Living with Stage 4 Breast Cancer: My Journey with Radiation

My name is Jeralyn (you can call me Jeri). I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017 which became metastatic and spread to my bones. I've been living with stage 4 cancer for 6 years. Recently my doctors found a mass growing behind my eye which they believe to be cancer, however since it's so close to my optic nerve it's too dangerous to do a biopsy. We all agreed the best treatment for me was radiation. This is my journey.

Keep positive and stay healthy 🙏🏽🙌❤️. At least 9 yrs ago my sister was diagnosed with BC and both specialists wanted to do mastectomy. Due to her strong Christian faith she said no surgery or radiation "I will change my diet." Since then she did a 360° and exercises routinely, no meat or dairy products + praying. Well, today she's still working 40 hours per week and by the grace of God she's doing great!

Well done Jeri - I used to be a radiation therapist here in the U.K. Wearing the immobilisation mask is difficult for most patients - as a student we all had masks made so that we could experience what it’s like being clamped to the treatment couch. It’s tough - anyone who goes through this treatment is a warrior.

My sister received treatment at that same hospital when she was about 6 years old. Seeing the inside again was emotional. This was back in the 90s so many things have changed but I still recognize the waiting room and the elevator you take to get there. I love your positivity. There's so much we can't control but having that attitude makes difficult times easier.

Jeri , I tried my best to keep my brother encourage, who had throat cancer and eventually had to have his larynx removed, because I feel the ball was dropped in his case, he eventually required removal of his voice box and radiation therapy every day for weeks. Initially, he was given just radiation therapy but continued to have severe problems as he was under going radiation. Presently, he is using his mechanical voice box and is doing the best he can considering his circumstances. I, said all of this to say, people have a strong desire to live, be able to address their problems and live a good life. I am hoping everything goes well for you. You are an example for many people and a very bright light, when our issues may present things that maybe difficult or may present such as gloom and doom.
