I think the GCam Mod on the Zenfone 9 is an amazing improvement in terms of colour reproduction and fixing the awful oversharpening of the native camera app (especially noticeable at 6:10). I'm really interested in the Zenfone 9 because of the small form factor but I also value the camera very highly. The GCam Mod might be the one thing "sealing the deal" for me.

I've been watching your zenfone 9 reviews with great interest. Really useful for those considering the Asus phone. I've now subscribed because your content is pretty good. I'm desperate to replace my Samsung S8 and thought the zenfone 9 would be the answer. Unfortunately its shortcomings (camera issues, lack of telephoto, reportedly slow software improvements, limited software upgrades and overheating) have really put me off. Are my concerns fair? I think i heard or read that in RAW mode the Zen 9 produces excellent images, which proves it's just software which is letting it down. However, i just can't be doing with shooting in RAW and then having to convert everything. Is it possible for you to compare the zenfone 9 with an s22 (I believe it has a true optical 3x lens)?

The telephoto gives the Xperia an unfair advantage, but I'm happy with my choice anyway. Prefer the more compact Asus, and the GCam at least lets it trade blows with Sony's processing. How's the temperature and battery life on the Xperia?
@lltechview2 жыл бұрын
temperature is lower on the Zenfone 9. Throttling is on par but the Zenfone 9 is definitely faster (in benchmarks). Interestingly enough the Sony can hold a constant framerate in games and temperature where the Asus jumps a bit around. Battery life the Sony wins because of its larger battery life. I will do a more detailed comparison that will come out pretty soon talking about the major differences and which one is the winner overall.

I'm looking into an upgrade from my Xperia 5 II to something... Maybe not precisely newer, but with less issue. From the beginning its fingerprint scanner is mostly a miss (something like 30/70 hit'n'miss) and it overall lacks a bit o polish. I really miss modern LG phones -_- And now, after dragging the 12 OS update, it seems Sony will just abandon this phone. So it seems they will keep the same attitude in the future as they had in the past (anyone 'mebers X Compact? :D) I like the Photo Pro app. I've been updating it via 'external' installations as Sony doesn't give a toss about porting those to older phones. But my usage is occasional. I like to snap some city lines at very early or very late doggo-walks where the light becomes interesting. So it seems that for better pictures I would have to go for a worse phone, Xperia. But how worse is that? Really? Or maybe, is Zen a better daily driver? And no. No Szajsung. And no Chinese brand. Just, no. ;)

@@lltechview I'm pretty sure there's no Gcam version that works 100% on any Xperia device, which is a huge shame and the reason why I'm not crazy about Xperias anymore. If you can, instead of trying out different random versions, try using versions that worked on past Xperias (II and III series) even partially and go into their settings to change the phone model from "Auto" to "Sony". I don't know whether or not you've been doing this all this time but in theory it might help. Also as far as I know there's a Gcam Telegram chat that might be able to help and provide information that's much needed for people interested in Xperias. I haven't found a definitive, certain answer as to if and to what extent Gcam works on Xperias, specifically IIs, IIIs and IVs and it would be HUGE if someone finally explored that combo.

G cam quality lose out to Sony own camera software already. Its proven on a Taiwanese website e-price. The person just used basic mode and and trashed G cam. So Sony is smart enough not to let users install G cam but utilize their underrated photo pro application.
@anecro2 жыл бұрын
@@bloodytoad2010 I don't see how Sony actively limiting their users is positive even if you think Gcam produces worse results. More people would consider Xperias if they had a more computationally-heavy option. What about its great night mode? What about Gcam's noise reducing algorithms and its dedicated astrophotography mode, among other functions? What about the ability to touch and change every aspect of its computational outputs? I'm using a Realme 8 which, granted, has pretty crap hardware and software, but still Gcam has saved it a lot of times. And there's some objective reasons as to why you may want to use Gcam on Xperias, for example what about the pixelation that's visible from their native app? Zoom in on any photo from any Xperia model and you'll notice some pretty ugly pixelation here and there that Gcam simply doesn't produce. On top of this, however ugly it might be, what if you want insane dynamic range to get all the details out of a shot instead of realistic, 3 dimensional shots produced by Xperias? Until Sony develops an identical app to Gcam ports Xperias remain crippled, even partially, and this is coming from a huge Xperia fan trying to get his hands on a 5 III. I don't get why they insist in limiting 3rd party apps so much, no one should appreciate that.
