do we know historically what the piano used by Władysław Szpilman in the true story of the movie the Pianist?

Sviatoslav Richter makes all the names you mentioned look like a bunch of mushrooms huddling under a giant oak tree. Your musical vacuity is stunning.

I got number 1 as Steinway. I have Steinway Model A. So picking Steinway was not a problem. But that Chinese was impressive, I would say.

Since you mentioned that the piano could be an issue in trouble playing softly, could you do a video talking about how to tell if one's piano is well-regulated? Well-regulated is a term much mentioned but little explained in detail

I love the fullness of the Steinway but I dislike the 'overtones' in the bass section. (It's why I wound up swapping the mapes bass wires out for Hellerbass) The Baldwin SD6 and Steinway are both close not as full as the Steinway but a nice brighter sound with a fat tone. and the bass notes don't have too much 'overtones'!

The Steinway sounded slightly out of tune (just a couple of notes). The Baldwin (maybe closer to the mic?) sounds louded to me. I would say those factors impact.

Both pianos were recorded with exactly the same microphone setup.

I don't imagine you remember me commenting on your videos, years ago, how much I loved seeing you play your signature theme, when you switched to using standard pre-recorded intros... but if you do, maybe you can understand how much I appreciate this Christmas gift, even though I stopped celebrating Christmas years ago. Merry Christmas, to you and yours! 😻

Beautiful piano! Playing pieces like that Chopin Nocturne at night by candle light with the candle light sticks must add a whole new dimension to the experience of hearing the live performance. That gold inlay probably shimmers enhancing the experience of the music. Robert, I’d love to see you play this piano by candle light!

I was wondering: if you don't look at the keyboard but have your eyes closed or you are looking at the score, do you imagine the keyboard in your head? And if so, how clear can you see it? I have great difficulty doing this. Then I started looking at chords on the keyboard, pressing down all the keys in a chord at once spanning 2 octaves. This improved the ability to visualize the keyboard a lot, and improved my sight reading.

Nice instrument. Clever place to put a music rack. And the intersting candle stand on both sides at a time before people use electric light. The ivory keys all intact with no chips. Probably not played very much in the past. The other day came across a unique Steinway grand "the Egyptian" (probably from 1924) in a piano store. The color is dark oak. In the middle was the logo "STEINWAY & SONS NEW YORK" in gold with a rectangle around it. On both sides of the logo is a small Sphinx. On the corners and the cover were Egyptian looking designs to decorate the piano. Designs hand painted by the American artist A Blackmore including the Temple of Karnak.
