Yeah I stopped judging now because it’s easier to watch a movie that way lol. If a movie came out in 1997 then I will just have to watch it with 1997 eyes but if a movie turns out to be more progressive than I thought, that will be a plus for me

I've been on both sides. While I carry my weight proportionally, its not even about how I look. Its how I feel. Carrying extra weight does not me feel happy. Why? Because my body is speaking this is too much for you. I recall when Monique used to speak about her body confidence. The reality is she was unhealthy and that motivated her to change. Just be honest within and allow change to occur from that place.

that's not a fair assessment. im comfortable in my black skin but when i see something that perpetuate negative stereotypes about my people i have the right to feel away and speak on it. like that movie blackfishing movie about the dj pretending to be a black lady, the blacksents on tick tock and everywhere else. does that make me not happy in my skin because i find a problem with stuff like that? you can be big and happy in your body but still find things offensive. offense is based off one's personal experience. what you might care about, another won't. we cant equate that to personal happiness because it varies from person to person. i will never know what its like to be picked on for being big and all the jokes that come with that, but i can relate to short jokes or black jokes. i like being short and black but i can still call it out when i feel a type of way when i see it being negatively portrayed based on my personal experiences.but that does not mean my personal happiness is diminished once i call it out.

She brings it all on herself! 🤔 If Lizzo is so happy and confident with her body then WHY is she so bothered in 2022 by a movie that came out 26 years ago? She was only 7 years old. That tells me that she's lying about her situation. If Lizzo would focus more on her talent and getting physically and mentally healthier instead of all of her shenanigans, then people wouldn't have anything to talk about. She loves the attention but not the negative opinions of some which comes along with it.

I stop taking Lizzo seriously & started giving her the side eye when she showed up to that basketball game with her ass literally out🙄. That confirmed for me that she is an attention seeker, willing to do the most to have her name trending. Also notice a tactic she uses to help promote things. She'll rant or cry about a serious topic on social media regarding weight or mental health. Then shortly afterwards she's promoting a product. Then radio silence. So don't be surprised if she's suddenly promoting something 🤨

My self esteem has been the worst it’s ever been since the weight gain, but to be this damn sensitive is ridiculous to me. The whole movie is about a man being teased so bad that he takes a potion to change himself. The audience is supposed to feel emotion. That’s purpose of a movie is too make people feel something whether it’s to cry, laugh, feel happy or sad. That what makes a good movie. So you mean to tell me while Dave Chappelle is ripping Mr. Klump to shreds in the comedy club, you didn’t feel sorry for him? So why are you saying Lizzo needs therapy when she responding to a movie that causes the audience to feel a range of emotions? A good writer wants people to feel that emotion. That’s the whole point of the movie. And she probably watched this when she was younger at a different point in her life. Lizzo can’t win. If she says she confident. People say she’s lying or promoting bad health or needing attention. If she says she felt sad, you’re saying she needs therapy. she a human being that can feel the full range of emotions that human beings feel. She doesn’t not have to super confident all the time. And that’s mean she needs therapy. A person can be happy with who they are and feel sad sometimes. That’s just life. Your comment still shows how far we need to go to allow people of all sizes be fully human. Lizzo has never said that in order to be body positive, you have to 100% confident have no sad feelings at all. The bottom line is that this culture still can’t accept that an overweight women in pop music, who doesn’t fit into the ideal body size, and if that woman is vulnerable and shows the slightest hint of sadness, now she’s a hypocrite who needs therapy. This says more about our culture than it does about Lizzo.

You can’t do what they do, Just play that flute” She wants to show representation in an industry that is deeply biased towards plus size women..But little does she know, she surpasses most of these artists in beauty and talent so her tactics are unwarranted 💐She has insecurities that we all have in some form. Big fat is a complex issue. Even if you embrace your body, you still know that most people out there don't consider you beautiful, that they judge you and disrespect you, and feel that they are completely right about it! So even when you learn to love the unperfect body you have, there is a part of you that does not get over all the hurt you felt up until the point you started to change your view on this issue. I completely understand what she was saying, it has nothing to do with the fact that she doesn't appreciate herself now, it's past hurt that (regardless if you still believe in it or not), is still there.

Lizzo was asked this specific question: What are some examples of stereotypes that you remember watching that were harmful to you growing up. Lizzo shared her experience. So before going in on Lizzo I would suggest people read the interview first. The interview was mostly about her upcoming show. The interviewer asked about a particular scene which lead into that question. She never said we shouldn’t laugh nor did she criticize those laughing. She simply shared her experience. I love this show but please get informed about the topics you discuss. This commentary makes it appear that Lizzo was criticizing Eddie Murphy & the movie & comedy. That was not the case.

A lot of things are ”television, film, and comedy,” (black face for example...I digress) however I can't be pretend like it's super baffling that someone who bares the brunt of being the butt of the joke, feels some type of way. We always talk about how the portrayals of screen can have a real world negative side effect on us...so I would be a hypocrite to tell her, she just needs to get over her, or don't be so sensitive, it’s just a joke. I know what it's like to be an extremely dark skinned male, and treated some kind of way because of some joke, or attitude displayed in ”film, tv, and comedy,” that didn't feel good back then either.

Maybe she was having a bad day. She’s allowed to have bad days. I don’t see her as being 100% confident. I see her trying to love herself in a world that tells her she shouldn’t. And that’s a hard thing to do and some days she will fail. I do think there’s too much weight talk but then again we never had someone boldly claim and love their body like she has. She has a new show coming out about finding a plus size dancer for her tour or something like that so maybe that’s what the weight talk is about. I look at someone like Adele. She never made an issue about her weight. She never spoke about it and she said she never idolized someone bc of their weight. I think ppl want Lizzo to be like that to be more quiet about it. I don’t think she’s all the way confident but she doesn’t have to be and I like that she’s pissing people off and being loud. It’s not for me but I like it bc I know it’s for somebody.

I googled the interview she did with Variety and I read it in it’s entirety. Because of that I will say the caption and commentary is misleading to viewers. I think it’s important to get CONTEXT. Lizzo was asked this specific question: What are some examples of stereotypes that you remember watching that were harmful to you growing up. Lizzo shared her experience. So before going in on Lizzo I would suggest people read the interview first.

She didn't say she still hides food. She said she DID. It's not irritating and she's not being too sensitive. And if she still cries, so what. She has been hurt deeply and for a long time around her weight Those feelings and hurts do not go away just because you want them to. You've heard of triggers, right? Also, remember, what really got her started talking about her weight was after Jillian Michaels went on a tirade about her out of the blue. And she hadn't said or done anything to deserve that. So let her talk about being fat. You don't break stereotypes and normalize natural things by not talking about them.

i love Tea gif but they were tone deaf on this topic. yes, its comedy, but its at the expense of the character being FAT.the same as when growing up everyone would find comic relief in picking on the overweight kid(s). lets not act like most of what we grew up on isn't problematic, we just refuse to say it because we then think we have to cancel it or w.e. Fat shaming happens in movies all the time and to ALs point madea isn't really fat shaming the suit is to make his body more grandma ish with the titties and stuff, but it does play more to the ghetto, hood, improper speech in and out of jail black stereotypes but they do throw in fat jokes as well. the character's appearance in a movie is the bases of the personality. so if we go see a comedy where the main character is fat 10/10 most of the jokes will be centered around their weight, eating habits, clothes (panties the size of a blanket). lets not act dumb.

So...this is why I don't like remembering stuff, because arguments like this don't make any sense. Q, you sat up here and told us that you didn't have time for ol'boy because he not only tried to tell you how to feel, but that he said that he didn't believe you about your depression. What if he told you, "I thought you were happy with your lifestyle, isn't that what you said on KZbin." That you need to "pick an emotional state and stick with it for 12 months straight?" Al and Claudia you have both sat here and told us how the media and Hollywood push narratives through the tv screen that have had negative consequences on Black folks and is integral in how the world sees us, but now all of sudden it's just jokes, and soon we can't say anything. In this case it had nothing to do with anyone saying anything, she was talking about she felt, it's not an attack on you. What is it that you believe is so Horrible about Big People that makes you feel like it's an attack on you? People can say what they want, but other people don't have to agree with you, and if you want this Global audience, and are constantly pushing for more people to watch you, you have to accept the fact that people may have contrasting ideas, and that sometimes those ideas can be valid, and not just when they are coming from you. At the end of the day someone talking about their feelings somehow felt like an assault on you...the question is why? She talked about her take on something that happened to her, isn't that what y'all do everyday, and the very thing you say people shouldn't get mad at you for. We get it, you don't think Lizzo looks good, so any form of positivity she feels about herself Must be put on, and false...and if she ever expresses a negative viewpoint, specifically about her Body, that's how she must actually feel...Let it Go. Maybe if she paid y'all to spotlight her moments of positivity, like How Nissan paid y'all to spotlight A single moment of Positive Black History for the month of February, then maybe some nuance and Grace could be found her right?

Oh Lizzo, here we go again. The first time I saw her perform was when she pulled out that flute and confidently showed it who was boss. I was an instant fan. She shined on that stage and owned it and it was magic. We knew she was a big girl but it wasn't an issue until she made it one. Once she started to pull those attention getting stunts, she made everyone pay more attention to her outlandishment than her actual talent. I don't care if she wants to wear a see through dress, just tell your designer to cut a pattern that looks right for your body type and add a stronger type of marterial to hold those two missiles in place. Not make you look like you borrowed your nieces princess veil and wrapped it loosely around you while naked.

So if a person is confident it means this person is confident all day every day? If someone says they lobe being a man, woman, black, white, curvy, skinny...to support your community or just because they are practicing down days all of a sudden NOTHING can make them feel small? So comments about people on KZbin don't hurt because they signed up for it, right? She is being human and she shows people that loving yourself and being insecure can be true at the same time. People are out here screaming hot girl summer or loving their single live but come Valentine's day, lonely days or winter time they be out here crying, feeling alone or telling everybody how they would love to have a partner.
