I’ve been hiding something for a VERY long time. Today I’m facing one of my biggest fears. I’m sharing with you my story on a topic I’ve only been brave enough to tell a few people.
But instead of focusing on what judgement I may receive, I am focusing on the few people who also struggle with this condition, or know someone who does. You are not alone.
Trichotillomania is a condition where people pull out their own hair. It could be on their head, eyelashes, or eyebrows. Other forms include picking at your skin, fidgeting in a harmful way, or biting your skin. The way I struggle with it is I pull my hair out on my head, and this is my entire story about it.
If you think your child, family member, or friend might have this condition, remember this topic is so sensitive, and research should be done before the conversation starts. Sharing this video might also help them see that they can live a happy life even with this mental illness.
We feel like freaks in this society, and that stigma has to go away. Hair is such a prized possession for so many women, but for us it’s pressure. Pressure to fit in, look beautiful, and just be normal. If we could stop we would, but it’s not that easy.
I hope you can find something to take away from this video. Maybe you didn’t know this condition existed, maybe you know someone who does this, or maybe you struggle yourself… Whatever it may be, please let me know. I’d love to hear from you.
Thank you for taking the time to watch this! I still can’t believe I’m doing this. But here we go! My biggest secret - REVEALED!
