I have been using this TN 20 for 3 weeks now and I have to say it's been one of my favorites. I have to agree with Chris from PM101, Thrunite is listening to us....Very good flashlight, they got this one right......

I EDC a Nitecore EC21 with an 18650 just fine. I'm an airframe mechanic and pilot, so I need the variance in light output. It's even a great EDC even for just letting the dog out, and I recharge at 2 to 3 week intervals.
@MrWillyp006 жыл бұрын
Agree, rarely need anything over 1000 lumens unless it's a thrower. My throwers have the sliding heads so you can zoom out if need be. Most of the time, I use 30 lumens or less. Inspecting for stress cracks, would guess you use a head lamp a lot.

I bought one. It will be my carry light at work. The 3800 lumens is fantastic to have.
@Madman65056 жыл бұрын
I agree, for general EDC anything bigger than an 18650 light starts getting cumbersome. But man that is impressive output for the size.

Dual batteries nose to tail (in series) like that would double your voltage, not your current. Would still be an advantage, but would be better if you could find some way to put them in parallel.

Would a dual 26650 damage the led or the internals like over power it? Or would it just extend the run-time?

TC20 is a great light and replaced Fenix PD40 as my favorite 26650 flood light! While 26650 format light may be considered too big for EDC, it's really perfect in the hand and I prefer it for outdoors use when I can carry it in the jacket pocket. The extra battery capacity is also a plus.
@FatherPatriot5 жыл бұрын
I think the size of the light, the output, number of modes, and run time are all outstanding....I just wish it had a tailcap switch. I can't even use the thing with gloves on because the switch is so tiny. Other than the tiny side switch, I absolutely love mine.

This light may not be an ideal EDC light, but I think it would make a good home, vehicle or campsite light. Especially here in the NW where you may want some extra light to illuminate a Sasquatch visiting the camp and you want to get a decent photo of it. ;-)

This light is made to head stand on a shelf, not much good for anything else. Can see it on a kitchen counter next to the toaster oven, near the back door. It would be very good for that.

I like the idea of the double 18650's, like the Mag light, and to mention Mag lights, I still have two of them from probably 20 years ago and they still work ok, but there is nothing like modern LED's , and I wont give up my Thrunite.

Ben I love your reviews. IMO this is a specialty light. It's an amazing thrower as you demonstrated. We use ours to reach out and illuminate the far edges of our fields as a searchlight. This light can really cover some serious ground. At 200 yards this light doesn't even break into a sweat. The beam holds tight at some really impressive distances.

Just received this torch yesterday - first thing i noticed is that doesn't have a ramp mode - like my Thrunite TN36 does - it only has 2 settings effectively, medium and max - the max setting without Turbo mode is 1800 lumens - which is really quite low and well below the max 3800 lumens in Turbo mode. In my view the driver either needs another level to bring it up to at least 2,500 lumens or ramp mode so you can set the level yourself - I like my custom settings with ramp mode around 75% of Turbo - which in this case would be around 2,700 lumens. So absent this there is a huge gap between 1800 lumens max setting and Turbo at 3,800. Even at Turbo setting, I find that the Convoy M3 at almost a third of the price is quite a bit brighter. So while its a good looking and well made torch - its missing these basic functions, so its going back to Amazon - for someone else to purchase who doesn't mind or care about such obvious flaws.
@patricj9514 жыл бұрын
I would say that the difference between 1800 and 3800 lumen is not huge for the eyes. I hardly use my TC20 at turbo because high mode is still very bright and can be runned at around 90 minutes without stepdown.
@stephenoshea11666 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review, I would also not edc it but I class it as a good walking light, or keeping in vehicle light. I have the similar R50 which I use in this way, it must get hot and or step down at some point with that power, even if it's not a large visible step down. It must ramp down to say 50-60% over say 5-10 mins to protect itself? the olights certainly do step down to avoid over heating.

Stephen O'shea mine does I get a few mins turbo then a gradual step down to about 1800 lumens

Mid Drift if 1800 is then flat regulated for runtime, then that's still very impressive and beyond the olight s.

Hmm. I beg to differ. I see that light being used in Urban Settings more than the Woods. For some examples: LEOs on desk jobs that get called out for a Riot or a Natural Disaster. Same thing for Hospitals during Blackouts. Or any other Office Job. How about the "Urban EDC Bags" that are seen on numerous "Cube Critters" at the Starbucks. Uber Drivers. Pizza Delivery Drivers. The Mail persons, or FedEx/Ups/Amazon delivery people. Or set it to Moonlight and put it on the Nightstand. I am thinking about getting one for THE Wife for her Office. She could put it next to her Desk Phone (Yes, Virginia, there's still a lot of Land Lines in Offices) and keep it charged off the Company juice. Heck, the Receptionist Desk would be a good spot. So think about it. After all, how many Generations have D Cell flashlights been used, and a 26650 will last a heck of a lot longer than most D Cells! Oh, for the guy who said "No One EDC's a 18650!", er, WRONG! I have in my hand my WOWTAC A2 Headlamp in my Hand this second. I pulled it out of the Head Band (which is now stowed in my Canadian Prepper Bugout Roll, just in case), put on the Clip from my WOWTAC A1S (which is my current Nightstand light), and the A2 goes in my Left Shirt Pocket EVERY SINGLE DAY at the Factory. Where it's been used TWICE for Power Outages and once for looking into a Dark Corner for a dropped part. FWIW, a couple of Co-workers ordered one after seeing it in Action. But the Thrunite/WOWTAC Switch Modes are the BOMB! Thanks for the Video, Ben.

Would you say this could replace a lantern for lighting up an area outdoors? Or car repair off-road? It certainly seems it can, st a distance cover good ground but I wonder if a lantern close up and it’s 360 spread makes more sense.

@@heythere6983 it does light up an area like a lantern but its a bit harsh. lanterns are a bit easier on the eyes for just seeing generally around the area. get one of those obulbs for general lantern use

The TC20 holds 3800 lumens on turbo for ONE minute and then goes down to 1800 high. There is no 'lock out' option so the head or end cap needs to be twisted to break contact, but the head needs to be twisted on TIGHT or it acts funny. 20% off until the 31st of Jan 2018 on the Thrunite web site CODE = TC20

The 26650 just isn't ready to compete with the 18650. If a top quality, 10 amp hour 26650 (imr or fully controlled) costs half of what the current good ones do with half that capacity, then they deserve consideration. Until then, just add more 18650's. I can get the best in bulk.
@hanf0226 жыл бұрын
Which camera are you using? Seems like your camera is very light sensitive :) I also would wish they would make a 2x 26650 with 2x 5000mah like in the tc20 size, but with more spot and more throw. Can you send them a suggestion to make one?

Why would I want a 5000mAh 26650 battery that weighs almost 4 times as much as a 3400mAh 18650? Would rather have a light that uses 2 18650's with longer run time, less weight, and slimmer profile for the same brightness. The increased length isn't that big an issue compared with girth for me.
@floofmonger6 жыл бұрын
Umm, high capqcity 26650s typically weigh twice as much as high 18650- doubt you'll find a single example of one weighing even 3x as much. Also, they can do 50A. As soon as you start talking about 3000+ lumens the extra capacity of 26650 is significant. There are no 1x18650 lights that can sustain 3000 lumen for more than a minute or so. You'd need 2x18650 to make that happen, and personally, I'd much rather have a short light with slightly more girth than a 2x18650 length light. Also, if I'm choosing a light with some throw it will typically have a relatively wide reflector. This is the case with TC20. the 26650 battery tube is still narrower than reflector. What great benefit would there be to having wide reflector above narrow 18650 tube? It would cover virtually the same realestate in pocket/bag, but have greatly diminished runtime/brightness.

Ben, I disagree with you. EDC flashlight as for me as right now is my TIP or my TINI (Nitecore), TC20 output and the runtime it is great with a single 26650, Why x2 26650? it will only add more weight and bulk. Perfect size for placing it in your jacket or pants pocket when you are hiking (12x4cm)

When you really think about it, it makes perfect sense. If you're carrying around a flashlight with significant weight and size for extended run times and higher brightness, the extra heft could be VERY useful for non-lethal self defense - IF, a VERY sturdy body/head/lens is constructed with self defense in mind. The big ole' C & D cell Maglites once served that purpose for security, LEOs, and the military.
