Living The Skye Life

Күн бұрын

Willie, Sarah and their dog, Jack Spaniels, continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving their suburban life and moving over the sea to 'Live The Skye Life'!
In this episode, it's a busy week for the 'Skye Lifers'. We continue building a shed from scratch - with a little help from our friend & neighbour, Richard, as well as clearing up our local beach for a recycling project and installing power in our stone outbuilding.
BUT - will all our efforts come to nothing as we weather one of the island's notoriously wild winter storms..?!

Yes. Down here on the Kent coast, the media are concerned with sewage discharges into the sea, especially after heavy rain, but there is also a lot of nylon rope and fishing net washed up.

Glad you are safe! I’m recovering from Covid in Arkansas, USA. Just got power back after a tornado got very close to me on Friday. So wonderful to be able to watch your new video! Such a luxury after the cold and dark. Sorry you didn’t get fish, Willy. But I’m glad you had your familiar big green umbrella. Sorry your rope washed away, Sarah. But I’m glad you had the strength to go out and gather it up again! How nice to see your friends helping you out! Stay safe and well, folks!

The whole video as Sarah started her rope collection and said the rope would be recycled into plant pots, I envisioned people making plant containers out of the rope by using basketry and macrame techniques. I had to laugh when the picture of the nice pots they make out of the rope came up, totally different from my expectations. 😆

That was the grossest bait I've ever seen. I'm sorry you didn't catch anything after all that work, but it was really fun watching the process. I love seeing the shed come together (thanks Richard), as well as watching the progress on the byre. The electric is a major accomplishment (thanks Ian). I can't believe how much debris there is out there. It looks pristine at first. I'm glad they have something to do with all that rope and netting so it doesn't just sit there looking ugly and possibly harming wild life. Thanks for your efforts in the clean-up!! You're really giving us a good idea of how difficult life is there. The weather is definitely a challenge. You both seem to be coping well. Thanks for taking us along on the journey. 😊

Definitely some ups and downs this week. The ups are winning in spite of no fish. There were pearls and the wisdom they brought. It’s a dog’s life as Jack’s waggy tail shows. De Nero was a gracious guest along with Iain and his tool. Richard’s skills are amazing. All bloopers aside, I’m hungry just watching your efforts. Hmmm, yesterday’s birthday lunch with my son was great. I can hardly wait to see how next week goes and hope you get more plant pots Sarah for all your efforts.

Major storms here too. We went from Ohio to Pennsylvania for meetings. Came back and 2 massive maple trees , root ball and all came down from our neighbor's woods onto our driveway, almost hitting our roof. Mhusband is going to be 75 tgis week and has had a major heart attack, I have had 3 cancer battles but we just spent 6 hours clearing what we can on our drive. Just found out it is NOT our neighbors responsibility, it is OURS . Storm, mother nature.

Great video! Willy I can’t believe that happened to you. That was wild! I was worried that you guys got flooded out. So the sea actually ends at the fence post? Sara, my heart sank when I heard about all of the rope that you had collected. That was a lot of work. Fortunately, you were still able to collect the same rope at the end which I thought was pretty clever. I love how people are getting creative about all this nasty plastic. I’ve been bringing canvas bags to the grocery store for 30 years and everybody thought I was nuts. Now I get the last laugh. Willie, I can’t believe how much you got done in the middle of all that crazy weather. I’m afraid us Californians would’ve rolled over and melted. You guys have to be pretty damn hearty to live out there. I’m glad that you had all the help. That was good really enjoyed this one as I say that every week I think, but I really do thanks again and. Sending love 💜🤗🤟🏻🦔🇺🇸

Wow, that was a shocking amount of old rope! Thanks for removing from the beach. I grew up on Skye, but have been living in Singapore for the last 20 years, so a bit of a change. This video really brought back some good memories of Skye for me, which is what I get most from your videos - love that you kept filming through that blast of wind, could really feel it. That's typical Skye winter weather, makes you feel alive. In Skye I would say March could still be considered winter, but often it can roll right into the best summer weather in April! The pearls in the mussels was something that brought back memories for me too. When I was about 8 or 9 we used to break open mussels to find the same. I also used to spend a lot of my days fishing off piers at Portree and Dunvegan, but not at this time of the year 😉.

I loved the wee crabs and that you returned them to a tidal pool. The shed is moving along nicely and itcis wonderful to have power to the byre. Sarah is doing a wonderful thing collecting the tide's gifts for recycling! You two, along with Jack Spaniels and your other friends, always brighten Sundays❤

That was a horrendous storm you got caught in William! Never seen anything quite like it! Shame about your bucket, and no fish!!! Sarah ‘s is doing a great job, cleaning up the rope etc lying around! It’s ridiculous the amount of rubbish etc!! Loved the video!xx😁

Hi, Monday morning delight, Scotland at its finest, sun, rain, hail, and hurricane, ta dah. Such a busy video, Iain who impressed with the biggest drill - ever and his impression of a possum in the attic; Richard with his weather dodging stoicism while skillfully guiding Willie in Shed Building skills; and Sarah pulling her weight, repeatedly, in her loch beach cleaning project to help the Skye recycling team. Phew, Jack and De Niro definitely enjoying their laid-back life. Great week, and more to look forward to, thanks for sharing. Loved the exit overlit by your electric lamp - sign of things to come, ha ha. Cheers, take care xx
