This works too. The way I do it is like 1 bar spoon of Demarara simple syrup, Orange Peel, 2.5oz Bourbon, 2 dashes bitters. Add all the ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice, stir, strain onto a rocks glass with fresh ice. Garnish with orange peel.
@NortonNice7 жыл бұрын
Gotta love the "spirited debate" going on in these comments. The Old Fashioned is not rocket science, and arguing over minutiae is pointless when dealing with organic products. Whiskeys vary from batch to batch, so does sugar, and citrus, and bitters. You have to know how to build and balance a drink with the ingredients that you have on hand. In my opinion, the two main things that make my fave OF are using a good rye (not bourbon) and stirring and straining over ice. Other than that, just try to enjoy this basic cocktail. If you can't find joy in sipping an OF without resorting to petty insults over the minor details, you should step up to something a little stiffer, like a nice calming opioid.

My method: Add some orange zest to the bottom of a glass (I like to use a potato peeler to zest the orange). Muddle the orange zest a bit. Then add a sugar cube and saturate with bitters. Add a splash of water and muddle again. This gets everything in solution. Then add a LUXARDO maraschino cherry to the glass and a little of the syrup that the cherries soak in. Then add ice to the glass. Finally, add 1.5-2 oz bourbon. Stir. Enjoy!

I found that extra splash of cherry juice is definitely popular with more of my female bar patrons cuz it adds more sweetness. I like how you say people like different amounts of bitters because the truth is everyone does have different palates and I have a hard time drinking whiskey so I like it more sweet. :) And its def a drink for everyone not just old timers :) GREAT VID!

+Steven Davis Many bartenders say that using "hard sugar" will result in a different texture in the finsished drink,so thats why some use simple syrup and some dont. A preference thing i think.
@JakeyFlake8 жыл бұрын
+Steven Davis Sugar is better and a true Old Fashioned should have demerara sugar, pre dissolving a 50/50 mix of sugar and water (add boiling water to sugar, shake and put in fridge for best results) is perfectly fine tho.
@insertrendomnamehere8 жыл бұрын
+Steven Davis I think bartenders just want to be able to control how much sugar is dissolved into the drink. Simple syrup is definitely convenient, and gets the job done, but sometimes you just want that bit of extra control over the drink

@ECP905 жыл бұрын
Cause it wouldn’t be an old fashioned. I mean I guess it would be. I think it’s about building he drink that also makes it an old fashioned. Muddling the sugar is part of its process. it’s about the whole “old fashioned” vibe of the drink too I think. Some say it gives a mouth feel and texture to the drink. But then some just strain it. So in the case of those who strain simple syrup might be better.
