I will also add this comment to the changes occurring at the JW Ministry of Truth. The heyday of the JWs was actually from the 60-90's when many of their "prophecies" were ready to "be fulfilled"in a climactic manner. By this I mean, the "calling" of anointed class was basically said to have ended in 1935 so the elderly GB members were still of "that era" and expectations were high , the very critical and central prophecy of the 1914 generation was very much active and again expectations were high because the generation of 1914 ( which the GB - being guided by holy spirit- had been intensely in agreement as to its meaning and who it was etc). There was no internet then of course so the organisation strongly controlled the information going out and it was very difficult for the average JW ( if they wanted to) to weigh up whether what they were "learning" was accurate or not- of course the strict disciplinary code meant that it was social suicide for any JW to behave in any manner contrary to JW policy. The tool of "unity" was infact the threat of shunning via disfellowshipment and ironically up until 1948, shunning was considered and written by the leadership as being wholly unscriptural.. yet they reversed this view when it dawned on them the power it yielded in keeping the flock in check. And their were many other JW teachings which were essentially time based and the expectation was that things will happen imminently - the last part of the last part of the last days etc. However once the 2000's came, many of the long held "truths" and interpretations started to self dismantle, and much of the revealed "light" of the mid 90's was fast becoming a liability- false light - and the organisation could see the writing on the wall.

Hey Lloyd, I'm having a crisis of faith, I guess you could call it. I'm 3rd generation JW on both sides of my family and I was baptized when I was 12, in 1996. My dad was an Elder for many years, my mom was a reg. pioneer, all of my uncles were Elders, and 1 grandpa was an Elder and the other an MS. So I've definitely been in deep. I recently came across the ARC CSA case and was absolutely mind blown. That lead me to seeing an article that the GB registered with the UN as an NGO, which led me to your video about the NGO situation, so I watched it. Then I saw a video about the KH mortgage loan forgiveness and KH sales. I'm questioning my whole life 😔 Thank you for being so respectful and objective. I think you have done an excellent job with your videos.

In a way, the GB has to cherry pick on the subject of Bible studies, what else can they say? They will never admit to stagnant or decreasing numbers of publishers. Even in 1976 the WTS blamed the publishers themselves for leaving in droves after Armageddon never happened as they predicted!

@josefhorndl3469, Could you imagine what tyrannical regimes and theocracies like that could do if they turned JW doctrine into legal policy? Oh, that would be Hell on Earth. Let's hope no politician ever tries to co-opt JW doctrine and make it the precedent for the laws of the land. I kind of doubt the Governing Body would be against the idea in and of itself. They would just be upset that they wouldn't be the ones running such a government, unless these leaders appointed one of the Governing Body members to the role of national leader.

Firstly I must say something about this "beard" thing. As a JW myself of many many years, though faded now, I find the whole sad saga about the whys and wherefores of beards over the years and the not-so-subtle soft shunning it attracted for brothers who dared to sport anything beyond a 48 hr stubble, utterly, utterly hilarious ( but thanks to Jehovah of course for communicating this "new light" on personal grooming to the GB and Jesus as well presumably not to mention the others "up there" who no doubt are also sporting beards). The GB can now feel "at one" with their heavenly co-elders who, as one would have noticed in their literature, all have solid beards- maybe this was the real impetus for the intense private prayer sessions the GB would have had asking Jehovah to provide clarity as to "the beard"- and perhaps they suddenly felt out of place with the grooming standards of the heavenly realm and maybe after all these years they might have realised that their attitude to beards was misguided where "the light" was too dim to see clarity ( thanks to Rutherford whose public dislike of beards stemmed from his well known wish to curtail any influence from his predecessor in Russel)- though of course any brother previously who "insisted" on his right to have a beard was considered somewhat of a pariah ( I've seen it myself in action)- but now beards are all the rage. Well done GB for feeding the sheep at the proper time.

Funny thing is. The beard thing was never scriptural its simply a style preference based on what was seen as appropriate during the 60s and 70s. Clean shaven was considered neat and formal at that time so they enforced it strictly. It was always an incredibly outdated rule with an unreasonably harsh punishment considering this.

@B.W-k8k
@B.W-k8k Ай бұрын
@AnthonyMorrisReturns, Hi, Chaka. Yes, they always seem to do that, speaking slowly, and they always seem to talk down to the audiences as if they're a bunch of incompetent dummies, and why do the Witnesses allow themselves to be spoken to like that? If you were to talk to a person with a mental or learning disability that way, most would understandably find that offensive. But when it's a Governing Body member talking to potentially millions of Jehovah's Witnesses, they just put up with it. What kind of sense does that make?
@AnthonyMorrisReturns
@AnthonyMorrisReturns Ай бұрын
@@B.W-k8k Yes, it's completely tragic. A short while before I left the religion we had this couple over for dinner. I suspected the husband was at the very least PIMQ but the wife was definitely PIMI. So we started talking about how slowly the GB members and helpers talk and I mentioned that I put them on x2 cause I find it unbearable. And they were like "Yeah, we also put them on x2. We are a young family with a child. Life is too fast paced to be listening to such slow speech". I wonder how many other PIMIs either don't watch these videos at all or put them on x2. There's actually been a movement in the JW religion in the last few years to get speakers to speak slowly. When I was a ministerial servant and then an elder a criticism I would get constantly for my talks was that I spoke too quickly. I would be told stuff like "You need to give your audience chance to absorb what you're saying!" And I would be like "This is stuff people have heard thousands of times before". As for the presenters on JW Broadcasting, it now appears to be official policy to speak super slowly. When you put their talks in an audio analyser you'll find that there are couple of seconds long pauses after each sentence. Even the men who would naturally speak quite rapidly like Stephen Lett and Mark Noumair have conformed to this style of speaking. I think this speaks to the arrogance of the Governing Body in thinking each and every one of their words should be listened to by their captive audience.

I take these “real life experiences” with a grain of salt because I personally know they twist these stories to their own will. For example my ex wife and I started a study with a young couple. They even went to months of meetings. But they kept talking about how wealthy we were and many members at the KH were too. We thought that was odd, so we asked them if they really wanted to study the Bible or if they just were looking for free handouts. They immediately stopped their study and moved away. A few weeks later they were in the news for being involved in robbing houses and shop lifting and were in jail. But the crazy part is later that year at a circuit assembly, without us even knowing about it they told our experience about the study and how they were coming to meetings and making great progress. End of story. Ummm… did they forget about the crime spree? And jail? We looked at each other and laughed, but that was a turning point for me knowing honesty is not their best policy.

It's not advantageous for the Governing Body to release decline numbers in addition to growth numbers. There's little doubt that the Witness faith's numbers in African countries are growing. They tend to be more socially and morally conservative and tend to not have as much access to material needs or a good education. I don't see what's so exciting about an entire family of five converting to the Witness faith in that one testimonial. Religious conversion in families is not at all uncommon. Most people that convert to JWs and probably most other faiths, those people are probably more likely to join when they know someone else who is already a member, most likely a good friend or family member. It probably gives them a sense of security about making such a decision. That's not super surprising. The idea that Witnesses study the Bible in church more than any other denomination is a laugh. Reading from "THE WATCHTOWER" magazine on a Sunday morning isn't the same as reading from an actual Bible. True, most Christian denominations do utilize hymns, prayers and sermons during services, but then, don't the JWs do that too? Why is that shocking or hilarious, I mean, it is in Gage Fleegle Schpiegel's eyes for some odd reason. Most conservative denominations of Christianity claim that they "only use the Bible", but if they were being completely honest with themselves, none of them ever use "just only the Bible", not even JWs. I mean, the Bible's not exactly as thrilling of a read as a Stephen King novel, so most denominations wouldn't spend an entire worship service just reading passages from that book. I think that even many Christians know that the Bible would be a boring read if you read it like you would read a 19th century, 20th century or even a 21st century novel.

Gasp! The Bible directly contradicts itself? Say it isn’t true. A. Don’t ever test Yahweh. B. Test Yahweh and see he is real and will prove that and bless you.

The blood issue is where I first had an indicia that my JW wife didn't really buy all the BS. She has been a Witness for almost 15 years,] and I have asked for a copy of her blood refusal documents for at least 10 years (so I don't get blamed by the family or authorities, since it would not be hard to jump to a conclusion that I would not mind her dying... you know the legal system and grieving family... ). She has refused to give me a copy, or contact info for the hospital liaison or even her elders. Then, recently, I quoted some JW propaganda back to her, and she asked me why was I insulting her. When I showed her the website contents, I could see the cognitive dissonance going round and round like Windows 95. Today, I sent her a medley of verses, a sadistic biblical poem of sorts, of many verses that explain that we, unbelievers, are... well, awful, hated by their god, and to be destroyed, to summarize. She has not spoken to me yet, and it's been a few hours. I've learned that many JWs have something critical from their theology they quietly disagree with.

Can you imagine how JW broadcasting would have handled the sinking of the Titanic?” Yes Brothers and Sisters. Many passengers completed their journey to New York successfully. “ ( pause for applause) Never mind it was in another rescue ship and whilst so many others drowned
@B.W-k8k
@B.W-k8k Ай бұрын
@davidmay3042, There was a Middle Eastern (I think Syrian or Lebanese, but I may be wrong as to the exact ethnic identity) boy who survived the sinking of the RMS TITANIC who converted to the Jehovah's Witness faith later on in his life. I believe his story was featured in an issue of "THE WATCHTOWER" magazine, or maybe it was the "AWAKE!", I think it was written during the 1980s or 1970s. At the time of the ship's ill-fated maiden voyage, the boy was traveling with his older teenaged sister. They were either Eastern Orthodox Christians or Oriental Orthodox Christians (I believe they were of the latter). They were traveling in Third Class. His sister also survived the tragedy and later became either a Lutheran or a Presbyterian (I cannot remember which). I think they both legally changed their names. Most victims of the TITANIC disaster, according to historians, likely froze to death in the freezing waters of the North Atlantic rather than drowned after the liner disappeared beneath the waves for the final time. More than 1,500 passengers and crew members lost their lives in the tragedy. The little more than 700 survivors of the TITANIC were rescued by the RMS CARPATHIA within a few hours after the sinking, and upon being dropped off in New York City on April 18th, 1912, their arrival in the city was one of the most significant events to take place at the Chelsea Pier. I imagine that if you looked up older Bible Student literature from 1912, you might find a reference to the RMS TITANIC disaster. Many religious groups delivered sermons in the days and weeks after the sinking. Some saw it as a direct punishment from God. Some saw it as being due to man's foolish attempts at trying to master nature, the ostentatious luxury that the liner's wealthy First-Class passengers were showered with aboard the ship. The idea of building larger and faster passenger vessels, or made tirades over the potential dangers of scientific progress and increasing innovative technology etc. Whether there were any Bible Students among the victims or survivors of this famous maritime disaster seems to be unknown.

I find that funny. "Direct approach." As opposed to....?? 🤔 The INdirect, the cagey, the deceptive approach. 😑 The approaches the WT normally endorses, like starting a conversation around general topics and then diverting it to the reason why you're REALLY talking to the person. *If* God or angels were directing or assisting in the preaching, *if* God was personally pulling in "right-hearted ones," *why* would they need anything else but the direct approach? 😑 Also: I hate that I missed the live stream!! 😭

JW will not survive more than 10-20 more years unless they do major changes. Still i believe the outchecking must be done wisely, and the part about offering bible studies are a smart move. There will be lesser and lesser "truely" interested students, and at the end JW will be a gang of "hairdressers cutting eachothers hair"...(preaching to eachother) Its painful to see that braches will be cut away from the tree, especially when you sit on that branch. But its maybe necessary, Change is still possible, and they have at least started with the beards

@ArtVentriss
@ArtVentriss Ай бұрын
@@ThatBlueSponge Correct. Studies are reportable but the hours (per se) are no longer reportable. Why did this massive change come about?? Basically headquarters are now NOT obliged to report a DECLINE in the preaching hours in the yearbooks. If the JWs continued to report the hours, then obviously the yearbooks would also need to show these hours- so by not having any numbers to report means.... sorry but we can no longer show the numbers - or more specifically, we cant show you show the declining numbers because it is contrary to the narrative of the past 100 yrs ( constant increase) . They will never say that of course because many JWs might start thinking "critically".

@B.W-k8k Ай бұрын
@thezenoflux8244, Yeah, but unfortunately with Scientology, one has to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars over a period of years for those course materials. And the Church of Scientology lied for years about being "the world's fastest-growing religion". Bah! You're definitely not going to grow your faith when you're only appealing to the very wealthiest members of society. And every time one of Hubbard's writings get revised or something, members of the Church have to spend more money and then have to read the same book that they already read at some point earlier all over again simply because it has new material.

I love the way the gb will roll out ye olde Proverbs 4 18 new light nonsense almost every convention/annual meeting....what if they get this new light months before from Jehovah?? do they allow the members to keep teaching the soon to be old light until the convention or does Jehovah reveal the new light the night before?? It is presented in such a corporate model fashion like a company unveiling new software or a different product to keep the sheep pacified and excited(yeah good luck with excited).....Preposterous lol.
