I would say your traffick is actually really bad for thr city size. I lived in OC and Sacramento before, both had equivalent traffic at rush hour with alot more people. Your highway system is a joke

You need to check out Harry’s Guitar Shop (no longer downtown, but in biz for decades). To entice the music community-which used to be large, and is now growing again. Support local!

I've lived in a small town way outside Raleigh for over 18 years and have commuted to the Triangle. It is completely different now. My small town's population has grown tremendously but the towns population in between have exploded and the roads haven't kept up. Needless to say my commute gets worse daily. Not just the volume but the attitude of the the drivers is becoming more like the northeast. I still love the area but many of the problems I moved away from have now unfortunately followed us here.

In flowers plantation now. Raised military base east of Raleigh. Went to Peace and UNC chapel hill , RN. Lived north Raleigh by Crabtree, apex, holly springs, wake forest, garner, that big Heritage neighborhood on golf course, lived in carboro when at UNC in college. We are getting out of here. Was looking Jordan lake area. Chatham and Moore counties, want land, farm, hard to get that here. Johnston county used to be lots cheaper but, lol, just another suburb of Raleigh

It's not just Raleigh it's everywhere! I moved here in 2009 to Smithfield (30ish miles E of Raleigh). I had sticker shock! I made better money in KY, but rent was cheaper in IN. My pay dropped $500 a week in pay. I moved to Jacksonville, where rent was closer to IN prices in rent, but it got condemned, and 900 families lost their home! My apartment complex wasn't the only complex condemned that day, and the city says there is no housing problem. In 8 years, it went from hardly seeing homeless to seeing them hanging out by my old apartment complex and other areas. The city must keep their eyes closed when they drive through town! I have to drive 200 miles 1 way to UNC Chapel Hill from once a week to once every 3 months. Depending on what my grandson's needs are with seeing his doctors. He's the only patient at UNC with his heart condition and the 2nd one his cardiologist has treated. So no, I can't just take him local. It doesn't work like that( most doctors haven't heard of it) and rent there is absolutely out of this world! Love this state, it's beautiful. I have never felt more at home with no one I know.

The main way to differentiate the two main parts of Cary are the MacGregor side of town and the Preston side of town. The MacGregor side has easy access to RALEIGH, most of the major medical facilities including the hospital, more native Southerners, the new downtown area, much less property crime, but the houses and shops are maybe not as new and shiny as the Preston side. The Preston side has easy access to RTP & DURHAM (but a large percentage of Preston folks who need to get to Raleigh daily have to cut through the MacGregor side), more Northern transplants, more property crime, generally shinier buildings than the MacGregor side, but smaller lots and less natural trees that have been around for a century or more. Take your pick, but as a native Southerner, the choice is obvious. This video shows the MacGregor side as "south Cary" and "central Cary". Watch the video focusing on the TREES on each side of town (or lack thereof). The older homes on the MacGregor side have MUCH bigger lots and most are renovated and beautiful on the inside.

A lot of Ppl are mean as hell in Raleigh. Many are pretentious and a few are genuinely kind. I guess that’s everywhere. Ppl in top of you, that’s how I got Covid, a man right behind me coughed hard and didn’t cover his mouth. I had it right before that announced it. Men are the rudest drivers in Raleigh too.

Did I miss the part about the 7 months of 90 plus degrees, and the 98% humidity, then the lovely winter months of rain, hail storms. And you Northerns who think you can drive in the snow lol, most towns have hardly any snow removal equipment, And forget every getting an egg sandwich on a roll or a good bagel. But NC is still better than NY. PS. former LIer here. Good luck

We’re leaving Wake County/Fuquay Varina; building and moving in April. Some reasons are cost of living and higher taxes along with traffic. Lack of quality restaurants, lack of quality shopping and road congestion; lack of infrastructure planning. If they want to move here, they need to adapt to our culture. Most are not, they’re bringing their culture. We have a realtor in both places.

The people from the north east coast are like a plague of locust wherever they descend. You’re getting hit from both directions. They’re coming directly there and they’re bouncing back from Florida. And the funniest part, actually saddest part, is they honestly think you’re lucky to have them move in. They really believe things will be better because they’re there. You know because Jersey Philly, New York are all such great areas filled with considerate people.
