This is actually a really old design. Have one from the 30's. German made, with a cast iron base/pot stand and spherical brass fueltank. Still works fine, bought it for 10 euro's at a flea market.

One thing to note is to make sure that there is no under burn on the burner after a good prime. I have a vintage German Turm alcohol stove and it is prone to do this after I prime it. There is no safer fuel source out there to use, that's why the marine industry uses alcohol stoves.

The reason they call it an oven is you can put a foldable oven on the burner and bake things like bread and cakes inside of it. I like it because it doesn't need a battery in order for it to work. I'm going to try using isopropyl alcohol 90% and see how well mine works. Like you, I too was worried about the fuel tank being so close to the flames. The first time I used mine, I did it outside on the concrete driveway. Better safe than sorry huh?😂Have a nice day everyone!

I do believe that little knob on the back is to provide fuel air mix so you can get a little more Oxygen into the burner mix and the yellow flame will die down. Don't quote me but may want to try it out.

I've been looking at this stove for quite a while but here in Canada they're really expensive. $80 plus tax comes to almost $100. I see another video coming up with somebody restoring an antique one of these so I guess this design has been around for a long time. I just got three little Lixada stoves in the last two weeks. Price of everything is going up quite a bit so I'm stocking up.

I saw a video on kerosene powered lamps by a KZbinr called Technology Connections. The stove operates the same way as the kerosene lantern did in his video. You have to basically let almost all of the alcohol burn before you turn the burner on. Otherwise you’re just gonna be wasting fuel and it’s not gonna be very effective or it could possibly just spit a lot of fuel out and you might have a bigger problem. So don’t turn on the burner. Just wait until the alcohol is almost out the ignite the burner. Yes, it will take a lot of time and it will not work in the wind. You need to be somewhere calm. Super awesome stove by the way. I think I’m going to buy it just because I find the “involved-ness” a slight romantic feature about the stove. It’s unique and takes a skilled hand. Sounds like a special tool.

You mentioned having to prime it like with the Coleman white gas stove.To me it's more like one of the MSR Wisperlight white gas stoves. Something else , folks always puts white gas in the MSR Wisperlight priming pan , using denatured alcohol makes more sense to me , no soot that way. My stove of choice is alcohol or wood ( twigs ) when camping. By the way the saying that he who has the most camping gear is the winner , a lot of us are in that race. lol.

It's just a picnic stove. Try denatured alcohol to see if the flame color changes. How well does it do in the wind? Most alcohol stoves use about 1 ounce of fuel every 30-50 minutes depending on the stove. 10 ounces is plenty of time to cook 3 nice meals. I don't see how you can bake with that. I guess it is possible. Trangia and similar were meant for backpacking but can be used almost anywhere. I have one. It works very well, especially if you put it inside a Firebox Nano. RedCamp stoves are almost the same as a Trangia.

Interesting set up. Not sure it is actually faster than a regular trangia. A good test would be to time both styles from the moment you take them out of their containers to actual boil. Useful for home though or car camping etc.
@carmenmartinez2882
@carmenmartinez2882 2 жыл бұрын
The difference is that you can regulate the flame for simmering etc much easier and precise than a Trangia. This reminds me of the white gas Coleman stoves but without the pumping and obviously lighter weight, although the Coleman is built like a tank for long lasting and taking a beating. Guess is just a matter of preference.

Nice! Came here to see how they work. Though of buying one myself. With all the things going on in Ukraine and energy krisis and the threat that they'll not promise there'll not be episodes of black outs. One of these and you can always make yourself some pasta bolognese, a bacon cheese burger and so on. I'm not a fan of propane so much stuff and only one use. I could use a kerosene stove too but I've not seem any new wick types and most vintage requires a lot of work. I'm not a fan of the Primus type either. Too tedious to start and again mostly vintage stuff that requires a lot of efford to get running - if I only had a proper work shop. So I might just order myself an alcohol one in the near future. Always have alcohol as it's used for many things, degreasing and so on.

Ethanol and petrol are the same safety wise, both vaporise at normal temperatures and both are as flammable as each other. Pure ethanol can run a petrol engine if the carb is set up for it.

I received this today, and had to disassemble it in order to get it flowing; I was able to get it to flow, but I had to tighten up the brass fitting near the valve... be careful when you remove the fuel tank, for there's still alcohol in the fuel line. Just open the valve, and the fuel line will drain. If you have a funnel, have the alcohol flow back into your storage bottle... Oh, if you don't want to carry a funnel, get a Trangia fuel bottle; they come in 3 sizes (350ml, 500ml, 1L), and they're easy to fill that tank using that bottle!

You might/could repurpose a large juice, soup, or coffee can but then you would, of course, have to use tin-snips to cut a virticle slit into the can and knock down the sharp edges with some sand paper. If that wont work, I'm thinking the stove/chimney pipe section of a home-center store should have something that would also do the job.

I'd be curious to see how long it will run on a single tank. That's the main problem (besides wind) with Trangia-type stoves is that they burn up a lot of alcohol for the amount of time they burn. Hopefully, with the valve, this thing will be more fuel efficient.
@Iridium242
@Iridium242 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I plan on doing a test to see how long it runs, I was thinking of cooking an entire meal on it and seeing if it can last long enough for a whole meal. It seems to not burn a ton, in this video alone, it hardly used any when I drained the tank and put it back in the bottle but it was just from eyeballing it, I didn't measure it out
