I’m 70 in July and retired, but prior to my retirement I was an investigator having interviewed well over 100,000 people during my career. I point out this fact as being an expert about people; I know when I’m in the same room with truth, facts and evidence-based testimony, and I hear and see all three in this instructor. One word to describe the depth of experience and knowledge of this woman: WOW! Simply wow. Before today, I never knew she or her lectures existed… needless to say, I am fully aware of her now. 😊

I think she's made a complex subject as simple as she can and has done a great job doing so. I watched one video in her series and took a full page of notes. I will continue to do that, then make up a plan that suits my body and ailments. A cookbook would be great but I remember her saying she doesn't like to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I like her idea of cooking up things ahead of time like legumes or grains and freezing them to add to a meal. ❤

The nightshade part is so true my grandma (84) stopped eating tomatoes and it stopped her arthritis flare ups she no longer has that. I love tomatoes and was told by my naturopath to stop it for awhile to alleviate PMS symptoms and I did and they were completely gone 😢 but it’s sad cuz I love tomatoes lol

Barbara, I'm 70 and have followed your teaching for years, and I'm grateful and very fond of your dedication to us. This lecture about food is crying out for direction about oxalates though. Many grains, beans and certain vegetables are high oxalate toxic as well as having nutritious properties. When I hear you say certain foods don't suit some folks, it would be wise to take seriously the long ignored science. It's why we don't eat rhubarb. Spinach and almonds aren't the superstars we thought. Your thoughts on this subject would be appreciated. I've been studying "Toxic Superfoods" by Sally K Norton published this year. It's a revelation, it's a door of knowledge I cannot close.

Thank you Barbara YHWH has certainly given you wisdom knowledge and understanding concerning health and food. The big question I always have to ask myself when trying to find out if "this, or that" way of eating is right... Is: does this fall into line with biblical eating that the Creator of the Universe DESIGNED? you hit the nail right on the head of all that is in our faces on the internet these days..."which one is right". I look forward to learning from you always.

I’m confused about meat eaters..the carnivore diet. How come they’ve rid their health ailments, from minor to major issues, with no return of them as long as they stay high fat and meats and eggs? There are some who have health issues that will never be cured for them but it’s like non existent and or in remission or it’s gone away. And I’m not just talking about the newbies, there are people who’ve been eating that way for 10,20,50 yrs. Some as young as 2 yrs of age to 90 yrs of age. I was able to do it for 6 weeks but I know I can’t stay loyal to it because one meal off the diet ruined it for me and I’ve struggled since trying to get and stay on it for the past year and a half. Not everyone can do it though, I realize that. I can’t tolerate high fat everyday every meal. My heart already has rhythm issues and even doing keto makes the palpitations start in. Perhaps I’m one who is able to successfully do this type of diet? Idk yet but I’ve got to do something and quickly. Health issues are gaining on me. I’m sick n tired of them and fighting them and different diets and medications and side effects and new health issues.

@autumnfeldpausch5539 You would be better to try keto first and get properly fat adapted before even attempting carnivore. Perhaps keto would work better for you though. I have been carnivore now for 18 months, but was keto for 9 years previously. It can take weeks for some to get properly fat adapted, you may not have given your body enough time. All my osteo-arthritic pain has gone completely. No post menopausal symptoms either. Varicose veins are almost gone, increased lean muscle mass, increased bone density, reduced visceral fat (the bad stuff around the waist and organs). I am 65, fit, healthy & full of energy. (Also now a primal health coach) You said “one meal off the diet”…. there’s one problem right there. It’s a lifestyle not a diet. Go into it and stay there for the long term health benefits, not with the the idea of going back to your old diet sometime. Once you are fully fat adapted you become metabolically flexible and can dip in and out occasionally without any problem but that can take a while to get to that point for some people. You need to ease yourself into it initially and be consistent.

Sourdough Bread 6 cups flour (3 ½ cups wheat, 1 cup corn, 1 cup rye, ½ cup sesame, or any combination of flour can be used) 2 tsp salt 3 cups water 1-2 cups starter Put 3 cups of water (very hot water for a 2 hour rise, or cold water for a slow 6-8 hour rise) in a bowl with starter and salt. Add flours and mix well. Should not be stiff enough to knead, but not so moist that it falls apart. Place in oiled tin or line tin with Glad Bake. Glad Wrap top of tin and place in sun or warm place to rise. Once risen, bake in moderate oven for 1 ½ hours. Feeding Sourdough Starter ¼ starter 2 cups buckwheat/quinoa/millet flour 1 cup water Mix well and put back into washed jar. Cover jar with Glad Wrap. To make bread 1-2 times per week, keep starter in fridge. To make bread daily, keep starter on bench. Store in fridge when you go away. Sourdough is the product of two micro-organisms. The wild yeast makes the bread rise, and the bacteria, primarily lactobacilli, produces the sour flavour. Lacto bacilli produce the flavour by fermentation, which also prevents spoilage. Fermentation is the process by which a variety of bacterial organisms act on food to reproduce a variety of different textures, flavour and aromas. As each culture is a mixture of several strains of yeast and lactobacilli, some leaven rapidly, some slowly, just as some are mild and some are strong. You can capture your own wild culture by combining 2 cups flour and 1 cup water. Mix well and cover with cheesecloth. Let this sit outside. Stir twice in 24 hours. If you are successful, a 2 inch foam will form on the top of your mixture. Sourdough Bread in Breadmaker 2 cups warm water 1 tsp salt 1 dessertspoon olive oil 1 cup starter 5 cups flour Place water, salt, oil and starter in tin. Pour flour on top. Set bread maker on 5 hour cycle or a 12 hour cycle over night. When completed bake another half hour in oven. Gluten Free Sour-Dough Bread 2 tsp salt 3 ½ cups water 1 to 2 cups of buckwheat starter (take your starter out of the fridge a few hours before you make your bread to bring it to room temperature). 2 cups millet flour 2 cups quinoa flour (or sorghum flour) 2 cups buckwheat flour ¼ cup psyllium husk 2 Tbsp olive oil Note: any of the flours can be substituted for another gluten free flour. Starter can be made with buckwheat or any other gluten free flour. Place salt, water, and starter in a bowl. Mix well to dissolve salt. Add flour and oil and mix well. Add psyllium husk last and mix it in well. Dough should look like a very thick cake batter. You may need to add water or flour to get the right consistency. Put mixture into well oiled bread tin. If you like you can sprinkle sesame seeds in bread tin and on top of bread that has been lightly oiled. Cover with lid or glad wrap. Let dough rise for 3-4 hours (this depends on how warm the room temperature is, dough will rise quicker in a warm room and slower in a room that is cold). Dough height should increase a third to half more than the original size. (If you let it rise higher it will most likely collapse in the oven - “over-risen”). Bake at 350° F for 1 ½ hours. You can put foil on top of the bread tin for the first hour so that it stops the bread from drying out and getting too dark. When cooked, pull out of the tin and let cool on a cooling rack. Bread cuts easiest when it is cold. Feeding Your starter: Don’t forget to feed your starter after every time you make bread. Always leave a little starter in your starter jar (minimum 1 spoonful). Add equal buckwheat (or other gluten free) flour and water (also called feeding your starter) until you get a batter mixture to ½ your jar volume (approximately 1 litre jar). Cover with glad wrap and place in the fridge until you make your next bread. If you are making bread twice a week you should not have to feed your starter between bakes. It is best to feed your starter twice a week if you are not making bread. Starter will rise in the fridge and then collapse once it has worked through all the carbohydrate. If you are making bread only once a week and the starter has collapsed feed your starter ½ a day before or the night before making bread and one other time during the week by adding a few spoonfuls of flour and water. Keep the starter in the fridge until you make bread to stop it from going too sour.

There are 3 things that she said that may need to be reviewed: Dra Natasha Campbell does not promote vegetable soup in her diet (she actually focus a lot on animal based broth and exclusion of all carbs and fruits and some vegetables), I believe Atkins was not the first to promote a low carb diet based on observation and science (I believe Dr Price came first), the myth that humans are essentially vegetarians that eat animal meat once every 4 weeks (they kill animal, have a feast then do not eat meat again for weeks...that is a myth, specially in regions where winter is rough. Hunting was a normal human activity all over the world). Agriculture may have led to less "famine" among humans as it provides food for survival, that does not mean that because humans "cultivate" vegetables and fruits for survival that those are the basis of a proper human diet. There is a time for everything... detox is needed when a person is sick and a vegetarian based diet will detox, for a while, lije fasting. However no one should fast forever the same way that humans are not meant to be vegans.

My biggest hang up is deciding if I should follow a Whole Food Plant Based diet, or the Paleo, Keto, Carnivore type diet. Both are very against sugar, so they at least have that in common. But on WFPB you can eat whole wheat bread and beans but no fats or dairy. On the low carb diets you can eat fats and dairy and meats, but no carbs. Miraculous results from each one, but but both have drawbacks such as wheat belly or clogged arteries. What does Barbara recommend?
