A great old country song, masterfully done of the true greats of the pedal steel, a legend in his own time. My father brought me home a Lloyd Green album when I was 11 years old, and I've been a fan for 45 years.....he seems to just get better. Bravo ,Lloyd.

Had dinner with Lloyd in Dallas a couple of nights ago and ask him if he had any idea how many sessions he had cut and his answer was , to many to count, but it kept the bills paid. One of the nicest session players you could ever meet. He is truly one of the best steel players we have on earth.....Have owned 3 of his LDG Steels and they are totally awesome guitars.

It seems like you rarely hear Lloyd Green's name come up when there's talk of the great steel players. What a shame. This man was truly brilliant. Such taste, and his tone was unique. I still think some of the best playing he did was on the Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo. What a great talent he was.

No one ever brings up Paul Franklin or Tommy white. Why is that? Is it because they are so far above your heads that you don't understand their playing?

Unmistakable sound and style. We all agree Lloyd is superb as are the handful of the "greats", but when I hear Buddy Emmons I am compelled to to think that no other pedal steel guitarist comes anywhere close. Big E owns the benchmark and probably always will.

@@Arthur-nw8yo David Hartley is technically very good, his picking is very clean and accurate , the thing he doesn't have that the true greats Lloyd Green , Buddy Emmons , John Hughey, have in abundance is emotion and feeling . David Hartley is a bit robotic.....having said that I wish I could play like him.

Mick - I agree with your post, but you need to edit the word "was" throughout to "IS", as he is still actively playing and recording! He is indeed the "Master"
@markbuckles6609
@markbuckles6609 5 жыл бұрын
No...he had it right. He WAS a MASTER. He just doesn't have the touch he once had. If you don't believe me....listen to his work in station inn, and other videos on you tube. He was one of the top players at one time. Paul Franklin has taken pedal steel guitar to it's highest level in the history of the instrument.

@@shobud7561 you misunderstand me. I have the utmost respect for Lloyd green. One of the greatest of all time. When I think of the word MASTER, I think of what is going on now. The heights the steel guitar is at in the now time frame. I still say, NO DISRESPECT TO LLOYD GREEN AT ALL, PAUL FRANKLIN HAS TAKEN THIS INSTRUMENT BEYOND WHAT ANY MAN HAS. BUDDY EMMONS, THE GODFATHER OF THE PEDAL STEEL, WITH THE GREATEST RESPECT I SAY COULD NOT PLAY WHAT PAUL PLAYS. ITS INSULTING FOR YOU TO SAY I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THESE OUTSTANDING PLAYERS, JUST BECAUSE I FEEL THE INSTRUMENT HAS PROGRESSED ALONG WITH THE PLAYERS. BUT, ALL THE RANT BEING SAID, I FORGIVE YOU FOR INSULTING MY INTELLIGENCE. WONT BE RESPONDING ANY MORE SOOOOO HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR AND MANY HOURS OF WONDERFUL PLAYING.

@@markbuckles6609 Bud Emmons has forgotten more than any other steel Guitar player will ever know. Buddy Emmons is the Greatest steel guitar player that will ever be. And that goes for those yet unborn. In other words, NO steel guitar player can carry Buddy's case. Paul Franklin is an outstanding SG player. But even he could not do many of the things Buddy did. And that goes for every player. Jerry Byrd had the greatest touch and tone that will ever be on the Steel Guitar. Buddy Emmons is the greatest "all-over" player that will ever be.

Lloyd Green is truly one of the Greatest Steel guitar players ever; and there has NEVER been a nicer player in the world. But I must say "Au Contraire" to a number of comments below: He is NOT the Greatest. Buddy Emmons is. He does NOT have the greatest touch and tone. Jerry Byrd has that. And there are NO steel guitar players, dead or alive, that will ever be greater than these two incredible "Giant Greats". And I shall add, "Those yet unborn". Finally: I do believe with all my heart, that Lloyd would agree with this.
