Agreed, it feels very edited and unnatural with only snippets of Taylor’s dialogue from the interview inserted between narration by CBS - they constructed it the way they wanna portray it which made her out to seem stubborn and opinionated - definitely doesn’t feel like a completely genuine representation of Taylor compared to other interviews she’s done

It'll be a long process but to gain the rights back she doesn't really have a choice. Anyone streaming/buying albums of hers that aren't Lover at the moment, the money is going to Big Machine Records. She's no longer a part of this company, she's with Republic Records now so she has more control over her own music.

@@LizaBella2 who buys decade old albums anyway? Itune store is about to close to focus 100% on apple music streaming subscriptions and soon all record stores will follow. We are in the era of licensed music ubiquity (on-demand services renting music instead of selling to consumers) It's probably more symbolic than anything else but it's not making business sense to buyback or else she could have bought another recording/publishing company and got into this business then offer a merger or purchase BMLG through her business or do a partnership with another big shot record executive. She still gets publishing rights on those records. And usually she would also have a right to accept or reject uses of her recordings if she is listed as a songwriter. Publishing is way bigger, it's streaming royalties, royalties when a song is used in commercials, radio airplay, etc. Everything BUT raw recording sales. but songwriters still get an automatic amount of the records purchases fees that goes to PRO's like BMI/ASCAP/SESAC. Because you don't own it all doesn't mean you don't profit from it or aren't a stakeholder. Her dad also has shares in BMLG. All they can do with the recordings is put her songs on compilation albums. It's like major labels have I think 30% shares in Spotify, they don't own it but they have a lot of say and control on the platform. Music industry is a collaborative group effort, wanting to have 100% of anything is impossible. Even for "independent" artists like Chance the rapper. Usually it's always better to get leverage by having people invest in your project and giving them a share of profits so that a lot of people are incentivized to help you and have you succeed. If you buy a restaurant one of the best move is to give the restaurant manager a share of 5-20% this way you can do other businesses and trust they will do what's in the best interest of your own business. Otherwise they may cut deals that don't favor you when you're not looking. When they have stakes in the fight they work harder and smarter for you. For all the reasons above i think this drama is manufactured to put public pressure and sell her new album. Even the timing and her Tumblr post were clear album promotion if it's not clear enough it said at the bottom the name and release date of her new record. It was simply a stunt to plug her album after this Tumblr post everyone in the industry or following gossips knew her release date and it cost her 0$ of advertising to get million dollars worth of promotion
