The UV is much different now than it was. Indrect sun will take longer to tan, but once you have a little more color then you can increase exposure. My neighbor just passed and had skin cancer cut from him a few times before he died. Please take of your skin if you don't want that Florida leather skin damage. Sorry for the Daren moment.

I've had skin cancer and appreciate your concern. We were at the lake and she wanted some vitamin D.

What is the point? Painting the tank black only makes it pick up more heat.
@theMTNman Жыл бұрын
That is the point. You might want to watch the entire series. LizardSkin advertises that it will reduce the temperature and or block heat transfer on a variety of substrates and applications. We are blacking the truck out and didn't want the fuel to experience a significant increase in temp over the polished tank, so we applied LizardSkin ceramic insulation and we are testing it to see if it lives up to their claims. It appears to provide a significant reduction in heat transfer and I don't think we need to worry about having overheated fuel even during hot sunny days.

@@theMTNman That is not how it works.

Maybe we are confused, how is it supposed to work?
@heresteven Жыл бұрын
@@theMTNman It is just insulation. It slows the movement of heat through the material. Adding more insulation or coating will slow down the heat more. Painting the tank black made the surface pick up a lot of heat. Black an efficient color to absorb heat. And the black coating is just putting that heat into the cooler diesel. And when the outside cools down, the heat inside the tank has a hard time getting rid of the heat because of the insulation.
@theMTNman Жыл бұрын
Maybe we should devise another test based on your theory. We performed additional tests that will be posted soon and it appears adding black to the tank only increased the temperature 0.5 degrees and without the insulation you would expect a significant increase in temperature after painting the tanks black. The manufacturer actually suggested the test be performed in the manner that we conducted them (many people use laser thermometers and check surface temp). They have a commercial division that supplies coatings for oil/fuel holding tanks in the desert. Seems like the diesel would take longer to heat up as well, so wouldn't that offset the time to cool off? So do you think the average temp of the diesel would be lower if we painted the tanks black and skipped the LizardSkin?

There is a reason that tank is a shiny silver color, keeps the diesel cooler!

Yep and I'm trying to create a better mousetrap to achieve a particular look. Spent a lot of time researching this process and discussing it with the manufacturers, and so far it's performing well.

Wouldn't it be a more valid test if you used a thermometer to check the temperature of the liquid inside the tanks? The tank itself will heat up in the sunlight. Is that temerature getting through to the fuel? Please get a thermometer. You are concerned about the fuel temp, not the outside of the tank.
@theMTNmanАй бұрын
You might have a valid point. There was a thermometer in the tank, but it was only checking the ambient temperature. I figured if the ambient temperature would correlate with the fuel temperature.

Looks good, i need to put something on my hot ass camper truck and regular paint doesn't do shit. This might be the best stuff available.

Your application is more what it was intended for. I think they make it in white too which should be even cooler. I spent a lot of time discussing this project with the manufacturers and so far I have been satisfied. We just took a trip out west in 100+ temps and the truck ran flawlessly.

Its not for the outside. You bought the wrong stuff . Black attracts heat ... you would out that on the inside of a van or container

I'm not trying to be rude, so please don't be offended, but it would be helpful if you watched and LISTENED to the entire series I posted on LizardSkin prior to commenting. I collaborated with the manufacturer on this series and application. In short, we used LizardSkin because we wanted to black the truck out and we knew black attracts heat. We were committed to black tanks and wanted a layer of insulation to reduce the heat transfer to the fuel. This product is used on fuel storage tanks in the desert to prevent heat transfer. Thanks for watching and please consider subscribing.

@@theMTNman for what you're doing id have gone with white to reflect the heat they do sell white thermal paint . I know why they make water tanks black . Buy the large fuel containers are white so are the trucks
