Nah guisarme was actually very strong and lloys later admitted that it was quite difficult to fight him and couldn't beat him without decoding shadow wolf. But it could also be that he was holding back and not going all out as he didn't want anyone down below getting injured. He might not show it often, but he's actually more humane than he portrays.
