Hello Paul - that was a lovely video. What an incredible site. How beautiful, peaceful and tranquil. If only those ruins could talk. What a story they could tell.

Thank you Michael. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I know that it is a bit of a cliché to say, but you really could feel the history around you. A fascintating and peaceful location. I felt priviliged to have explored it. Take care, Paul.

I think the films without face to camera comment, forces one to examine the whole scene rather than concentrating on the 'talking head'. The old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words comes to mind. Paul, I know that you concentrating on your filming, gives you peace of mind. After watching this, I too feel wonderfully relaxed. Thankyou.

Thanks John! Glad you enjoyed it - yes, I really didn't think it needed me in it! Didn't want to ruin the atmosphere. Thanks so much, it is a lovely historic location. Take care, Paul.

Nicely put together Paul. A place I have been meaning to visit for a while. You captured the area and sense of the priory itself perfectly. 👌🏻

Thank you Watto! Glad you enjoyed it. It is a fantastic place to visit - and there is another Abbey just up the road to! Linked to Llanthony Secunda Priory in Gloucester of course, which I remember you doing a great video about a little while ago. Take care, Paul 👍🙂

Well, that was a great video, Paul! Any minute, I was expecting you to fade in! But that wasn't necessary! Lovely place very spiritual I would imagine! And the crooked church! Great use of music ,too!

Thank you Louise! Glad you enjoyed it. Very kind comments. I really enjoyed my visit here courtesy of my aunt and her partner. I had not been in the Black Mountains since a school trip in the very early 1980s. A super place. I hope to explore more of Herefordshire which lies just over the Welsh border, around the Golden Valley area, as it contains loads more 'hidden' gems. Thanks so much! Paul.

This was so pleasant to watch, thank you for taking us around and sharing its history with us. Loved your photos too - really liked how you used the buildings to frame some of the shots of the surrounding areas!

Thank you Jesse! Glad you enjoyed it. It is a super place, but rather difficult to get to, and on this occasion I was glad that I was not driving! Hence the note to my relatives Andrea and John at the end. Very narrow lanes. But, wonderful! Thanks so much, take care, Paul.

Great to see you in the Vale of Ewyas Paul. It has to be one of the most enchanting valleys on the whole of the borders. I can see it from home. The priory is always a treat but I have an affection for Cwmyoy Church. It's even more evocative I feel. Well, the views we never tire of. Fantastic. All the best as always. Mark

Thank you Mark! Yes, a very rare foray abroad for this one, although just across the border from Herefordshire. It is indeed a lovely area - my first time here since the 1970s when I was walking The Black Mountains for a school trip. I had not heard of Cwmyoy before - and it was my auntie that took me there. It has a most disorentating feeling when you enter it! Like you are on a ship that is listing. Incredible, but beautiful spot. Thanks so much, Cheers, Paul

My husband can't stand wonky pictures so that wonky window would drive him crazy. The ruined priory is in such a beautiful setting, so glad the church next door is still in use.
@westcountrywanderings Жыл бұрын
It was a very unsettling feeling walking into that church Faith! Not only is the wall and window warped out of shape, so is the floor! I know exactly what your husband means by wonky pictures. I try to take them straight (I have a spirit level on the outside of my camera, and a green balance bar in the viewfinder) using the camera - even if I get it wrong, I try and straighten it in the edit - impossible here! It is a most disconcerting feeling. Thanks again, Paul.

Hi Paul, a truly great composition of images and music with just the right ammount of text to provide the context, really enjoyed it, well done. I think John Timbrell's comment sums it up perfectly. I loved the crooked church, although it almost seems wrong to call a church crooked!! I expect those buttresses are working hard to keep it up. The lawns around the priory looked recently cut and I was just wondering why when you explained, or indicated, that it was now also a hotel!! Great place to stay I imagine. When I look at these ancient buildings I often start to think about how they went about designing and building them, it would be a major project these days, but today we have all the knowledge to go about it at our fingertips, not quite so easy without paper (they didn't even have the back of a packet of fags!!) or a calculator. On this theme Gaudi designed his cathedral The Sagrada Family in Barcelona by suspending weights on pieces of string, this provided him with an inverted structure, but still he was working in the early 20th century. I digress!!! Have a great week!!

Hi David - it is indeed incredible how buildings like this were designed and built all those 100s of years ago without all of the aids we have today. Yes, without those buttresses that church would have collapsed a long time ago. It is built on a landslip site! Quite a geological feature. It is most disconcerting when you first step into the church because the floor goes one way, that window another and the tower in yet another different direction! I did hear that it leans more than the Leaning Tower of Pisa! Thanks so much for another great comment David - always lovely to hear from you. Just off out on another wander - better go, train to catch! Take care, Paul
