Llanidloes, a small market town in Powys, Mid Wales, is our favourite place to live. It is the first town on the River Severn, and often referred to as “a small town at the heart of Wales.”
As a destination Llanidloes offers visitors and locals alike the opportunity to dip into a rich history, to explore some beautiful surrounding countryside, and to join in a vibrant social and cultural life.
As a community Llanidloes thrives, a combination of fiercely loyal locals and incomers, most of whom will fight to the bitter end for what they believe is right for their beloved town.
And as our home - which Llanidloes has been now for almost 30 years and counting - it provides the permanent backdrop for all the highs and lows of life’s many adventures.
As the Llanidloes town website says on its home page: “be warned, the place is dangerously addictive! You may never want to leave!”
The video footage was filmed between October 2018 - February 2019. As well as the town of Llanidloes itself it features the Llyn Clywedog reservoir, Hafren Forest, and the hills above the River Severn near Llandinam - all just a short distance from Llanidloes.

A wonderful advert for the town

Yes it is a beautiful advert for the town except for the last minute, with a forest of industrial wind turbines desecrating the countryside. That certainly dampened my desire to visit, in fact it deters me. I find it rather interesting, symbolic that the long section dedicated to walking through an industrial wind turbine site began with a skull.

It's a beautiful town in a glorious setting but surrounding it with outdated, inefficient renewable technology has scarred it for decades to come. Oh, and the sun doesn't always shine.

Those windmills or whatever they call them, destroy the landscape of wherever they're put. I hated to see them go up along a coastline in Hawaii. They're killing the whales in the US Northeast. They are just ugly and inefficient. They'll be tearing them down within 10 years because the rust, and they're killing the birds. There, I had my say!
