The point is that there isn't a Purgatory. There's no biblical support for it no matter how many verses Catholics want to twist. The very citing of it suggests that Christ payment for sin wasn't enough. That is cold hard heresy!

Eric0873 So God would send you to Hell for even a TINY miniscule SIN. Then God is NOT loving at all, that's why there is Purgatory because God is so LOVING, NO ONE is perfect when they die so God cleanses our sin in Purgatory, anyway I don't TRUST Protestants PRIVATE revelation and vision.

Quite right their is no purgatory it's a false religion. During the time of the indulgence scandal In the 1500 s a monk borrowed a lot of money to pay for his ordination he had to pay the bank back .he toured the country with a salesman saying as soon as the coin in the coffer rings a soul from purgatory springs how sad how wicked only true faith in Jesus can a person be saved.

Hebrews 9:27 rebukes "The Purgatory" and "Reincarnation". After Jesus cried out nailed from the cross " It is FINISHED" nothing else can be added. Jesus paid ALL SINS past, present and future. No good works. No merits. No religious practices or prayers will get you into Heaven. No beating yourself with cactuses. No praying on your knees dragging yourself to Marian, Angelic or even Saints shrine will get you into Heaven. You're praying to demons! I don't care if you were baptized as an infant no water will EVER remove your sins. I don't care how many Masses you take that will NEVER remove your sins. You need Jesus precious shred blood to wash away your sin debt. In John 14:6 Jesus said "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man cometh to the Father except BY ME". Only through Jesus you will be saved!

I got a question: Why do we ask each other to pray for us instead of praying to God ourselves? Each other is not Jesus. We must pray directly to Jesus.

Another question: Since Jesus took care of all our sins even in the future .. if a Christian murders someone .. it is okay because he is retroactively forgiven? Or even breaking any of the commandments... we are already forgiven so now we can do what ever we want to right? As long as we believe in Jesus we can do what ever now?

@@angieskidney I can not tell if your serious, or just being sarcastic, but I will assume that you're serious. Though Jesus paid the debt for all of the sins of the world, the free gift still has to be appropriated to your account. How is this accomplished? By Grace through faith (from Ephesians 2:8, 9). Faith in the True Gospel as clearly stated in 1 Corinthians 15: 1 - 4 that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and that He rose from the dead the third day according to the Scriptures. Generally, our approach to God about the Gospel is with humility and remorse over our sin, because it cost Jesus His life. Another passage from Romans 10:9, 10 says, "That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." If a person truely believes, he will follow God's will. There are people that are false converts, who say they believe, but their life shows that they only spoke the words, but didn't believe in their heart. I John 2 is kind of a test to see if a person truely believes. It gives characteristics that follow one who believes, like if we know Him, we will keep His commandments, etc. But, we don't do this to be saved, but because of our gratitude for His love toward us. I hope this helps. God bless!

That's not scriptural. Matt 12:32: "And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come." In Heaven there is no sin to forgive and no sin in Hell is forgiven. There must be another place in the age to come where sin is forgiven. And that dovetails well with purgatory.

Another difference between bible based Christians and Catholics is regarding conversion. The Catholic church teaches that we are called to live in a permanent state of conversion in the understanding that as life unfolds we continue to sin, so conversion is long and progressive whereas bible based Christians believe in miraculous conversions like Saint Paul falling off his horse and to never sin again. Now, if a Catholic dies in communion with God, but he is still undergoing his conversion process (because he has not yet mastered his lower passions for instance) then he may go to Purgatory. Indeed Jesus paid the penalty but we as sinners still have to enter the narrow door. Our Lord says: struggle and fight to enter through the narrow door, in other words, He opened the door but we still have to go through it. I hope this helps understand this subject.

I agree. Obedience of the commandments comes when we're grateful for what we've already been forgiven of when we repent and trust in Christ alone. Any future sins we fall into should be asked forgiveness for. I just don't want anyone to think that they can maintain their salvation when they didn't initiate it to begin with.

13:52. Corrie Ten Boom is one of the most influential Christians within the past 90+ years, throughout the world. You can still watch her YWAM teaching videos on YT. She was only off in one area of Bible Truths, and that's with the Rapture event. She did not believe in the Biblical Pre-Tribulational Rapture event, though there are so many Bible passages that make it clear that there will be. She was right-on, though. with the Gospel of Christ and Christian living.

YOUR rapture doctrine was invented in 1853 in the United States. It was unheard of before that. There will be a second coming of Jesus, not a third. And you would be more correct to claim Ten Boom as an influential Protestant as there were far more influential Catholic Christians over the same period.

Joe, you're reading Caltholic dogma and tradition into the text. 1) ALL sins are forgiven for those who repent and put their trust in Christ alone by faith alone. 2) Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is commited by those who know the truth and yet reject Christ anyway. Purgatory is not an option.

No Christian we know of even attempts to deny this text speaks of the judgment of God where the works of the faithful will be tested after death. It says our works will go through “fire,” figuratively speaking. In Scripture, “fire” is used metaphorically in two ways: as a purifying agent (Mal 3:2-3, Mt 3:11, Mk 9:49) and as that which consumes (Mt 3:12, 2 Thess 1:7-8).

@Nadef403

David Bermudez you’re so wrong about what you think the Catholic Church teaches, purgatory IS in the Bible, some Christians just want to ignore it because they don’t wanna accept it, because they want everything free and easy and on their convenience, but it does not work like that, it’s not what we or other thinks, is about what God has said, he left his church on earth in the hands of Peter, and the pope is the successor of Peter on earth. Jesus Christ died in the cross so we could go to heaven because we couldn’t before, that’s what he died, his blood and dead was the price, when we sin and we repent and confess our sins WE ARE FORGIVEN because of Jesus death in the cross, BUT As we know God is all merciful but he is also just, and we have to clean our souls from the sins we made even tho we are already forgiven and will go to heaven, because NO ONE can get into heaven if our soul isn’t holy and pure, and the way to clean it is passing through purgatory, and here’s where In the Bible says it: Make friends quickly with your accuser, while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison; truly I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny (Matthew 5:25-26). That prison it talks about where the judge (God) will send you until you pay the last penny is the purgatory. Another verse: For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble-each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. I Corinthians 3:11-15 No Christian sect I know of even attempts to deny this text speaks of the judgment of God where the works of the faithful will be tested after death. It says our works will go through “fire,” figuratively speaking. In Scripture, “fire” is used metaphorically in two ways: as a purifying agent (Mal. 3:2-3; Matt. 3:11; Mark 9:49); and as that which consumes (Matt. 3:12; 2 Thess. 1:7-8). So it is a fitting symbol here for God’s judgment. Some of the “works” represented are being burned up and some are being purified. These works survive or burn according to their essential “quality” (Gr. hopoiov - of what sort). What is being referred to cannot be heaven because there are imperfections that need to be “burned up” (see again, Rev. 21:27, Hab. 1:13). It cannot be hell because souls are being saved. So what is it? The Protestant calls it “the Judgment” and we Catholics agree. We Catholics simply specify the part of the judgment of the saved where imperfections are purged as “Purgatory.” And There’s more, they’re not my words or any other catholic words, they are GOD’S WORDS, and if someone denies it then they don’t believe in God’s words. I hope you find the truth. God bless you.

Because it's an idea of the imagination of the Catholic Church put in place 4 control and money making scheme. If that was the case then Jesus came and died in vain because we could just sit in purgatory longer and eventually get to heaven. @@malcolmscrivener8750 There's suffering in the process of purification but not torment. One knows he is saved and has to do there what he did not do while in the flesh. God gave us a hint on how he purifies in Malachi and it included suffering. But I know I won't be abandoned by family, friends, and the church which will be praying for my release. I'm surprised that you are so flippant about hellfire as if you aren't a false teacher. Jesus established only one church and you take joy in attacking it even though he said he would never leave it. So you enjoy attacking Jesus and think you are just going to waltz your way into Heaven? I suggest you get real.

@@bridgefin Is that what you think ? That I think I’m just going to waltz my way into heaven ? You must have no idea of what has happened to me , for me to be telling all and sundry , that the Lord Jesus Christ is my Saviour , and the instant He calls me home , by ending my life here , I will be present with Him in heaven for ever . Jesus died for me on the cross and paid with His suffering and life . ALL the punishment that I deserved . Let me tell you what happened to me . I was serving time in prison for cultivating 1500 marijuana plants ,when an old Christian missionary shared the Gospel with me , and by the grace of God , I believed , and trusted the Lord Jesus for my forgiveness and salvation . That was in the late 70s . Life carried me along , but long story short , through thick and thin , the Lord has been with me every step of the way . The point is , Jesus has sustained me and given me the absolute assurance of eternal life . This is personal and believe me , this IS real . Why else do you think I spend my time on U Tube comments , striving and pleading for the Lords people , whom He will save ? Out of gratitude and thankfulness , and for no other reason . I don’t want to see anyone other than satan and his fallen angels in the lake of fire . The older I become , the more clearly I see sinfulness around me , so I feel a stronger need to warn people of their danger . Now , we both know there is no Biblical evidence for purgatory . You mention “a hint “ in Malachi but your only support is in Maccabees which was only added by C of Trent in 1546 and is not accepted in the Canon . By believing in this flimsy doctrine you are denying the sufficiency of the Lords sacrifice to save His elect . There is nothing you can do by suffering , or paying for your sins in some way , to earn your atonement before Almighty God ! We are sinful in Gods sight and all our righteousness is as filthy rags . We cannot bribe the judge . Therefore , by your beliefs , I know you have not been born again , and are unsaved ! You are not trusting in Jesus to save you , and are still lost in your trespasses and sins . If you were to die this night , as purgatory doesn’t exist , you would go to hell to await your judgement , and then be thrown into the firey lake , all by yourself for eternal torment and remorse . I take this extremely seriously , and am doing my best to warn you in love , in Jesus’ name .

Joe, I'm not against traditions or any order of beliefs found in statements of faith or confessions, but those traditions and such need to be biblically informed. And you're right, there are alot of denominations in Protestantism, but only b/c of secondary, non-essential issues. Purgatory is in infringement upon Biblical Soteriology which is an essential of the Christian faith. If Christ died for the sins of the world, yet one needs purgatory to be fully cleansed of sin then what's the Cross 4?

Well, first of all, the canon of Scripture began to form in the very days the Bible was being written, before the Roman Catholic church was even in existence. We can see this in the gospel of Luke within only a FEW YEARS of its writing (1 Timothy quotes Luke 10:7). Paul's writings were also recognized as scripture during his own day (2 Peter 3:16; 1 Corinthians 14:37; 1 Thessalonians 2:13). Well, the Catholic church first assembled the Bible. When Martin Luther threw the books out that he didn't like, I guess that wasn't the imperfectness of man, THAT was inspired by God. The Catechism simply states what the Church's teachings are clearly, so as to be easy to reference. It is not a Holy Scripture, so don't compare it with the Bible. (Everything in the Catechism is derived directly from Bible verses anyway).

@Jacob Waddle No one can become perfect on their own with their own efforts. We need God's grace for that, and Jesus gained that grace for us on the cross. There is no salvation in any other than Jesus. This is why outside the Church there is no salvation, because the Catholic Church is Jesus's Church. "It is finished" meant that His suffering had finished, and that the Old Covenant had finished (see the video "The Fourth Cup" by Scott Hahn). It did not mean that Jesus's work had finished or that we are excused from doing good works of charity. If we aren't supposed to do anything, why does James 1:22 say to be doers, and not just hearers, of the word? And if Jesus did it all on the cross and our good works aren't necessary, please explain Colossinans 1:24 and Matthew 25:31-46. Purgatory does exist and 2 Maccabees 2:15, Matthew 5:25-26, Luke 12:58-59, and 1 Corinthians 3:13-15 all say that it does. Jesus's death on the cross does not give us a license to sin, even though Martin Luther said it did. Jesus's death on the cross gives a chance to emulate Jesus and become like Him---sinless and full of good works. If we do not make effort to become like Jesus we will go to Hell, no matter how much faith we have, just like the rich man in the Lazarus/rich man parable. Jesus made the down payment on our salvation but we must make the installment payments (Colossians 1:24).

@Jacob Waddle You make many errors, Jacob, because you make the fundamental error of Protestantism, that of sola scriptura, thinking that everything got written down in the Bible and that every answer comes from the Bible. You do not seem to understand that the Bible is only one of many tools the Church uses to spread the gospel, and that many doctrines were not written down in the Bible. 2 Thessalonians 2:15 and John 21:25 clearly say this. 1 Timothy 3:15 says that the Church, not the Bible, is the pillar and ground of truth. The Ethiopian at Acts 8:31, asks, how can anyone understand scripture unless some man show him? The scriptures themselves do not say that scripture is the only source for doctrine and truth. As I have shown they say the exact opposite. According to 2 Thessalonians 2:15 some doctrines are passed down in the Church by word of mouth only. Any doctrine that can be shown to be taught by the "Church fathers", Christian leaders and writers of the first few centuries, and that has been taught by the Church down through the centuries, is to be considered on a par with scripture. Are you aware that it was the Catholic Church that put the Bible together in the first place, discerning which books would go in and which ones not, at the Council of Hippo, 393 a.d.? Trying to go by scripture and scripture alone is a recipe for disaster. The scriptures say many things that are subject to interpretation. Is "this is my body, this is my blood" to be interpreted literally? How about "call no man father" or "if your eye offend the pluck it out" or "call no man teacher" or Jesus's instruction to the steward to falsify records? How can we interpret these things, without the authoriive voice of the Catholic Church? And what about all the contradictions in scripture---the two different genealogies of Jesus in Matthew and Luke, the different accounts of how many women went to Jesus's tomb, the different accounts of Paul's conversion, whether Jesus died at noon or 3 p.m., whether Jesus died on the Passover or the day before, Jesus saying that before Abraham "I am" versus Jesus saying "the Father is greater than I" (is Jesus just a man or God Incarnate), Matthew 23:31-46 andJames 2:24-26 versus Ephesians 2:8-9 (are good works necessary for salvation or not?), Matthew 28:19 versus Acts 2:38, and on and on and on. 2 Peter 3:16 says that in scripture many things are difficult to understand, and that unlearned and unstable people wrest with it to their destruction. I do not accuse you of instability but we all are unlearned----no one person understands all of scripture, all of the cultural and historical references, and nuances, which things are literal and which things figurative. "Oh, I know the Bible means, the Holy Spirit tells me directly" won't work-----this approach has produced thousands of Protestant denominations, each one teaching something different than the one down the street. "Let scripture interpret scripture" is a little better, but who has the total and exhaustive knowledge of scripture to do this? And until the 1400s and 1500s most people couldn't read anyway, and even if they could they couldn't afford Bibles. (Prior to the invention of the printing press Bibles had to be hand copied and one single Bible would cost the average worker a year's salary. ) So what is the solution to all this? The solution is the Catholic Church and the teaching authority Jesus gave to her when He founded her. The remarkable thing is that century after century goes by and core Catholic doctrines remain the same. They remain the same because they are true. The remain the same because they are infallible, infallibility being a gift Jesus gave the Church. They remain the same because Jesus promised the church, when He founded her, that He would stay with her always. Put aside your human opinions and human interpretations and embrace the Church Jesus founded.
@GeorgePenton-np9rh
@GeorgePenton-np9rh 4 жыл бұрын
@Jacob Waddle But the Bible is not the yardstick and final authority----the Church is! According to 1 Timothy 3:15 the Church, not the Bible, is the pillar and ground of truth. The Bible is only one of many tools the Church uses to spread the gospel and teach the word. Verses that say nothing should be added or subtracted "to this book" refer to copyists, admonishing them to be careful in copying sacred books, taking care not to add or delete anything, whether by neglect or design. It does not refer to the Church's authority to add books to the Bible and it does not refer to the Church's Oral Tradition----the Oral Tradition being those teachings the Church has that did not make it into the Bible----teachings referred to to 2 Thessalonians 2:15. If the Church lacked the authority to add books to the Bible, how could the Church, at the Council of Rome in 382 a.d., added 27 Christian writings to the Septuagint Old Testament to produce the Christian Bible? The Church's teachings on indulgences, homosexuality, and preaching the gospel have not changed. The Church still issues indulgences but has not sold them since 1567. The Church condemns homosexual sex as an abomination crying to Heaven. The Church sees her mission as a light in the world that exists to spread the gospel throughout the world. Pope Francis may say otherwise but the Church as an institution continues to teach the same doctrines, century after century.
@GeorgePenton-np9rh
@GeorgePenton-np9rh 4 жыл бұрын
@Jacob Waddle Two things you have to keep in mind about papal infallibility: (1) the pope cannot introduce new doctrine, he can only re-iterate what the doctrine has always been. If Pope Francis says that homosexual sex is okay, or that there is no Hell, or that people shouldn't evangelize, or that God wills that there be different religions, or that Jesus did not really multiply the loaves and fishes-----all things Francis has said since becoming Pope----then he is not speaking infallibly because all of the above are contrary to what the Church has taught down through the centuries. (2) The pope is only infallible if he is speaking to the whole Church and commanding the whole Church to ascent. This is rarely done. It was only done four times in the twentieth century, once in the nineteenth, and none so far this century. We should properly see the Church as being the infallible teacher, the Church as an institution, and only count those doctrines that have always been held as being the infallible doctrines of the Church, and the pope as being infallible only because he is the visible head of the Church, Jesus being the invisible head of the Church. If any Catholic person, ,lay, priest, or pope, or any Catholic document from any council or any time in history, says such-and-such is the infallible teaching of the Church, ask yourself is this what the Church always taught down through the centuries? If the answer is no then it is not an infallible statement.

Jesus death in the cross will wash away our sins, but only if we repent of them. Most people never repent of their smaller sins---most people don't even know what they all are---and I mean good sincere Christians too. That's why Purgatory exists. Remember nothing undefined can enter the Kingdom of God (Revelation 21:27). There are a small number of Christians who have, with the Lord's grace, advanced so far in the spiritual life that they have repented of, and given up, all their minor faults and failings. These will go straight to Heaven when they pass this life. For biblical proofs for Purgatory see 2 Maccabees 12:43-46, Matthew 5:25-26, Luke 12:58-59, and 1 Corinthians 3:13-15.

Pope Damasus urged Jerome to not break tradition and keep books in Bible. From the time of Jesus, Christians have been using the Septuagint version of the Old Testament (a Greek translation made in Alexandria), which contains these books. This is evident in the fact that the majority of the Old Testament quotes in the New Testament are from the Septuagint. This proves that the Septuagint was widely accepted and very important to the earliest Christians from the time of Jesus

Read the whole book, in context, while comparing it with the rest of the New Testament. James does not contradict the doctrine of salvation by faith alone. You will see that it actually compliments it. So don't go on a tangent about what the Roman Catholic Church teaches. It's a man made religion that exalts man instead of God.

Since it is WRITTEN in the Scriptures "NO UNCLEAN thing shall enter Heaven." There is a DIFFERENCE between BIG sins and SMALL sins, a BIG sin is called Mortal Sin which SEPARATES us from God, while a SMALL sin is Venial Sin which WOUNDS our relationship with God. No it does not mean jesus is not good enough in his death. You need to be purified. You are twisting. And makes stuff up. Yes he paid it in full. He opened the gates of heaven so we dont go to hell. Purgatory has absolutely nothing to do with jesus death not being enough. You are not understanding at all. His death opened the gates so we could enter heaven but we cna not enter unclean. Full of sin. There is still punishment for our sins even though we are forgiven.

Agree bobby. This is dangerous teaching ie Sins forgiven past present and future once and for all without taking into context other scripture. If thats the case, then why did Christ give the authority of forgiveness of sins to the Apostles in the upper room? He knew we would commit serious sin even when believing in him and gave us confession.

Romans 8:29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. Romans 8:30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. Ephesians 1:5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will-

@ nickyooo11 you understand nothing about biblical regeneration. Nothing you do can contribute to your salvation. Read Ephesians 2:8-9. If you add ANYTHING to God's grace, you diminish the work of the Cross. The Roman Catholic sacraments cannot save you. If you believe they can, then you are still under God's wrath. When a person is regenerated, they do not want to sin anymore. They still do, but they are saved by God's grace. it is not a license to sin because the desires have changed.

Romans 3:28 and Ephesians 2:8-9 refer to the Levitical laws and the works of the Levitical laws (circumcision, no pork, animal sacrifice, etc.) Jesus repealed those laws at Luke 16:16 and obeying them now does us no good. But good works of charity are still required, as Matthew 25:31-46 and James 2:26 command, and obedience to the ten commandments is also still required, as John 14:15 and Luke 16:17 say. For those of you who love to wuote Ephesians 2:8-9, read what verse 10 says.

George Penton verse 10 says that we were made to do good works. That has nothing to do with how we are saved. How we are saved is addressed in eight and nine. Because we are saved, because we are his church we do good works, not to be saved. Otherwise we could boast, or brag that we had something to do with our salvation and we don’t apart from faith, like scripture says.

Hebrew traditions have nothing to do with Christianity. Check your facts, and your context. Paul was just a man. Martin Luther was a man. The whole Bible was written by man, inspired by God. So yes, I guess man must be in control, because I don't think that God is physically on the Earth every second guiding our worship. Where in the Bible does it talk about religious internet shows? Does that make this whole thing sacrilegious?

Matthew 12:32 says, “And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” There are two major points in this scripture. 1) some sins are not forgiven 2) If there is an age to come where sins are NOT forgiven, there must be a place where sins ARE forgiven. In Hell there is no liberation, and in Heaven you must be perfected, so this Scripture is referring to a third place.

Someone argued with me that the Catholic religion is the only way because it's the oldest religion.
@GeorgePenton-np9rh
@GeorgePenton-np9rh 5 жыл бұрын
The Catholic Church is the oldest Church but it is not the One True Church because of that. It is the One True Church because she was founded by Jesus, and Jesus promised go stay with her until the end of time. The Catholic Church is the mystical body of Christ, the mystival bride of Christ, and the pillar and ground of truth. Thos is why outside the Church there is no salvation.

George Penton well you’re just spreading your lies all over the place. Do you know that the Jewish religion, which Christianity came from, goes all the way back to Adam and creation?So the Jewish religion would be the oldest.

@@sandina2cents779 1. The Jewish "Religion" is not nor was it ever a Church. 2. No, it does not date back to Adam. 3. It is NOT the oldest anything. Judaism dates back only to the 5th Century BC. You can hardly call others liars if you are not aware of the history you are quoting yourself.
