As a German/European, I want to address something that has been always on my mind, when talking about the military service and military culture in the US. I think the "thank you for your service" attitude and celebration of the military service in American media and elsewhere enables these institutions which do the "carrot dangling" of the army with healthcare and education, as you mentioned it. A more critical view might help highlighting what is wrong with the military as an institution that lures Americans in who can't afford the too expensive healthcare and education system.

This is one of the most insightful interviews I've ever watched. This war vet is absolutely phenomenal. I could literally be talking myself having some of the same diagnosis. Stay strong...manners and respect to you sir.

This was a perfect interview in my eyes. This man is absolutely inspiring. I just got diagnosed with pmdd and cptsd and am currently looking for a therapist. I'm dealing with severe depression as well so it can be difficult getting that motivation. But this has really helped me, a lot. Thank you for sharing with us

Hi Chris I never thought about the correlation between education/Healthcare and the military! I almost signed up because I had no way to pay for college.

Justin did so well in articulating and painting a picture of how far he's come, where he is now, and what he's aiming for. So much respect for his honesty, vulnerability, and for being a voice for others who see themselves in him.

This was eye-opening to me. I totally agree with people on the outside needing to show people patience, it is extremely important. Also never listen to anyone who has never been through depression/anxiety etc, they will never understand. Listen to proper professionals and one you can talk to. Thankyou for sharing.

Justin, first of all, we share BPD, BiPolar 2 & PTSD, differently from yours, but I do get constant nightmares of what happened to me when I was young. You're 100 % correct & valued about your feelings about suffering with Borderline Personality Disorder. I, too, have NO skin, per say, always overly emotional & feel no control. I really feel for you & I hope your future gets much better.

As someone with BPD, my coping mechanism has been to not build any relationships at all. It's a difficult thing to deal with. I'm glad to see him working hard to function!

Maybe I need to get diagnosed, all of this resonates with me and I'm on your side. Much easier to focus on myself, job, education than it is to spend time with others and feeling like I lose everyone anyways.

@@macstar95 That's me as well. Almost entirely career focused nowadays, and it's become an addiction. I guess I've replaced my dependency on others with dependency for being busy haha

This isn't healthy and won't help. Please consider seeing a competent professional therapist who is a fit for you. All the best.

I have bipolar disorder and ptsd as well. What a journey! Thank you for opening up and sharing! When I was diagnosed, I felt so alone, and still do. I don't know anyone with bpd. There isn't any handbook on how to deal with it or what to expect. I definitely went down the path of hurting myself. I would feel so depressed and numb, I literally put my entire hand in a boiling 5 gallon pot of oil. I barely felt it. If you know anyone with bipolar disorder. Please show grace. Research what it is we go through. We have to deal with the instability of each day. It's so frustrating. For me, I try really hard to stay on top of my meds and share with those close to me how I'm feeling. When I'm really depressed, if I'm having a hard time doing things, it's not because I'm lazy, it's just so hard. Sometimes I can overcome it and sometimes I can't. But, we try. We try really hard! So much love out there to all of my BP homies out there!!!
