Yes! Many of Beethoven's markings have confused me! Perhaps a future episode can discuss how much you really have to follow the pedal markings of composers, especially if they were around hundreds of years ago with very different pianos?

I know nothing about music, am tone deaf and I came here bc of a meme "how to read sheet music" video. I love your energy though and I wish I had the time ir patience to learn piano bc you seem like a great teacher :)

So... and SF should be...? You don't explain that or even show an example.

Awesome. I'm trying to understand Chopin's Fantaisie Impromptu. It was difficult for me to keep track of the term and its meaning while he was talking, but I feel this is a quality explanation. It would help me if when saying a term, its spelling and symbol were to pop up on screen somewhere.

Excellent explanation... wow. Now for those of us over 55, please someday explain how a "forte" (someone's special talent or the strong part of a sword) as fort, and leave the musical term pronunciation alone when speaking of human skill sets rather than musical tone notations. :) I'm told that now "for-tay" is allowed and tolerated whereas when I was young I was taught the distinction which now, like many such things, has been dumbed down. Love your vids.

Not sure I quite understand your question, but maybe this wiil help. “Forte” is simply the Italian word for “strong”, when used as an adjective. In music it means loud. It is also an Italian noun which means “strength.” So, a person’s “forte” is his, or her strength. In both cases, the word is pronounced the same, with the stress on the first syllable. It is commonly mis-pronounced by English speakers as for-TAY.

@@man0sticks Are you sure it can be used as a noun as well? I'm Italian and I've never heard speaking about someone's "forte". Strength is usually translated as "forza".

What a pity you chose a french horn over the more beautiful Euphonium. ☹️
