Hit a 4” deep pothole like we suffer on any of our rural roads around where I live and I can just wince at the thought of the wheel in the hole left spinning in air as the bottom of the battery graunches along the road …. Just before the whole thing tips over. It was very noticeable how the car was driven by weaving all over the width of the roads to avoid speed bumps and relatively minor potholes. I like the idea in principle, but it looks like a total death trap if driven on roads shared with vans, trucks and buses.

Do you really want to be driving round a city in basically a Coke can on wheels powered by a batery drill? A delivery lorry heading for one of the city center supermarkets could squash this flat and not even notice they had done it! Great if every other vehicle on the road is one of these as well, but until the work out how to restock Sainsbury's using Tuktuks and transport building materials by skateboard, that isn't going to happen.

Such things are not too difficult to add on via aftermarket supplies. Perfect platform for adding elements of luxury to. Let's face it, if you like good tunes, you want good audio solutions to convert away from dollar store grade audio. There is a market for upgrades, and all vehicle manufacturers should also offer choices in grade of components from the tires on up. I want adjustable suspension and will source it out, better audio, logical insulation so a heater wont have to drain the power, maybe a better grade of steering wheel, seat covering, laser cut 3M exterior protection film because it's better than not having it even if not travelling above the slow speed of the transaxle. Oh, even those transaxles can be upgraded should someone want it to go faster, but faster does mean more running costs, insurance for example.

7:10 - PTC = Positive Temperature Coefficient. It is a resistive heater in this electric car. The PTC aspect of it is a technical one: at first the heater will draw a high power. When the heater then heats up, its resistance will rise with temperature (therefore: positive coefficient: higher temperature higher resistance) and it will draw less power. This way, it regulates itself. It is the standard way to do simple air heaters like in a hairdryer. The unmarked switch may be for an accessory like seat heating or rear fog light. The A/C button is photoshopped out on the web site, so it is likely not functional on purpose. Still, you should have looked it up in the owners manual, that all products sold are required to be delivered with.

Without wanting to take away what the Dogood is offering there are currently two Smart ForTwo ED (451's) on Auto Trader for under £6k. Sure you can't do the illegal stuff like skip through bollards but you can do 70mph and have a range of around 70 miles. They are a hoot to drive and perfect for the city.
@liamness
@liamness 10 ай бұрын
I'm not even sure if driving through the bollards is illegal. There's no signage indicating that you can't drive through there, it's just that most cars (even back in the 70s when these bollards were installed) would not be physically able to fit through.
@joe-s5r
@joe-s5r 10 ай бұрын
That Smart ForTwo is ten years old. Apples to oranges. They're £16,420 new, and everyone knows that you take a hit once you drive out of a showroom, especially since its ten-year-old battery would cost another £6k to replace if it's near dead. You could buy another Dogood for that, or replace the battery in your old one since it would be a third of the cost since it's less than a third the capacity at 4.8Kw as opposed to 17.6Kw in the Smart ForTwo. Obviously used cars are better value, and you'd probably be lucky to get £1k for a ten year Dogood if they existed.
@turbokadett
@turbokadett 10 ай бұрын
@@joe-s5rI disagree, both are small city cars for £6k so apples to apples in my book, one vehicle is a fulley fledged car from an established manufacturer, the other is a rebadged Chinese microcar. As for needing a replacement battery please stop talking bollocks, when I was driving a Smart ForTwo ED it was 8 years old and returning better than book range. My current EV is even older (13 years old) and it also returns book range.
@joe-s5r
@joe-s5r 10 ай бұрын
@@turbokadett You can't seem to comprehend that there's a difference between new and used. Those cars were £16,420 new. You'd pay up to £250k for a new Merc Maybach, but you can pick up a ten year old roller for under £39k. The RR badge has more cachée, and there's more legroom for you and your chauffeur. And you will probably be able to pick up a ten year old Doggod in future for £1k. That's heaps cheaper than the latest showroom price of a Smart Fortwo of £22,225. That's over 22 times the price for a smrt since we are allowed to compare today's new price to a ten year old car that's been stunk up by someone else.

I paid £5,995 for my 2014 Fiat Panda 4x4 Antarctica, at the time it only had 32k miles, one owner from new, it was 5 years old but looked mint... What a fun to drive, quirky car, full of Italian style, very economical to run, the grin factor is off the scale and above all it's very capable of performing many different roles. From commuting, shopping, long cross country trips, camping and as a weekend warrior hitting the green lanes with it's very capable 4x4 system. There was even a point during the pandemic where it increased in value to around £7,500. Would I sell it? No way, it's honestly been one of the best cars I've ever owned. Does this EV look tempting? A thriving second hand market for these micro EVs would be a game changer. Imagine them changing hands for say 1 to 3k. For lot of people 50 miles range is more than enough. Urban parking? Special nose in teeny tiny parking bays! Grocery shopping? Get them to deliver!

Yes to small cars! (though not necessarily always this small). I'm in Seattle, so not quite the land of mega pickups everywhere, but I recently went to Lima, Peru for a cousin's wedding. Near the end of the trip, I was in a taxi, and we pulled up beside a Subaru Outback. It looked so big! I asked the taxi driver if he thought that was a big car and he agreed. Was nice to have my perspective reset after years of growing cars. Oh, tangentially, I did see a few electric cars there, they've finally entered the market. A few Hyundai Ioniq electrics, Ionic 5s, a Kona electric, a Yema Auto Mengo, and probably a few other Chinese ones that I didn't recognize. A few of my taxis were BYDs but older ICE models.

As a 2 ton SUV driver (in the country where I need the ground clearance and back problems need a car that's easy to get in to) I fully endorse this type of car. I'd love one for those for little trips down to the village shop. Stick it on a trailer behind the campervan as a holiday run around! There are so many use cases for this type of vehicle. Hopefully we can flip the script on urban fashion and make these things really popular. I have nothing against SUVs but I do have something against people driving them in inappropriate places.

All the shortcuts you were taking around De Beauvoir are perfectly legal, as there's no signage saying no motor vehicles etc. That's one of the main differences between the 70s era traffic filters and the more modern "Low Traffic Neighbourhood" style approach. Councils have been pressured in some cases to use cameras instead of bollards to preserve through access for some types of vehicle (e.g. emergency vehicles, blue badge holders), but bollards are cheaper and quite frankly if someone wants to pass through on a moped or a microcar I don't really see a problem with that!

I wanna see shows demonstrating a complete tear down and reassembly, and that will take care of concerns about how to upgrade anything about such a vehicle. There's alot of ways to mod these, people wanna know how to, or be of no mystery of the process of ownership and repairs. All manufacturers should include a parts list including prices of each part, a list of factory options including prices of each of those too. I think Micro Cars are great for Cities, though I am wondering if this is really only usefull for single people. If you are a couple, or especially kids that you need to bring to places, the space available is quite limited. Since you often need passanger space and cargo space. So, if you need a full sized car, having a microcar would have to be your 2nd car. Then the question becomes, is it really more usefull then just taking public transit? I would love to see someone who lives in a city, compare using a micro car vs public transit for a month. Ideally over a year, to compare seasons and different weather. I am still thinking its a just a gimick.

So much to like about this. A properly covered cabin, good windscreens and a properly economical price. I hope that the thing does not grow a whole lot of additional and un-necessary extras. Bare bones and economical is what is needed by so many people. I do wonder if instead of ULEZ the traffic controls in cities ought to have a charge for any vehicle weighing more than say 1,200 kg, and a multiplier for widths over 1.5 metres and length over 3.5, EV or not. ICE cars and light commercials are going to disappear in time, simply because they will become worn out, and too expensive to run for fuel and servicing. There is an element that refuses to see the opportunities in change, there is an awful lot of doom mongering about EVs. But smaller EVs must be one of the real counter arguments to this. I suppose the Microline will be the posh sub-mini EV and this will be an example of economy EV personal transport. Please don't call me cheap, but even as I adore the [for me aspirational] Microlino, sense would kick in and I'd definitely consider one of these at retirement in four and half years time. I just got a ‘14 VW e-UP with 30k miles for 7k. 4 seats, can do 80mph, has a range of about 95 miles on a good day, if I’m hypermiling it. Sure, not as small as this thing, but more comfortable and practical.

That is so cute…I would like a version that did 40/50 mph and 100 mile range but if you never leave the city it’s great fun!

The question is Jack, are you going to give up your Polestar 2 and get one of these instead? 😉

Yeah, he's not wrong but it does amuse me he owns, in London, exactly the kind of car he says should be banned in London :D

@@YesterzineBig difference between London and London I feel. I think cars should be banned outright in the city center, but still own a car.

In the last video where they raced across London, he mentioned that most of the team are in Bristol, so it’d be great to see this vs his Polestar to Bristol. It would probably take a solid day as it would have to stick to A-roads! 😂

@@StillLivingInChaos At a nominal 50 miles of range (probably closer to 40-45 on that sort of trip, it'd probably have to stop to charge 2-3 times too (maybe more, depending on how circuitous the route is to avoid the high-speed roads that it's not permitted on)... but then, it's not designed for leaving its home city really :D

It really is “White goods”. Add handle on the back and it could be mistaken for a kettle, because it wouldn’t look out of place in my kitchen… (Lol) Get the kettle on, it’s time for a cup of tea. Cheers!

my escooter is has 10kw motor with 3.2Kwh battery, this has a bit more battery (4kwh) but why did they limit it to 2kw motor. I don't mind the top speed but with this power it will struggle to hit 45kmh top speed
