Hi Yaakov Langer here. Here is a glimpse into my good friends, Lavi & Nechama Greenspan's wedding.
Have any questions about Jewish weddings?
LEAVE A COMMENT and we'll reply.
Here's a break down of what goes on:
If you've been invited to an Orthodox Jewish wedding and are unfamiliar with the ceremony, it's important to understand the traditions involved. Hopefully this video gives you insight into it. Orthodox Jewish weddings follow the Torah strictly and have customs that differ from Christian and other Jewish weddings (reform, conservative).
During the Tish, the groom, groomsmen, and male family members gather in a room for prayers and songs before the ceremony.
At the Tena'im, the terms of the wedding are agreed upon and the wedding contract is signed.
The Bedeken involves the groom veiling the bride, symbolizing her inner and outer beauty.
The wedding ceremony takes place under a chuppah, an arch symbolizing the couple's union. The bride walks around the groom seven times, the groom gives her a simple wedding band, and seven blessings are recited. The groom then breaks a glass.
Mazel Tov! They're officially married.
After the ceremony, the bride and groom are alone for the first time as a married couple, witnessed by two people according to Jewish law. The reception follows as a time for guests to celebrate with the couple.
Other important points to note at an Orthodox Jewish wedding include: conservative dress code, separate seating and dancing for men and women, and weddings taking place on Sundays thru Thursdays.
Mazel tov to Lavi & Nechama Greenspan! They should have many years of health, wealth, happiness and a beautiful family.

As a Muslim, when I watched this video I realized that all of us are the same, I noticed that somehow we have the same traditions despite the different religions and all the conflict but fact is we are all humans and we all have the same thinking. Big thumbs up to this video and thanks 👌👍.

I just watched your previous interview with the groom - this was not a typical Jewish wedding - the groom is visually impaired - having went through many surgeries - that info really adds a level of significance and appreciation to just how wonderful this simcha is!

So excited to see this. I was privileged to spend a few special days with Lavi, helping escort him around, while I lived in Jerusalem. He was constantly talking about Hashem, and so full of emunah (faith). I really was inspired by him, and how he was truly living with Hashem. I remember davening for him to find his soulmate, and him going to the kotel (western wall) to daven... so many years of prayers poured into the culmination of this moment. I'm so happy that my wife shared this video with me!

Thank you so very much for your kindness in sharing your culture and traditions with us. I was especially touched (to the point of tears) by the support that the groom received. I was so surprized to learn of the many rabbis who attended the wedding. The bride must have felt so very blessed. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, it would be wonderful to see other kinds of celebrations, too. Thank you again and G-d bless you.

Technically, yes, it's okay, but practically you can't start doing any kind of preparation until the Sabbath is over, which would be logistically extremely difficult and lead to an extremely late wedding.

There are a few reasons why the saxophone is such a ubiquitous instrument in Jewish weddings. In many regards, it has replaced the clarinet due to its cutting sound. Yet, it is also an extremely expressive instrument. It has similar fingering to the clarinet and the flute, making the transition between those 3 instruments very easy. This trend began in the sixties with younger bands, such as Mark 3 (Jordan Penkower IIRC). A very special shout out to Shloime Dachs, Yisroel Meir Shonek, and one of my favorite sax players, Mark Feinberg!

Thank you so much for sharing this lovely event with us. I liked it and hope ones to be invited. I didn’t expect almost all the guests wearing black or very dark clothes. Sadly this remindet me to funerals in Europe. Is their a special reason for the black clothing? And… what do you wear on funerals?? I am Hindu, but live in a catholic area, so I am used to their traditions. Although not inspired by their religion.

Ma sha’ ALLAH (Baruch HaShem Eloh’im) - this resembles a lot like a Traditional Muslim Wedding - Mazel Tov (Mabruk) ❤🎉 Jewish ketubah (Marriage Contract) = Muslim Khetbah (exactly same our Imam also recites prayer and read out the marriage contract) Jewish maarib (Sunset Prayer) = Muslim Maghreb Prayer (we also do stop everything right at the time of prayer 😊) Food also looks similar and delicious 😊 except we don’t serve any alcohol beverages, it’s considered non-kosher (Haram) in our faith.
