Living Big In A Tiny House

Living Big In A Tiny House

Күн бұрын

We are excited to once again partner with Airbnb to bring you the tour of this stunning Airbnb House Bus! If you think you might be interested in becoming an Airbnb host yourself, you can find out more here: airbnb.vaz6fn.net/LivingBig2 (Disclosure: We earn a small commission when people we refer start hosting on Airbnb.)
In this weeks episode we meet an inspiring couple who purchased a stunning property by the beach with panoramic ocean views and turned an old house bus into both an amazing family home and a dream Airbnb get-away.
The family lives in the house bus during the winter months, and then rent it out during the summer on Airbnb to help generate some additional income. In the future, the family plan to build an additional small home on the property so the house bus can become a full-time Airbnb.
This house bus has been lovingly renovated by Greig and Rachel, who have transformed it into both a wonderful home for their young family, and a spectacular retreat space for guests over the summer. If you love the idea of creating a dream lifestyle home with income by the beach, this is a video you have to see!
We hope you enjoy the video tour of this very special tiny home.

I love how they gave the children each bed space. No sacrifice in terms of having each own space. You may live in a small space, but that doesn’t need you have to sacrifice your own space. Very well though out. Amazing parents. Coz its really rare to see tint house in where kids have their own spacious room.

They're kids. It's far healthier to be together as children and look towards separate space in mid teens. It's mean to rob kids of their childhood, they only get 18 or 21 yrs (depends on country) to be kids then for 60+ yrs they're adults. No way I'd change my kids or grkids years of discovery and adventure . Sharing and Interacting are such important factors in forming a firm foundation to adult life; where there's a lifetime to seek solitude and personal space, plus all those wonderful attributes, character, responsibilities, etc etc

@@heatherclayton-callaghan4270 I respect your views on that. However some of us, prefer to let the kids explore their individuality even on younger age. It makes them more firm as a person, knowing the difference between what they can do alone and not.

@@heatherclayton-callaghan4270 I shared a room with my sister throughout my childhood and teen age and it was horrible. My sister had different needs than me (she was afraid of the dark, for example, while I can't sleep well if there's light in the room) and this caused many quarrels and heartaches between us. Your comment is ironic to me, because it was precisely having privacy that brought us together in adulthood.

@Isabel T You've totally missed the point, HONEY. Their comment was pointing out the fact that people (anywhere) often have some kind of tiny home life and yadda yadda but the hook is that usually they don't actually own the land that they stay on so are effectively not that much better or worse off than traditional renters. Nobody is dissing the parental aspect etc, though it's interesting that out of seven sentences you managed to ignore about 6 of them and mis-interpret the 7th. Perhaps you just have unresolved education, parental or racial issues. I'll go to painful effort to point out how anyone with basic reading skills can pick that up. Their comment says "OWN" the land they are on (this emphasises that this is the point of interest since it's in Capital letters). Later on there is an interesting use of capitals in "IS" when describing that it is possible to achieve this (again the emphasis on the point that it's actually possible since usually TH owners are on borrowed/donated/rented land). Lastly, you've brought up mocking European and Asian cultures, parental relationships, sustainability and gentrification and so on... I'm really not convinced you actually know what any of those things are or whether you are just throwing words into your comment. Gentrification is like the opposite of Tiny Homes, this is a NEW ZEALAND video, they literally weren't complaining and if you ask your carer nicely they might read you the rest of Randy's comment you might see that they say "Man, I want to do this!" - they are in awe and it's overall a positively angled comment. Do better Isabel.

I must admit I prefer seeing it when the kids have their own space. I saw one once where the parents had their own bedroom but their 11 year old son slept on the sofa. Like your kid is their own person who might like their own space, not a toy you just power down at the end of the day.

I'm sorry to say this but JK Rowling is a fascist who is not shy from publicly befriending Nazi sympathizers. Sure, you can continue to support her but I just cannot do it, thinking of the people whom she affects. There are so many fantasy authors out there who aren't vocally pushing for such political fascist ideologies on their social media.

I can't vbelieve that winter is warm enough to have green grass and be just sweater weather out there. In Alberta it's always cold enough for a toque, winter jackets, gloves, thermal undies and boots, and that type of weather is here for months on end. It makes me contemplate moving somewhere else. The land here is beautiful but the weather in other places is so spectacular. Being able to wear shorts and t shirts year round sounds great. If it's above 0° C than its warm enough for shorts tbh but that's a standard here

Problem in nz is that houses are not insulated and don’t have central heating. I‘m from Germany, not as cold as Canada but still cold and snowy. But I had the coldest winter of my life here in nz. 😂 just because you simply never get warm Inside, even if you have a heater. At least in the 3 houses I’ve lived in. No idea how they can sleep in the tent but I guess they are chilling in the living room with the fire most of the time.

@@lincolnk.1964 Don't even need full-blown tradeschool. It's mostly easily acquired basic knowledge, mostly board sizes and spacing. The rest is meticulous measuring to keep things consistent. Plus, there are tools to help people do things like squaring up and connecting joints. A lot of people just get a shipping container, which does save a bit of effort because most of the *structural* work is already done and usually the seller will offer transport options. Then, build the non-structural inner frame for insulation, interior walls, and to frame up doors and windows, followed by filling in plumbing, electrical, and whatever. You'll have to reinforce any door and window spaces you cut out, but not by a whole lot. If ya want it on a trailer, enclosed trailers already exist. At most on structural, you might have to raise the roof a bit. Just be mindful of how much weight you're adding to it and make sure you seal things up well.

Finally! A tiny home that doesn’t forget about the children. I remember one that appalled me; the parents had a decent sized space, but the children (3 of them) were all bunked up in a space the size of one of those boys’ bedrooms. Their beds also had cutouts for moving between the levels, which made their beds tiny, not fit for the teenagers they’ll one day become. Most tiny houses I look at and think “cute, but not for me.” This one I would actually consider living in. Well done.

Absolutely LOVE the hidden baths making double use of the deck area AND the winch-up polycarb wind-shields/walls - both brilliant ideas. I've been thinking about how best to do walls around a deck area to stop wind/rain/leaves getting in and deteriorating the decking but didn't like the idea of being enclosed by "ugly" polycarbonate all the time. However that's the PERFECT solution IMO. Totally stealing that. Wind/rain/leaf protection when you need it or when you're not there, and open to the air when you want it when you are there. Perfect. Thanks Greig and Rachel for the fantastic ideas :-) Might see if I can expand on the general concept to make even better use of the walls, but not sure if that would work. Thanks Rasa and Bryce for sharing this.

It is wood/natural timber ffs ... rich warm tones with enough light walls not to feel oppressive ... I love it.

Okay. I LOVE how their kids actually have space. I know some people love lofts, but I love how in 99% of their house, you can actually stand.
