I have to admit that I find it very disappointing that most people seem to be solely fixated on the price of the house in these comments. It was an expensive build compared to the DIY projects we have followed, and the reasons for this were addressed in the video. People need to take into consideration that this was the very first tiny house to ever begin construction in New Zealand. It’s cost (NZ$80k) works out to be roughly US$67,000 - this is only 10k more than if you were ordering this house directly from Tumbleweed in the states, a streamlined operation which has access to cheaper trailers, building materials and bulk buying capabilities. It’s a shame that people can’t see past the negative and focus instead on the fact that Connie has constructed a wonderful tiny house that has exceptional craftsmanship, and also that it sits in a wonderful eco-community, demonstrating permaculture principles in practice.
@JenniferSmith-ul1bs10 жыл бұрын
I think people are so quick to jump on the negatives because it's easy. they are constantly looking for a way to make something "not ok" when it's not part of the normal so the price is the only thing they can fixate on. keep on and don't let them get to you. there are so many that are hooked on this movement and these types of video's they are taking ideas away from them to build their own :) the view of 16,000+ should tell you its popular! the tiny houses will move forward and adapt to price and change as the demand becomes more popular and ideas come out of the woodwork

This build quality does not compare to most of the work done on other tiny houses. This looks like it is built like a grand piano. When she closes the pocket door to the kitchen, look at the reveals (gaps.) They are perfect. The uniform quality of the wood grain and it's fit is top notch. I was looking at the molding where the walls meet the ceiling. It is outstanding craftsmanship. The nailing of the siding on the exterior looks like every nail position was measured for exactness. I live in the US where now most of the building trades have been overtaken by illegals who have little or no pride in their work. This tiny home is unique and beautiful in a way that most people can not see or appreciate. Extraordinary.
@MrMeanderthal10 жыл бұрын
Rick Nygren it is the American people who are responsible for the illegals working in the trades.. I am Canadian and we don't have Mexicans but we have East Indians who are involved in the building trades.. I call them Crapsmen because that's what they build... crap.. I don't hire East Indians to do anything but lots of us do because the initial price is cheap... when it falls apart I blame the owner, not the crapsman...

***** sounds like you are pretty ignorant about building and building materials.... not sure it's even worth my time to reply to your environmental wacko comment.. there's a video on here of a company I worked for called Richmond Yachts.. have a look and see if you think what I build is crap.. here's a partial link /watch?v=8VQDQE6e2F0

A lot of the shock is people not realising the difference in costs between the US and NZ, or the concept that dollars in one country, might be different to dollars in another.... Our minimum wage is nearly twice that of the US. And as you said, raw materials cost so much more in NZ. Just taking those items into account make it actually a fairly cost effective build. But don't expect the average youtuber to math. [deliberate]

What I absolutely love about Bryce is his ability to articulate, in a very cogent and succinct way, the deep thinking that goes into even the most simple elements (eg. storage philosophy, gable v. open lofts). That make this channel my favorite. The fact he is also so positive and genuinely interested in the people he is visiting, makes this my favorite tiny house/living channel. Thank you Bryce.

I did not have a Utube account when you started this 9 yrs ago & so l am enjoying these old gems!👍🏻😄 There are two things in particular l have noticed in these old ones, as in newer ones, is how incredibly respectful you are, always removing your shoes, which I do in my own apartment & any other home l visit. And how you always find the nicest elements and make the loveliest comments during your visits. You make *every* home owner feel as if theirs is the most special little home ever. That is a remarkable gift to share with others! And every person who attempts this really does deserve a pat on the back, l truly admire such brave & gutsy people! Especially those who have chosen to do it on the road. I am too old & chicken now, lol!😉 This wee nest is truly beautiful; immaculate, lots of brightness, & gorgeous finishes. 👍🏻😄🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦

@jazherahmacmornna86704 жыл бұрын
Lisa T Totally agree with you. There are a few tiny homes with no lofts or stairs. And not having a loft can make them feel more spacious if combined with a hideaway bed.

There are places funded by the government ( in the US) that permit elderly people, or disabled, veterans,etc to live in very small houses. My uncle who is a veteran got one of these mini houses and payed VERY MINIMUM rent. They are BEAUTIFUL accomodation. I don't know were you are from but if your from the US -Ny state I might be able to give you some information.
@hi2bonnie10 жыл бұрын
This is the first time I've heard someone with a loft give a great answer to the question, "What will you do when you get old and you can't get up and down the ladder?" She says that she WILL get up and down because she's doing it every day. It drives me crazy how people assume that we will be infirm and unable to move when we get old. WRONG!
@writerforlifeify10 жыл бұрын
I agree with you but unfortunately a lot of older people buy into that infirmity myth LONG before they even retire; it thus becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. The body catches up with, and reflects, the content of the mind. I have forever had but a single age, expressed in one word: YOUNG. And my health reflects that.
@dianerota9 жыл бұрын
A one-story building with an appropriate floor plan for a daybed or sofa bed may be less expensive and more convenient in the long run.

Bonnie L Amen to that! I never thought that at 71 I’d have arthritis so bad I would need 2total shoulder replacements and never again be able to climb a ladder or lift a dish above shoulder level. Getting old brings surprises, and I have friends who have dizzy spells. Ladder climbing is not for us old folks, if only for safety.

Marci Boecking IKR? He seems such a beautiful person, even on the inside. I'll admit it was his looks that drew me in to his channel, but now I'm truly sucked into the lifestyle and how Bryce always gives us insights into each personality, the challenges and the motivations behind every tiny house. I feel bad for him sometimes, reading some of the more unrestrained, bordering on rude references to his (undeniable) physical charms, which overshadow the passion and sincerity he pours into this wonderful project, which we get to enjoy and learn from, for free!

I love that the ladder was built to store in the door!!! By far the smartest ladder solution I have seen so far. I am always watching videos to get ideas for when I can build my tiny house someday and if I can't get a staircase to work- this is what I will do with my ladder. LOVE it!! Also bookmarking the dome in the top of the shower. That is so smart because you don't want all that moisture making mildew problems in a tiny house. I am so happy that EarthSong is opening people's minds to legal eco living. I hope it is successful and someday we can have a flourishing community of eco resorts around the US as well. It would be fantastic to be able to see the country by moving around from one eco resort to another. Good luck!!

This tiny home is such a little jewel! My reasons for wanting a tiny house aren't just about lowering rental costs, but about getting to choose the quality I want in windows, appliances, heating options, walls, countertops, flooring, materials, furniture adaptations, and space usability. She did mentioned that part of the larger expense came from a contractor that wasn't up to snuff. I have encountered this sort of thing when I take my car in for servicing, hire a plumber or electrician, or need something built. Some guys see a woman as an opportunity to make more money, which is a pity since if they are really good at their jobs, their work will speak for itself and pay dividends in return business and new customers. Connie's road was a little bumpier than some, but she got there just the same. Way to go!

This really is a lovely small micro house and very well finished. Things do cost more down here in NZ and its harder to even find stuff to use. We dont have the massive bulk purchasing warehouses that the Americans have access to so yes a build down here will cost more. If you can't do it yourself then you have no choice but to pay labour to get one. Just a trailer alone to buy here is about twice the price that you Americans can get one at. Thats the going cost down here, you do what you can and at least Connie has done it instead of wishing it to happen.

Bryce you have a beautiful spirit about you I just love watching your videos inspires my day
@jobenmenachem22697 жыл бұрын
I think this tiny house gives its owner the goal of owning a property one day in the future - something that is impossible in current NZ under similar prices. Fiting the house to the specific needs of the owner also cost money, but this can solve problems and further expenses in the future. Other readers have to take into account that living in your own house saves rental costs and those should also be deducted from the price as living on rent is not an investment as paying for a mortgage. I think this woman has taken the correct decision regardless the relatively high cost of the house, because this was her own and only route to future finacial independence. Being one of the first "not so young" woman who decided to join the tiny home movement, she deserves lots of support rather than criticism! At the end of the day she does live in a wonderful house in a wonderful area and this does matter as well !

I don't think that I'd ever live in a house this small, but I watch these videos for the wonderful ideas shown. Like the fold away table. In a small house--say 700 square feet--what a great idea for a quick way to add a table for a party. You could actually paint the top and turn it into artwork. I also love the upper shelves she has....terrific for more storage or display room. As are pocket doors or sliding doors and I love shallow storage shelves in the kitchen. I hate digging around in a cupboard trying to find something in the back. Lovely little house!

Well said Bryce!! Thanks Connie for letting us see into your private space. Another advantage of being in a communal living area is the safety/security aspect. Connie must feel safe being a more senior lady. Its a shame the shire had that attitude to the grey water hopefully now time has moved on they have revised their way of thinking. After all what s the point in having allowing an Eco site only to insist they follow non eco practices. But being the first Tiny House there everyone had a lot to learn. Thanks Bryce and to your lovely lady cheers from Western Australia.🥰🤗 Hi its now 2024 and I'm just revisiting this cute Tiny home.. lovely to see your smiley face Rasa, I didn't say that previously... Dear Connie, first of all the biggest thing is that whatever you've created for yourself you've created ON YOUR OWN... So nothing could be more Perfect than this... Since there are more than 7 Billion people in this world so obviously there will be 7 Billion different views, analysis and perspectives to see your home, which you created with your own efforts and own courage... Please remember that at the end of the day IT'S YOUR HOME.... and no matter who's having what in this world, even a palace but "Your Home Is Your Home" no matter how huge or how tiny it is... AND BELIEVE ME THERE'S NOTHING MORE BEAUTIFUL IN THIS WORLD THAN WHICH BELONGS TO YOU... As far as making it more adaptable and functional to your own personal needs, is concerned, you can always go for required changes with due course of time... No matter what you've gone through but at the end of the day IT'S YOUR CREATION WHICH BELONGS TO YOU AND IS GOING TO SERVE YOU, JUST TAKE PRIDE IN IT AND HAVE GRATITUDE THAT YOU'RE ABLE TO CREATE SOMETHING SO BEAUTIFUL FOR YOURSELF AND ON YOUR OWN... someday you'll be free from debt too so please don't worry... WITH ALL THOSE BEAUTIFUL WINDOWS JUST ENJOY THE SUNLIGHT, THE RAIN AND ALL THOSE BEAUTIFUL STARS AT NIGHT.... I ABSOLUTELY FELL IN LOVE WITH THE BIG GLASS WHICH BECAME THE SOURCE OF SUNLIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR ROOM, IMAGINE HOW SPECTACULAR WILL IT BE WATCHING STARS AT NIGHT FROM IT... SO PLEASE START COUNTING YOUR BLESSINGS AGAINST WHAT APPEARS TO BE A LOSS FOR YOU.... LOTS OF LOVE... GOD BLESS YOU DEAR❤️💛🙏

I love the storage! The fold out table, little chair/storage and the slide out piece in the kitchen were exactly what I was thinking about when I started thinking about a tiny home for myself. I would've used the kitchen piece to put things like a coffee pot and little toaster. The only different thing I would do is have a real staircase (I'm not "old" but knee surgery did me in) and I'd put a tiny reading nook under that staircase. Also, I've seen stairs themselves used for little drawers..that would be cool. I also think way up top in the bathroom I'd have a little shelf for toiletries.

How can an ecovillage NOT use gray water? It's a contradiction of basic premise. Connie Kristensen's house is lovely, as she is.

+Tammy Delbruegge ... yes, I would first want a logical explanation of their views on Grey Water before I would consider living there.

I agree with your point on gray water.

Yes, it seems like a waste to throw away gray water, but it was cool to see how she didn't make a big deal about it.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who noticed how Bryce evolved since 2014. In here you see he's laying on the bed, holding a broom, keeps saying ''so'' before each sentence..of course I'm not saying this in a negative way AT ALL. I'm only observing as I watch this video. I do think he's adorable since day one, and I can tell he's been improving, just like anyone would.

Great videos! Sad to hear the government there is similar to U.S. But the problem is the solution; and maybe with some guidance, they can be shown how to have effective, productive gray water solutions, perhaps set new standards going forward. Lovely, lovely place!

Yup! I think that it's only a matter of time before these systems change, as our way of life becomes ever more unsustainable. I can understand in many ways why the council is reluctant to allow these grey water systems etc, as it requires trust of the individuals to manage it well, but there will come a time when it only makes sense to manage these on local levels and we as people must take more responsibility for our environmental footprint. Thanks for watching!
