Willie, Sarah and their dog, Jack Spaniels, continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving their suburban life and moving over the sea to 'Live The Skye Life'!
In this episode, we take a week off from shed content to show you some of the other adventures we have been getting up to. Sarah is working with a local cafe & gallery to sell her prints, while Willie is getting creative in the kitchen again.
Plus we explore one of the most beautiful beaches on the Isle of Skye, which has us questioning whether we accidentally ended up on a Caribbean island instead of a Hebridean one..!

Bread Recipe:
1kg Strong Bread Flour
21g Yeast
2 Tbl Spoons Sugar
1 Tbl Spoon Salt
625ml Tepid Water
Make a reservoir in the flour & add the rest of the dry ingredients
Add in water & combine gently with the dry ingredients to create a dough
Knead until dough is stretchy
Prove for approx 1 hour
Knead again
Prove for another hour in loaf tins
Bake for 25 minutes at 180 degrees c

@@livingtheskyelife Jack Spaniels is well-behaved when it counts. He brings an instantaneous smile to my face whenever I see him and his antics. He clearly adores the two of you and it's pretty obvious that you adore him right back. Coral Beach looks amazing! How strange it is that the seaweed "coral" is only carried to that small stretch of beach and not further along the coast from the island where it's formed. Sarah, it was nice meeting your parents in the video. So nice they could be there when you were finishing up setting up your artwork display at the café. You're a talented artist and I'm sure you'll be selling lots of your prints there. Willie, that sea trout looked really good and the homemade bread looked delicious as well. Happy Easter to you!

There's just nothing like fresh, home-baked bread! I would recommend using much less yeast (only 2-3 grams per 1kg of flour), and letting the dough proof much longer (e.g. first over night, and then again for a few hours in the loaf tins). This gives the bread much more flavour. Also, I can recommend to pour half a glass of water into the oven when you put the bread in. The steam prevents the bread from getting dry. To get a nice crust, you can briefly open the oven to let the steam escape 10 minutes before the bread is finished. Greetings from Germany!

Honestly, doesn't matter how much yeast you you use. My brother and I are old, and use the same recipe. EXCEPT he uses 1/2 teaspoon yeast, because he has it rise over 8hours, first while he sleeps, then knocks it down, then 12 hours while he works. Give it a more sour flavor. I'm already retired, so I use about the same amount of yeast Will demonstrated, and raise 1 hour then two. Unless the second raise is overnight in the fridge because I'm tired and want to go to bed. It's just bread, it will do as you wish! Will, your loaves look lovely!

This Isle move keeps getting better and better. What an incredibly diverse place. Maybe it is called Coral Beach because Bleached Seaweed Sand Beach won't fit on the brochure? 😃I liked your bread lesson. It is good to see men cooking & baking because they love it. The colour and clarity of the sea at Coral beach is amazing. Looks very inviting for a swim but I know its damned freezing....even in summer! I could smell Willies bread when it came out of the oven! It reminded me of childhood times many many years ago (!!) when my mum used to have fresh bread delivered by a little bakery (no supermarkets back then!). Often the bread was still warm and i'd beg my mum to let me have the crust with some butter on!

Is it the Caribbean? No. Is it a coral beach? Again, no. Is it spectacularly beautiful? Definitely yes! Your editing on this video was superb. I loved the graduation shots on that blue water. Congrats on the retail space. The brunch looked amazing, but I really wanted a piece of that bread! You had more willpower than I would have on splitting one end! Still amazes me that you can have dogs come into a cafe. But of course, Jack is so well behaved, who wouldn’t want him as a guest? Lovely to meet your parents. See you next week! ❤️

No USA ..so since the 3 (mudlarking + other things) channels that I watch started, I have so enjoyed learning about England and Scotland. I love watching Jack and his intact tail is an additional attraction. Here in the US the breeders of many types of sporting dogs are still bobbing the tails so my current Brittany spaniel as well as my beloved Springers (rip dear souls) are left with stubs that they still manage to energetically wave.

Aww - that does also happen to working dogs in England, but it is illegal in Scotland now thank goodness. Jack communicates so much through his wee tail 😊

I have an American cocker spaniel here in Toronto. He’s my 5th spaniel, and first spaniel from a breeder, and his tail is docked. I asked that it not be, but the breeder wouldn’t agree to sell him to me unless his tail was docked. They don’t seem to do it to other spaniel breeds here. Springers here thankfully have their beautiful tails. It is completely unnecessary for a pet. However William, my spaniel still likes to wave his stubby tail.

@@elizabethheatley22 from talking to breeders, it has to do with showing dogs to earn titles. Judges for certain breeds prefer dogs with docked tails over those with intact tails. The same applies to breeds that have their ears cropped even though some countries have banned both practices as cruel and unnecessary. Unless a dog will be exposed to fencing that is barbed there should be no reason to crop tails, but trimmed tail fur even solves that issue. Our Pekinese, an uncommon farm dog for sure, did get entangled in some very old barbed wire that was in a pasture. We thought we had cleared the pastures of hazards but missed that area. She was very lucky that we found her and were able to cut her tail fur off enough to rescue her as her white fur blended into the falling snow. After that incident I always trimmed her tail fur (as cute as it was when long, well groomed, and gracefully folded over her back and waving like a flag) as she loved following the bigger dogs into the pastures. Safety first. Our spaniels get their long belly fur (on the sides of their bellies) and leg feathers trimmed short too to prevent all manner of burdocks and weeds from adhering to them and getting carted into the house. Currently we are in Mud Season which means that the dogs get many hose showers and bucket baths before being allowed back inside after their farm explorations. Like Jack our dogs love playing in our large spring fed ponds looking for treasures known only to them. We refer to that behavior as Mudlarking in mud season, Ponding in summers.

Oh, wait, he's half scottish so never mind. And besides, I have him trained and broken in like a comfortable pair of slippers. So no, not trading him. I agree, the commercial bread in supermarkets started making me ill. It has so many dodgy additives it's not surprising. The last white bread I bought was like a puff of wind and after eating only a couple of slices, it made my heart race. I bake organic wholemeal bread that's super delicious and it never gives me any digestive problems. Keep baking! 😊

Haggis, our westie, is just like Jack Spaniels go to a cafe or pub, he just crashes, no problem what so ever. He does the floppy head when you talk to him.

Aww no! Skye is very accommodating to dogs - in fact most of the cafes in the Highlands are dog friendly. It’s mostly in the restaurants and places in towns & cities that you aren’t allowed dogs 😊

Cafè Cuil looks like such a great place, for art and for a yummy brunch. I laughed at your mention of "Pancake Day", Sarah, because I am a lifelong pancake aficionado, too... Actually, lots of good food in this episode! So glad you shared your trip to Coral Beach with us. The water there! Will look forward to seeing progress on the shed & byre. I loved the mix in this video. The bagpipes were awesome with the bread prep and cooking! So proud of Sarah. I visited her website a couple of weeks ago and was disappointed that she wasn’t shipping to the USA. I will keeping checking back her paintings and prints are beautiful. I forget sometimes that Willie does all the music. The interlude music is wonderful and somehow fitting for the quiet majestic scenery of Skye. Keep up the good work and Jack Spaniels is the star!!

Great video. Quick eco tip for Willie; run a tea towel under the hot tap, wring it out and cover the bowl with that. Keeps dough warm & moist and no nasty clingfilm to go in the bin. Bravo Sarah with your retail space. Exciting times.

I’ve a photo of me standing in the bone chilling water in “the Minch” at Coral Beach in May 2007 😂. My husband had a sabbatical from NZ primary teaching and we spent 13 weeks travelling Scotland in a wee car. A great trip. Thanks for stirring the memories. ❤
