I hated the book study as a child growing up in this religion, but I hated family bible study even more. One year when I was 9, I’d just had my adenoids and tonsils out, it was the year I also found out I had haemophilia, normally a male disease. I bled pretty badly after my surgery, but no transfusion for me. And when I was finally allowed to come home I was expected to do everything as normal despite still being quite sick. At bible study I was unable to read the passages from the bible my father ordered me to, my throat hurt and was bleeding from trying to speak too much. My father was so angry he dragged me into the bedroom and thrashed me with his belt until I was screaming and I ended up in hospital again with another major bleed. These people are all so evil. How can they think that treating any child like that is anything other than abuse? My father is dead now, and he gave up the religion some years before his death and became a better person for it, my mother is still in it, to this day she still is as deluded as ever. Oh and she doesn’t recall any of that ever happening to me, nor any of the other awful things. 😢

I just remembered another point that could have made a list. The recent announcement about being able to still jump onboard even after Armageddon has started, effectively giving the disfellowshipped or non-believers the chance to just wait and see if any of this is real or not.
@geoffreybunting98377 ай бұрын
I'm glad you mentioned this because JW official belief in the hailstone message is contrary to their belief in last-minute repentance during the Great Tribulation. One cannot believe both doctrines at the same time. Once the Governing Body realises that they have foisted on JWs these contrary beliefs, they may try to do something about it. The members of the Governing Body are obtuse, so it may take them some time to realise what they have done

So many changes indeed. I'm dying to have a face2face conversation with my mother about this actually, and really see if she still 100 % believes or is now staying it for social reasons, JWs are her family basically. I can respect that if it were the case but she ought to be honest, can't tell me with all these changes she still wholly believes it. But here's a funny story, just yesterday I saw a newspaper article about the passing of the husband of the woman who preached and converted my mother (and subsequently many in my family) 50+ years ago. He was a JW too as far as I know. Prior to converting to the JWs he was a land developer in their area who contributed a lot to the city hence his passing was newsworthy for the local papers. These people's kids, one's out, the other I don't know, she actually married a special pioneer back in the 90 but he seemed quite liberal and I know later he quit pioneering and took over his family business. I met the guy once in London when he visited for an industry expo, I was fading we had a meal together and he was the only person from my childhood congregation who didn't even bring up the JW conversation. So I'm inclined to think the daughter & husband are also no longer JWs. But here's the interesting point: about the old man who passed, the paper said funerals are to be held at the catholic church and gave the address. I did a double take on that. Are they to tell me that the parents are also no longer JWs? That's beyond ironic to me and I will find out more.

About point 6, cart witnessing: You explained that in your time as a witness, you could only spread the message by door-knocking and return visits. But - back in the seventies and eighties, it was common to do street preaching, at least here in Norway: We would find some public area, working alone or in couples, and address random people walking by, presenting ourselves and offering som litterature. We could stand still or walk slowly when doing this. No carts, only our personal bag with litterature.
@grapevinez60267 ай бұрын
I'm still bemused by the cart phenomenon as it is after my time as well. I wonder if it would've been any less stress-inducing though. At least with door to door I was able to avoid knocking on my schoolmates' doors on all occasions except one when I couldn't wiggle my way out of that territory. With the cart thing, I'd be stood there with nowhere to hide 😂 but then again, I haven't seen young wans at the carts yet. The not reporting of time would've been great to avoid the constant guilt of either not having more hours or for rounding up that half hour here and there 😅

Does that directive not ignore the very scripture Watchtower uses to condone its disfellowshipping policy? "For he that says a greeting to him is a sharer in his works." (2John 11) And, isn't it interesting that mature Christians need permission from the Governing Body to use their Bible-trained conscience? What if one's Bible-trained conscience permits one to have an extended conversation with such a person?

So much change! I’m 60 this year and haven’t attended a meeting in about 25 years and the organisation is nothing like it used to be. Men couldn’t have ‘privileges’ in the congregation if they had a beard, now it’s a complete about face! Excuse the pun 😁Before I got married, at the age of 17, I would wear pants to the meeting and I was so looked down upon. Such stupid incidental things that they controlled about us and now they say, ‘come back, it’s so much easier now!’ I resent that so much. I doubt that my parents would still be witnesses now if they were alive, it’s unrecognisable 😠

The overlapping generation schtick is so ridiculous. I left in 1980, and the WT explanation was confusing before that. Until I read the Bible without their voices in my head, I didn’t realize it made no sense when you chucked Israel out of the equation. And the last generation started with Israel coming back into being( dry bones and all that.) they really put themselves in a corner with their weird interpretations of scripture.

I left in 2012 and recently I have been tearing MySelf apart because I cannot seem to stop believing and I am with a loving man who does everything for me because I now have Multiple Sclerosis and am very disabled and he does not want me to go back and I have also fallen in love with a woman and we have all wanted to be together but she lives in Northern Ireland and we have just moved to an adapted property and we have to stay here for at least a couple of years. I have a mental health condition and it affects my life enormously. Now I don’t know what to do. I have reconnected with a witness friend and remembered how much they did for me and I am so torn up by everything.

What's the difference between Watchtower and Awake magazines - in content, editorial style etc? Also, the video for change #9 - - - the greeting of disfellowshipped members - - - it always creeps me out... A woman gets out of her car and walks towards the hall, and suddenly this guy just falls into step behind her, like Hitman 2™ or a Gov't spook. It's literally chilling. Second only to the smug couple who think the've found the cure for Cancer just by saying hello to her.

I don’t see any love or forgiveness, just bitterness and endless self-promoting at other people’s expense.

So, you agree with me that you are full of bitterness and an unforgiving person?

I liked the book study group at a person's home as one got much friendlier with other members in that sort of environment; am amazed that they stopped that! I remember being taught that one should be sure to keep close to that arrangement because in the future we could expect a ban on JWs to come and we probably would not be able to meet at the Kingdom Hall but only at peoples homes ! Tsk .... this all kind of makes me sad even though I left about 20 years ago .... the changes to 'this generation' makes absolutely no sense to me at all, I remember seeing that video on it a few years ago with it being explained with the use of a whiteboard and it's still utterly baffling

When I was growing up it was the watchtower logo that was like an idol. I remember having a gold watchtower tie clip

Your list is spot on, very hard decision in the listing the order but on balance I think you got the order right. On a separate note it would be interesting to know how many anointed JWs there have been since 1914 both dead and alive. I was always taught that all first century Christian’s were anointed with some selected thru the centuries, knowing how many JWs are anointed gives us a clue how many first century Christian’s were about. We were taught that the Greek scriptures were written exclusively for the heavenly calling with the great crowd benefiting from them. I’m sure you would put together how all this fits in

I used to like the book studies better than the big meetings

That would be how it should be. However, you will have your own thoughts and can't have anyone have anything bad to say or question.
@MidniteMoogle7 ай бұрын
@@susanjewitt283 play feel everyone should be able to respectfully say what they think or feel everyone respects everyone right to feel and think how they do. However when a group our thoughts and feelings making us have to think a certain way or believe a certain way really just rings separation ordivision because it will make someone feel like they shouldn't be there
