Liza Minelli is so incredible.She was so around New York City when I was a kid.We went to see her in "The Act" and then saw her several times on the street and we'd say hello and she'd ALWAYS say "Hi,guys! What're ya doin?" My parents loved her and we did too.God Bless her talent always!

I, literally, grew up on the Liza with a Z soundtrack. The moment my mother pulled out of the driveway on her errands, I'd have that soundtrack blasting. I would perform that show over and over to my front window. I can't tell you for how many years I did that. Thank you, Ms Minnelli. You made me a star in my own mind.

I was hanging out in the lobby of the Ziegfeld Theater in NYC in early summer 1987 at a pre-release screening of a film called "The Believers," waiting to buy popcorn. My fellow students were seated waiting for the film to start. She was dressed in black pants and a shirt and looked great. In NYC, you don't bother celebs if you run into them. But the vibe she gave off was just a genuinely nice person waiting for someone to join her.

Anyone who has any interest in sheer talent and decades of performances HAS to celebrate Ms. Minelli's artistry. Does she has Momma's technical voice talent? Maybe not, as Judy Garland was a once in a lifetime angel who enriched our lives with her "pipes". BUT, Ms. Minelli -- without question in her many stage performances -- is at the very least equal to Judy. Sheer, unquestionable joy, as Ms. Minelli has a genius for creating a narrative/character. And all of the "Minelli-community" are blessed to be nourished even to this day for all she has given us.

However, Lesa started singing with her mother when she was just a tiny little tot. She appeared in the 2022 Oscars along with Lady Gaga. One of my favorite songs she did was “Ring Them Bells”.

My take is different. A great friend surprised me with tickets to see her concert/show live. Okay, okay, until she gets to this number Ring Them Bells. She's in loud voice, and Halston tights, to make her legs look proportionate. She's dancing around and towards the end of the song she does a series of high kicks, high high-kicks. As a show dancer, I know how difficult it can be to do a series of those Rockette kicks. THEY have to hold on to each other, you need more air that usual. Liza with a Z does those high kicks for all she's worth, taking in extra air while simultaneously blowing out extra song. And her voice never quavers. Loud as ever. She's amazing. No extra air needed by this girl. It ain't fittin, Mammy says. It just ain't fittin. Not with me, either, Mammy. Years later, in New York, in The New York Times, it was revealed that her live Broadway performances are "helped along" with recordings played over the Sound System. It must be said that one impact Miss Minnelli had on Broadway, is that she took the standard $18.75 best orchestra seat tickets, raised them for "The Act," charging $25 per ticket. All things considered, THAT was a big jump. She sent prices for Broadway shows to a new level. I saw the show, a supper-club-on-a-boat thingy, with little scenery And Liza with no understudy (she was known to miss performances). "The Act" was all an act. For these gouged prices, the audience got ......a tape recording. Tacky. Do you think Mama's fans ever got less than authentic Judy Garland? Think again. That lady was a pro?
@DoubleDogDare545 жыл бұрын
The inspiration for this song sounds far-fetched but a few years ago there was a story in the news about a gal who got tired of the bar scene and decided to try her luck with the online dating services instead. She started looking all the guys' photos over and suddenly hit one that really appealed to her. Not knowing where he lived - figuring he lived a thousand miles away or more - she dropped him an email outlining her interest in him. To her surprise he responded almost immediately to her. They started "chatting" electronically. She then mentioned she lived in Des Moines. Where was he located? Des Moines. Really? What side of town? West side. Me, too. Are you close to the (whatever) apartment complex? Sure am, I know right where that is. Cool! How close are you, anyway? I live there. No kidding? Wow! What building? Building B. ..........uh, me, too.........what floor? Fourth floor. You're joking! What's your apartment number? 414. I don't believe it............I'm 412! With that she knocked on the wall between the apartments. He knocked back. They then both opened the doors to the hallway and, yep, they lived right next door to each other. They had actually been living next door to each other for years but because they worked different shifts they had never even seen each other. Upshot of the email exchange was they eventually were happily married. True story.
