Consistently you two deliver the best expose's of the most exotic species of snake on Earth and your footage is 2nd to none. I thought Flaviceps was the largest of the Bungarus Genus and did not know Fasciatus could push 7 1/2 feet. Amazing!

Thanks! For all the hard work you do and the great films you produced i hope one day you all get sponsors you all more than deserve it. As someone who hates snakes this is as close to them as i care to get. But because i hate snakes does not mean i kill them even i know how important they are to a healthy ecosystem.

As usual, an excellent video about a beautiful snake. Best of all is the respect that you two show for animals, for the people who live with them and also for us. The snakes are not provoked and stressed, to produce a "juicier" footage. None of that suspenseful music, just the music of the natural world, the dialogues with the people and such. I love your work, bless you!

I'm from India & yes many snake rescuers here handle snakes with bare hands which might be shocking to you but I common here..like you said it's not advisable as many rescuers have been bitten & had to be rushed to the hospitals for administering antivenom..Here the rescuers fear only the Russels viper as it has a nervous temperament.. gr8t video by you as usual & hope you had a good time in my country

Oh wow! This is the main predator of javan spitting cobra in my house area! This, and its cousin Malayan krait (Bungarus candidus)! The snake rescue team often found and rescue this snake when they were herping this area. This snake is indeed fascinating! (I'm sorry for the pun) And since banded krait and malayan krait's habitat often clashed, people here tend to confuse which one is which. Not helping that their local names are really similar too ("Welang" for B. fasciatus, and "Weling" for B. candidus).

It's common here in India, people know they are highly poisonous, but you will be surprised people fear cobras, Russell's viper and especially common krait more. The reason is this snake is surprisingly calm and docile (yes, not agitated even if picked up by a snake catcher), and ventures out at night only.

This year I had two remarkable encounters with this snake here in Northern Thailand. The first time was at night as I drove my motorbike along an empty road surrounded by longan orchards. I had been driving a bit faster than I should have been going, when suddenly I came up on a huge (approx 2.5m /7ft) specimen of banded krait writhing and undulating over a stationary spot in the center of the road. I had no time whatsoever to react to avoid driving over it other than to swerve very slightly and hope it slithered away unharmed. My motorbike tires fortunately missed it by a hair, and it did indeed slither swiftly away. Wanting very much to have not harmed it, and respecting its magnificence, I turned around and went back to make sure that I had not run it over. I do not know exactly how to explain this, but I knew that the snake was very intentionally presenting itself to me in a personal greeting. I'm sorry I cannot explain it better, but if you experienced and saw what I saw, you would understand. The snake was greeting me very personally and deliberately, undulating and weaving yet remaining directly on the same spot in the center of the road. Although local Thai people kill every snake they see on sight, I very much did all I could to avoid harming this magnificent specimen, and never harm or kill any living thing if avoidable. I spoke a brief message out into the night air to this snake, acknowledging his greeting and apologizing for startling him, and wishing him safety and well-being amidst the dangers of the local farmers and dogs, etc., while also realizing that for this snake to have been so big, it must well be expert at this already. About a week later, at dusk, approximately 1.5km away from the original location on a perpendicular road in the general area of the same orchards, I came upon the exact same snake in the exact same manner greeting me yet again. This time I was cruising along much more slowly and had much more time to come up upon the snake carefully without needing to swerve or skid. I received his full greeting again as I rolled up, stopped my bike about 2m away from him, and as he began to slowly slither off into the tall grass, I spoke again to him that I am very honored to receive his greeting again, but I am very concerned for his safety lying in the middle of the road, that I want him to be careful and remain unharmed, as he is a magnificent spirit.... appearing as a snake. He casually slithered off at his own pace, and I have not seen him since. There is no question that there was something deeper behind this double greeting within the span of a week, and for lack of discerning anything more specific, I just accept it more or less as some kind of blessing from a nature spirit.

The banded krait looks calm and easy but not to forget the venom it has, few months back i saw a small common krait up the porch safely showed it the way out but was very active the moment it was touched. But nothing comes close to the mighty King Cobra. Cheers to your efforts from india with love.

Nádherný had a krásné záběry!

Beautiful footage of this stunning species. It is as well that kraits tend to be docile, as the venom is really nasty, as they have pre and post synaptic neurotoxins, and unless antivenom is given promptly, the bitten person will end up in a respirator for a considerable time, as the damaged neurons need to re-grow.

Everything about the banded krait, from the size, the coloration, and the tendency to prefer habitats close to water, are all comparable to some species of tiger snake. Maybe this is why it shouldn't come as a surprise to learn that tiger snake anti-venom has been used to treat bites by some species of krait. As lethal as kraits are, bites by the banded krait are almost unheard of.

Bagging the snake with your two hands while a different person drops it in is a little crazy since you have no ability to maneuver it in time with your own hands. They are just targets at that point.

This species rarely bites, but as we write earlier in the video, it is never good to risk anything! We think that people who work with venomous snakes should show using tools and be responsible. It is always a bit sad to see people freehandle and put themselves into an unecessary risk.
