the on-x valve and has the same issue as me The TICKING is so loud. I had my 2nd open heart in 2015 for my first aortic valve replacement. I did tons of research into valves and chose the On-X for many reasons, 1st being the FDA approved lower Coumadin levels. 2nd their website stated that the valve was quieter than other valves. 3rd the safety that doesn’t allow for tissue to grow on the flap of the valve causing it to malfunction. I was the first patient to receive this valve in one of the largest hospitals in Miami, FL. Don’t get me wrong by any means.. I feel truly blessed to be here with my family and loved ones and it’s a blessing to even have this valve. But, this TICKING has caused me to have severe anxiety, insomnia and even caused me issues with my marriage as I have to now let my wife go to sleep first, then I can come into the room to lay down and sleep. The ticking is so loud in a quiet bedroom to the point that my wife could not fall a sleep as it was louder than one of those ticking bedside clocks. I honestly thought I had a malfunctioning valve or that i got a valve with an issue. I followed up with all my doctors and even the nurses have told me they have never heard a valve so loud and have had many patients with the st jude valves that you can’t hear. Anyway, it’s good to vent a little about this issue. I am Thankful to God in everything he’s given me and I know the ticking is a life adjustment that I must learn to live with for the rest of my life. But, to any future valve patients.. take your time to choose your valve and just know that these on-x valves which I believe now go by another name since the company was sold are extremely loud and that should be a factor to consider. God Bless you all! Johnny

Glad to see both of you are doing well. At least you know it's still working🙏🏽 what INR are you kept at?
@Miamijohnny
@Miamijohnny 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you.. I keep my INR between 2-3 but it can be lower with the on-x valve. I keep it a little high because besides my aortic valve, I have A-Fib and Tachycardia at random times. Better be safe than sorry. I did have a complication that was only found 3 years later.. when they sow on the valve to your aorta, the body recognizes that it’s a foreign body and seals the valve by growing tissue all around the valve thus sealing it in place. Due to some issue.. mine didn’t seal completely and I had a pretty bad leak on one of the sides of the valve between the aorta wall and the valve. Due to this I was still have dizzy spells, didn’t have energy and I thought it was the recovery process so just go with it. Finally after going in monthly to the ER for a year, they locate this leak. By this time it was a bad leak and they were telling me I might need to have another open heart which would me my 3rd. Thank God a really good doctor that dedicates himself to valve repairs was able to go Into my heart by catheter and plug up the leak and almost eliminated the entire leak. I only have a very small leak now and heart and valve are functioning great.

Another thing.. I monitor my INR at home and do it once a month mostly, twice to three times a month if I happen to consume a lot of vitamin K

The ticking is definitely loud, but it's also a constant reminder that I am still alive. It's awkward during prayer time at church when it's really quiet and my clicks are very audible. haha I got my On-X in November of 2022 and have felt great ever since. Despite having open-heart surgery, I felt good enough to go back to work within a week of my surgery and have been rocking and rolling ever since. You're just shy of 10 years now, so hopefully all is still well. Take care!

wow, about 4 years ago this past December I had an Aortic Aneurysm that was found for some chest pain and I had the aoritic throat replaced and the valve. At first it was load but over time I rarely notice it. I couldn't tell ya what model it is but it was a small little valve made out of some kinda of cobalt steel the Doc said and should last a lifetime. My last yearly CT checkup should an increasing false lumen and they are probably going to go back in a repair it - on my aorta again. They think it's from marfan's syndrome. Probably the end of the summer, sill do another CT. I see you're a UT fan. I remember going to their games when I was a kid, I finished HS in Loudon TN, Parents are from Loudon and Lenoir City just South of Knoxville. Well, here's to a life of Metoprolol and Warfarin! :)

I'll need another valve replacement surgery soon. I had a Ross Procedure in 2012 to repair a bicuspid aortic valve. I'm still very active at 47 and sure hate the idea of open heart surgery every 8-10 years. Starting to look at mechanical valves which brought me here. I love your attitude, how are things holding up?

I was also considering Ross since I am 35, for severe AV Regurg. But after looking on ONx if I could stay at INR 1.9 I think it's the better choice for me. Along with a low cholesterol low fat diet to help prevent strokes.

@@thereisonlyonelordgod I received my ON-x on July 27th and quickly adjusted to the ticking. I recovered very fast and was playing racquetball and running in 8 weeks. I'm not lifting heavy for 1 year (Dr's orders) but do anything I want. My INR goal is 1.8-2.5 and I'm always at 1.9-2.1. I wish I would've done the ON-x for my first surgery instead of Ross. Managing food is easy and I do enjoy wine quite often. Robert was an excellent source of information for me - thanks Robert!!

@@rcdixon76 That's awesome Chris! I will be definitely going with the ON-X Valve rather than the Ross. 1.9 to 2.1 sounds great! Looking to have it done next month. Thank you for the advice!

@@thereisonlyonelordgod Good luck. You can also ask your Dr. about the clinical trials currently going on for the On-x valve for "Eluquis." Once this blood thinner is approved, INR testing will not be required. This is one of the reasons I went for the On-x. I understand Eliquis is a bit expensive but it will make INR management a breeze. The main benefit of the On-x is of course the durability. I hope to get 100 years out of it! ;-)

Had my ON-X mech valve installed in Feb 2010, noise has never been a problem for me since the first month, as I recall. I forget its presence, other than for the daily dosage of Warfarin required. Only once during the first ten years did my PT/INR level require a visit and overnight stay in the emergency room. Since then I am extra-careful with my dosaging. Wishing all who are considering the valve and those who have received one the very best of success. Just a note to all, I am soon turning 79 years old and will be looking forward to 89.
