one of my favorite movies. from the time I was 4. (I'm an adult..30something now.) I danced with this in my living room for years. I had the whole movie memorized. and it still makes me so happy. I hope Liza sticks around a while. I really need to thank her one of these days...

Always always have loved this scene. Love the song, the choreography, was a huge fan of Judy Garland and this was one of the first movies with Liza my mom showed me as a little girl.

Bob Fosse was a genius at creating razor sharp body moves in dim lighting that created an illusion that a dancer was much better than they actually were, and Danny Daniels re creates that sexy, energetic vibe here. His talent to do this was a gift to great stars, including his wife Gwen Verdon, who were no longer as young as they once were. And of course to Michael Jackson who was a terrific mover but not a trained dancer. Liza Minnelli has never looked as good before, even in her TV special Liza With A Z. So why haven't we seen her like this before?

The mind boggles! This is her greatest dance 'number' ( I hate that word but whatever). I'm pretty sure that Liza always wanted to work harder as a dancer after being pigeonholed with great fame at such an early age. She's 45 here and at her absolute best. This solo performance is absolutely incredible!!!

Michael Jackson didn't rip anyone off really. His choreographers, like many, many others, ripped off Bob Fosse. The hat, the busy arms, the snappy head moves, and the hair that moves with it, and clever kicks that weren't very high, were all Fosse. Danny Daniels who did this choreography, did the same here because it worked brilliantly for stars who were great movers and good, but not great, dancers. Bob Fosse's dazzling style came from being a physically limited one himself. He had no ballet training, which is why Gene Kelly, for example was so versatile. Ballet training. But it all looks great right?? And in show biz that's all that matters.

Many compare Liza very unfairly to her mother. I think Judy had a great voice, and in that portion of things the balance tipped in her favour… but did you ever see Judy Garland do anything like this?! Liza was a fantastic performer, such a natural dancer… this and Mein Herr stick in my memory.
