The Bosendorfer Imperial Grand piano is regarded as the preeminent piano in the world with a new price approaching $200,000. Hand made in Austria, the piano has an incredible sound throughout. It also features 97 keys and goes down to C below the usual low A on an ordinary piano. Pianists from Franz Liszt to Oscar Peterson have chosen Bösendorfer as their instrument. This piano is in immaculate condition inside and out. It is regulated and voiced to the highest possible level. The instrument was in a home and not played a great deal. Everything is original including the perfect, real key tops. If you are looking for the ultimate piano, this is it.

I worked for the local Bosendorfer dealer for one summer after college, and played one of these EVERY DAY. After that, every other piano, even Steinway, felt like toys for a while. The action is so smooth and responsive, it will ruin you for all other pianos.
@craigdylan3953
@craigdylan3953 2 жыл бұрын
Yet Horowitz would ship his Steinway everywhere, and play a Bosendofer if he had to almost never !! Go figure. I guess it depends on the artist and Horowitz was probably the greatest 'modern' day classical pianist to touch the keys: that is in the opinion of the other second best group of pianists. So is Steinway better than Bosendofer? . Is Martin custom better than a Gibson? But most people never ever get to touch, hear, or play a Bosendofer: you are only lucky guy. IMHO

I had the good fortune to work in a piano store many years ago that had a 225. I played that beautiful instrument every day as well. A competitor had the Steinway concert grand which I also checked out. In my opinion, the Bosendorfer was the better piano.

I once had the privilege of playing a Bösendorfer imperial grand. Do I believe this one of the greatest pianos ever made: YES. If I owned a theatre or concert hall would I purchase one: YES. The key action, the tone, and the resonance of a Bösendorfer cannot be matched by any piano I have ever had the opportunity to play. I, however, am poor and I am thankful that I even have a piano (a 40 year-old-Kimball).

@@warrengwonka2479 I've performed on both those instruments at Mayo and both are sadly a little neglected. The Steinway B in the Lipps Atrium was pretty dire. But this was a few years ago. We actually just used one mic for this shoot. It's a Sony PCM D50 linear pcm recorder. We use this setup on every shoot we do for pianos or blogs. The audio of the pianos fluctuates so much that the audio for the vocals needs to be raised in post-production but recorded at a lower level. This room isn't particularly suited for this type of recording and I'm working on a better permanent solution

Mike Lauderback Franz List specifically used Bosendorfer ; Leonard Bernstein; Tori Amos & many others... Bosendorfer piano adds to any music such harmonics which can't be archived performing on any other brand, those additional strings reverberate even if they are not engaged at all (not mentioning other unique features of this brand); adding dramatic difference in sound during performance...

As of 2019, there are many pianos which cost more than this one. Special art case Steinways, Bechsteins, and Grotrians, not to mention Fazioli who makes the F308, the largest piano in the world. Many concert grands cost $150,000 to $250,000 and there are pianos costing over $1,000.000. But as musical instruments, none of this matters, because there is no such thing as "The World's Best Piano". Pianos are like people. Regardless of manufacturer, the top five brands mentioned here, are all outstanding. But it's the tuning, adjustments and maintenance that make a fine piano an exceptional piano, not the brand name.

My parents were based at Rheindahlen in Germany, the owner of the piano was going back to UK and didn't want to pay to ship it home. It was offered to us at 200 DMs when the DM was 10 to the pound. That's £20. Because they were in the throes of buying a house in UK, ( big enough to have taken the piano ) and because they already had an upright in storage in UK, they said no. One of the regrets of my life to be sure.

Stephen Fiore There are a few composers that have written specifically for the Bosendorfer Grand Imperial, but it tends to be the performers own choice. If that blows your mind, you should check out the Stuart and Sons 102 key Concert Grand. This piano adds 5 keys at the top end and a fourth pedal. Apparently the Australian company wanted to create a true 9-octave chromatic scale piano, so they created a 97-key model in the 1990s and the 102-key model in 2014. (If you go to their website they have some samples of how this sounds)

+Rudolf Feindler Screw off. "That's generally the problem with English speaking folks, they don't care how a word is to be pronounced". Maybe in your experience, but trust me, the people I know (English speaking people) take the time of day to find out how a word is pronounced. English speaking people aren't the only people who mispronounce words.

+Ror shach Really? I tend to find Americans make much more of an effort to figure out how things are supposed to be pronounced. At least amongst educated circles (I've worked in English and American Universities) I find that the English are much more likely to pronounce a foreign name as if it were English, while Americans are much more likely to at least attempt the proper pronunciation (though more often than not butchering it). And why do we English speakers get so much crap for this? All other countries have started borrowing our words all the time and pronounce it with the sounds of their language. Nobody cares.

***** you are absolutely right, although the point of my comment was intended, that if people do such a video on something in particular like the bösendorfer, you may as well take the time to learn its proper pronounciation, which wasn't done here and therefore justifys my critic.

Really loved your presentation, your honesty, your passion, and your immaculate play of Schubert…and the other composers. It all sounds highly dramatic, while I sense that the recording has not rendered all the richness of the piano sound. But it was a fair image of the possibilities of this great master piano!

Besides, I DO think that Bösendorfer has the best design. the uncontinous rim (or how do you call that in english?) looks very nice, the messing pieces at the base of the legs, and just the word ''Bösendorfer'' looks very nice, nice logo. And the Black key's are realy awesome, even as the thing that the frame isn't going all the way to the rim, gives the soundboard a lot more room to sent the vibrations in the air. Definately not a bad piano!

For my part, I thought the tone of this piano was excellent, despite video cam sound recording, full and rich like a grand should be, and, I loved your renditions Robert, the word "passionate" comes to mind.

How right you are, Jennifer. I agree entirely that brand name is actually very little to do with it. If a piano is poorly maintained, tuned, regulated, toned, etc., then any instrument will sound second-rate. The University of Edinburgh had Donald Francis Tovey`s Bosendorfer Imperial, a Victorian piano, but maintained in perfect condition, and it was truly glorious.

Hello friend. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Fazioli is the most expensive piano made. Magnetic key bottoming assistance so that it won't miss a note, so how does one play Debussey? So my favourite is still Bösendorfer, for all of the reasons you explain. P.S. I also tune pianos. I especially love the rich middle bass and tenor tone.

One of the saddest stories I ever heard was that during the Falkland Islands conflict a British cruise ship was pressed into service as a troop carrier and they threw the ship's Bosendorfer over the side to make room for more bunks. Somewhere on the bottom of the Atlantic is a small pile of trace elements that was once a splendid piano.

Thanks for the demo.! Love the low end!!! I didn’t know they had the extra keys. Instead of all black I’d prefer grey or reverse colors, white sharp/flat keys. My piano compositions typically span the entire keyboard. One of them requires a strong low A, which is hard to find on most pianos. But, absolutely love the entire piano! Smart plate design too! It must let more of the soundboard out the top. I’m surprised all piano manufactures don’t adopt they plate design, saves on metal required.

For one, a Bosendorfer is so pristine that even a cat could make pretty music just from walking up and down the keys! So, the quality of the performance has a lot to do with if not everything to do with the piano. Instruments at this level are a joy to play and practice on for hours upon hours.

Yes, the way we sit at the piano is usually in a hunched over position. However I have a good tip which was given to me by a piano teacher many years ago to help prevent back problems and it works. Simply move your stool in closer to the piano to straighten up your back.

To everyone saying a digital piano is better, yes in some ways you are completely right. But to me, I like the acoustic feel. The touch of a real piano, the genuine sound, which is something a digital will never have. This is something of a work of art, and a digital is just a clipped sound. I have a digital, and while the sound is perfect, and maintenance is literally nothing, I would kill to have something that I would pay two thousand dollars a year to keep perfect. In my personal opinion, an acoustic piano will ALWAYS be better than a digital, so long as it's not broken and is well kept.
