I have always said that Starling is one of the most underrated Welterweights in history. I remember watching this fight at home with about half my building in my living room. This was a huge event. Lol. Thank you for uploading.

I think one of the reasons he was so underrated was because of his two losses to Curry who didn't go on to becoming the superstar many were expecting.
@exspiravit69207 ай бұрын
@@Von.NorthEndYeah Magic man Moochie had some very WEIRD luck and not in a good way. The Curry fights could have gone differently, if one of the judges had admired tight defense it could've easily went his way. Also, he had terrible luck!! They did that thing when he fought Bumphus where they let you hear each judge's score for the last round every round. Even though the judges were scoring it for Bumphus, Marlon was BUSTING Johnny up, and it probably would've ended up a TKO for Marlon, but instead Duva knew Bumphus was ahead, and took advantage of a cut from accidental Headbutt and said his fighter couldn't continue WTF!?!? He lost technical decision. I hated that. Blocker also beat him when he was really winning seems like.
@johncohen2222 жыл бұрын
I remember this fight well. I loved Lloyd Honeyghan and I really hoped he would win this fight, as it was one he always said he wanted. He always said that he hated Starling and desperately wanted to fight him. He started aggressively, but Starling blocked and slipped most of his punches and countered superbly. Then Lloyd tried jabbing and moving, but Starling hunted him down. Nothing Lloyd tried worked. He got more frustrated as the fight went on and when you get frustrated, you become desperate, when you become desperate you become predictable, and Starling took full advantage of that. Whatever Honeyghan tried, Starling had an answer for and congratulations to him for a brilliant performance.
@SkindogBoxing2 жыл бұрын
Starling really fought a great fight here. He always had that great defense, and slipped so many shots going from side to side. He did all the things that Curry didn’t do vs Honeyghan.

Marlon managed a gas station in my town back in the late 70's . He went pro and his record belied the Marlon we knew . The mild mannered Marlon just kept winning .
@tyronemurphy29054 жыл бұрын
This fight illustrates how one bad beating can ruin a fighter. Lloyd Honeyghan entered the ring as a cocky world champion who thought that he was going to knock Marlon Starling out. He left it badly beaten and a shadow of his former self. He was never the same fighter after this and the subsequent beating at the hands of Mark Breland, merely served to confirm that his days as a world-class fighter were over.
@Kaiserbill994 жыл бұрын
Yes. Just rewatched the Breland fight and Honeyghan was a shadow of his former self. None of the brash arrogance and put down by two jabs. Completely shot.
@johncohen98004 жыл бұрын
Yes. Honeyghan was destroyed psychologically as well as physically. Bit by bit, his self belief and confidence were eroded. Whatever he tried, Starling had an answer to. Even the knockdown, he didn't really get hit. He was just broken by then.

Slick, tough, and endlessly energetic. Marlon Starling would use his high guard and timing to make up for his (relative) deficits in speed and power, forcing his opponents to work harder than they'd like, landing far fewer shots than they wanted. When they started to slow down, he'd get more aggressive, putting punches together on a now fatigued fighter. An opponent would need exceptional will and durability to survive the later rounds, only to lose unanimously on the scorecards. A cerebral style crafted by the great Eddie Futch, and bestowed on the clinical Magic Man.

@@petej5232 British fighters have always earned more than US fighters. When Tim Witherspoon beat Frank Bruno to retain his HW title back in the 1980s, he later learned that Bruno had earned 25% more than him despite being the challenger. This was always down to the difference in promoters in the UK and US but these days a British fighter can sell out a 90K stadium so the likes of AJ has earned substantially more than Deontay Wilder.
