As someone that lived there about 25 yrs ago, June-Aug were hot as Hades but you had the town to yourself. No students-= no lines

You left out the Pro of UNC Hospitals - world class teaching and research medical center. People come from all over the States and the world for treatment. Also the Botanical gardens and Planetarium should be on your Pro list. Finally, CH and Carrboro have their own independent school system supported by local taxes!

I am a Californian thinking of moving to the area, but like the locals seem to keep complaining about Californians brining their politics with them and trying to make NC into CA. Now to paraphrase a former VP candidate I can see Google from my front porch, I have lived here long enough to see CA go from an open minded crazy fun place to BSI. My biggest fear listening to the companies and things going on there is that I move and it becomes CA lite. Is there anywhere in the area more insulated? Because I am one Californian who wants to leave it all behind and my biggest hang up is moving from the fire into the frying pan.

It sounds like you’d have loved Chapel Hill & especially Carrboro a couple of decades ago. I grew up here and it was an awesome place. College Sports and Professional Hockey in Raleigh, the Panthers Basketball in Charlotte are exciting for fans inclined towards Sports. Practically all the old Businesses and their buildings are gone. There are many multiple floor Apartments and Medical Buildings towering the landscape now. Due to Covid lots of Homeless people that the County is desperately trying to help but there is not enough low income housing. Coming from CA the astronomical cost of living may not be as surprising as it is to the locals. This area has always been a major melting pot due to UNC, Duke and NC State Universities. Not to mention RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, which is a smaller version of Silicon Valley and exploding! There is plenty of entertainment. Orange County, NC has a Granola vibe. This makes it a great place to live. The schools are excellent in Carrboro & Chapel Hill! I have a Brother that lives in Manhattan Beach, CA and he loves coming back home. to visit but wouldn’t move back. If you could come here and rent for 6 to 12 months that would ideal. It would be expensive which I know for most people make that impossible. The majority of people are welcoming and have that “Southern hospitality”. This is a very Liberal area. We also still have the “Good OL Boys/Red Necks 😮 yes it’s true. Good Luck with your decision!
