I built some of the models from the old MCP starter set last year. They looked nice once built and painted up nicely but several of them were horrible to build, fiddly and with unnecessarily small parts. Hopefully the new sculpts in this set are more pleasant to build!

I know your comment is months old now, but yes, they have improved considerably in terms of miniature builds. Recent releases have been great, and I'm actually impressed with how seamlessly they fit together. The one thing you have to get used to is the very fine detail. Coming from Warhammer, the 'extrusion' (I guess you call it) of detail is considerbly more exaggerated in GW models. Eg: A belt sticks out more from the waist. Not a complaint, proportions suit these marvel models well, just something to adjust to.

I know that Warhammer comes with more models but you not only get starting models, tokens, and tools, but you also get a full set of terrain for half the price. Come on GW.

I appreciate the mutant comments. X-men are my favorite so big question was do I need this set or can I just buy my x-men and brotherhood to vs them without the set. Looks like the answer is need the core set then go and pick up the mutants.

You know, back in the day Marvel published both Transformers and GI Joe comics, also Masters of the Universe. Would be funny if they were folded in similar to what they did with Conan and the Hyborean era. Selene is from then.

Technically Spidey is a mutant. He'd have become a mutant, however the spider bite that mutated him overrode it and made him a mutate. Most of the mutates by today's lore would have become mutants, however the mutate process overrode that mutable gene.

If you want to play I wouldn't bother with a diorama as the scenery is all interactive and a huge mechanic in the game. There's also an x-men affiliation box with cyclops, storm, beast and wolverine included. The brotherhood box is better tho!

They've got X-Men characters in expansion packs which are some nice sculpts but i've seen some nicer ones on some STL sites :)

So here is my critique from an average fans perspective. The models should be assembled and painted. The idea that I have to assemble them and then also paint them is not appealing at all. I am concerned about power scaling and Marvel pushing characters just to make money. Something like this. You must get this version of Spiderman, and that version of Thor because they are the best in the game. Those pieces go for say $100. So then if you don't have the best piece you are at a real disadvantage. Now the quality of the parts given looks very good, minus that you have to build them yourself and must buy paint, snips, brushes, glue etc just to play the game.

It’s a miniature war game my man. The modeling and painting is a massive part of the hobby. Most people paint more than they play!

@@LizardofDoom I get it but I would also argue that there are a ton of other games similar to this one then. If they came out with already assembled models and it was balanced well with no "chase models" then that would interest more people. The thought of buying a starter set for a Christmas present comes to mind. A complete set ready to play against a complete set of villains. Now? That won't happen because in addition to the models, paints need to be bought, and then clipping tools etc and of course glue. Then it is the time to assemble all this BEFORE you play. Again there are already games like that on the market. I get that a very small minority of people want to paint spiderman's costume, but wow you are limiting you game.
