LL in my opinion that was the first great TOTAL PACKAGE MC that had that huge mainstream impact. LL had the lyrical ability, street cred, diverse fanbase, and numbers to back it up. KRS, Kane, G Rap, Rakim, and Slick Rick in that era were considered more skilled MC's by many. BUT LL was still a very skilled MC himself. And the KEY WAS LL was THE ONE who was the best total package! Hov, BIG, Pac, Kendrick, Wayne, etc. are also great total packages. But LL was the ORIGINAL in my opinion. When these type of MC's are at their peak, they are among the biggest stars in MUSIC in general. Not just hip-hop!!

That's what made LL unique from his iconic peers in Rakim, KRS, Kane, G Rap, and Slick Rick. All six of these legends were SKILLED MC's in general. But LL was the BEST TOTAL PACKAGE! He had more adaptability that the other legends I named. He had mainstream impact they never had. ALL THE WHILE keeping his top notch lyricism and street cred. He was smart to drop party cuts or cuts for the ladies that would do well mainstream wise. It simply gave him a balance that NO OTHER MC had at the time. LL was AHEAD of the game. He was really the first skilled MC to have the EPIC LONGEVITY of being relevant for over a decade! Now it's more common. But LL was really the first one to be on that shit!
