I taped this on VHS when I was 16! It was like taping a live B-side. I'm still enthralled with it and that transition into that's the way I like it. Bless the 90's

I remember seeing this live or the first time it aired on MTV to be more precise. I wasn't a huge Liz Phair fan, but I really did like the way she did that's the way. I was really more into the headcoats and the new bomb Turks at that time. The supersuckers hadn't been high yet. Damn there was a lot of good music in the 90s. Maybe not quite K. C.s. version, but I will never forget it, and here it is all these years later. Thanks for posting it .

I saw Liz open for The Coctails in 1992 at The Bop Shop on Division. She was trying out her new songs - soon to become "Exile...." Great stuff.

I saw Liz at the TLA in Philly last week. For her encore she opened with a few lines of "That's the way...". But not an acoustic guitar in sight. She rocked it pretty hard. Great concert, too.

Amazing, catching her at that young age were most musicians are just starting to explode with ideas. And the lyrics that she adds to That's the Way are so sexy, she is just dripping sexuality.

I remember seeing this when it was new. At the end of this song as they were going into a commercial break, she had a tickle fight on the bed with that undeserving little bastard. I always thought she made this song up for the show as she was singing it , but she already had this in her repertoire. She is so awesome.

Yeah I saw this when it first aired as well. Thought a lot of the same things. Wasn't a really big fan of hers at the time supernova and stuff was out. She got kind of lumped in with Alanis Morissette and the other female solo artist stem broke out around that time. This short performance still always stuck with me and made me respect what she was doing. I love this simplicity of the music coupled with the deepness of both songs. Super cool way to do that's the way I like it.

In the olden days, rock music comes "anything goes". That's why you can make something out of just anything you had in mind or hear. But with the advent of pop rock and musicians/ singers like Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne, Paramore, Amy Lee, and others, Rock Music became a bit standardized and mainstream. ...Today, Rock, as with other styles have been receiving more critics: music tonality and fad, in contrast with essence and relevance to social realism. Gone are days of music simplicity.
