This long-awaited day has finally arrived. SHEARING DAY!!!
We considered shearing ourselves, but this would not have ended so well… Today, you will get to know our herd of camelids (llamas and alpacas). You will also meet Katie and Darian McRose. Katie and Darian are from our same region in Central Texas; they are world renowned in the shearing community and well known by owners of wool-bearing animals for their caring, animal-first approach. At one time, they traveled and sheared animals throughout 8 States in the US. Today, Katie shared, they are focused on Texas and spend most of their time with repeat, priority customers, when they are not teaching classes and traveling the world to educate people and contribute to the advancement of their industry. I was absolutely thrilled when they agreed to bring us onto their client roster.
When you see Darian and Katie in action today, you will see why we were so happy to put our llamas and alpacas in their care. Our animals were at ease, comfortable, and all made it through without excessive stress or injury. All llamas and alpacas were shorn (also an appropriate past-tense word for shear/shearing/sheared). They also received a dose of Ivermectin to help kill parasites, the number one killer of llamas and alpacas. All hooves were trimmed and teeth were inspected. We did not trim teeth today. Join us again when Katie and Darian return to trim John Wayne and Coco’s teeth in June. This should be interesting!
Katie and Darian have an AWESOME KZbin channel. I highly encourage you to check them out @RightChoiceShearing. You will see how hard these ladies work, and how they make something so complex and challenging appear to be so easy.
Today, as I publish this episode, we are nearly one month post shearing day. The llamas and alpacas are nice and cool, and ready for summer. They were noticeably happier and more active a few days after they received their fancy hoof trimming, their Ivermectin, and their snazzy summer cuts. You will see much more of our llamas and alpacas in upcoming videos.
