Here's a related story for you due to your interest. I've copied this from an earlier post I wrote as it's quite long: I've never believed in ghosts or anything. Even after a couple of creepy unexplainable experiences throughout my life I've always put it down to major coincidence with some sort of logical explanation. I just wanted to share this one though in a closed forum. I wouldn't share this in my real life though as I wouldn't want to get a reputation for being an attention seeker or whatever. If this isn't 'real' then it's one hell of a chain of rare coincidences. It's made me question things: We lived in a very old house built in 1877. The neighbouring house was sometimes addressed as 'The Schoolhouse' instead of it's door number, although we never got to the bottom of the story behind the name until recently, as the occupants didn't know either why Royal Mail had the address as 'The Schoolhouse'. We weren't sure whether it was an original name or something quirky an owner over the years had officially given it. At the time I was a Prison Officer and after a night shift a few years ago I woke up after a couple of hours sleep in the bedroom and was all groggy. I'd heard a child laughing and it woke me up. I was quite annoyed as I thought my wife was off work (she's a Teacher so has school holidays at home) and she was looking after her nephews despite me being on nights and needing quiet to sleep. I desperately tried to get back to sleep because I didn't want to become fully awake, knowing I'd never get back to sleep during the day. I then heard louder children laughing and playing close to the bedroom door. I was angry now. Convinced my wife had put her family's childcare above her husband's ability to sleep when working nights. When I opened my eyes, accepting that I was now awake, I saw a boy in a flat cap run from the bedroom door to my cupboard that was in the alcove next to the chimney breast... I thought she'd brought some dress up props home and they were all playing. My wife and these kids were in for a serious talking to! I got out of bed and stomped over to the cupboard. On inspection no kid was hiding in the alcove or cupboard. I went downstairs to speak to my wife about this. Nobody was even in the house. I realised it was a week day late morning, school term time and she was in work. I was so confused. I was so sure of what I'd heard and seen that I'd got myself up out of bed despite wanting nothing more than to go back to sleep. I accepted it as one of those weird things and just left it, not telling my wife as I didn't want to creep her out, especially with me working shifts and being out a lot. If I had have told her then she'd have certainly protested against me doing any voluntary overtime at night, which was easy money we needed. About 2 years later my wife told me of a strange occurrence while she was in bed. She'd seen a boy in a flat cap run from my cupboard to the bedroom door. I couldn't believe what I was hearing as I'd not told a soul. At this point I had to tell her what I'd seen 2 years ago. Neither of us felt scared or 'haunted' when we saw it, it was just bizarre and confusing. We couldn't believe it. A year or two later we packed away everything in our house to move. I dismantled the wardrobe which had been there since before we moved in. The previous owners left it in place and we had too, throughout our time at the house. So I'd never seen behind it until this point. My wife noticed a door shape in the wall behind it. It was the party wall between our house and the neighbour's house... It was faded like a shadow of slight dirt. We'd never seen it before because the cupboard had been blocking it. I looked at it and realised that there was once a door shape cavity in the wall as it was hollow leading to next door... I could tell when I knocked on it that it wasn't brick where the door once was, just plasterboard... It was exactly where we'd both seen the boy running to and there was clearly once a door there which was now boarded up. Turns out that our house and the neighbouring house were once the same premises around 100yrs ago... The Schoolhouse. Since moving house nothing else has happened and we've been happy. The only strange thing that has happened is that one day I got my phone out of my pocket and there was a photo on the screen. It was a photo I must have taken in the old house of the area it happened. I'm not someone who takes many photos on my phone. And I'd have had no reason to take it as nobody is in the photo and the room is a mess with clothes on the floor. The photo was locked on the screen and no functions worked. Not even the power off button. The screen wouldn't even go blank after a few minutes of no touching as it normally would. I had to do a full reset on my phone to switch it off (hold power and home). It was almost like something was reminding me of it. 4 years have passed since that photo came on my phone and probably 8 or 9 since the original incident where I saw the boy running. But I often think about it.

I will tell you exactly what ghosts are and this is Biblical teaching. Question: What is the Church’s stance on ghosts? Are they all demons, or can people be allowed, by the grace of God, to appear after death? Answer: Ghosts are disembodied souls. Since only humans have bodies, that means ghosts are souls of deceased human beings. When a person dies, the soul leaves the body. At the resurrection of the dead, souls are rejoined to their bodies; for the just, they will be glorified, body and soul. Any manifestation of a human soul between death and the resurrection of the dead is what we call a ghost. The term “ghost” comes from the German word “geist,” meaning “spirit.” Ghosts are distinct from demons. Demons are fallen angels, but ghosts are presumed to be the spirits of human beings. Generally it is assumed that the ghosts of human beings would be those from purgatory, not from hell. Hence, it would seem that God permits a small number of souls in purgatory to reach out to us on earth to assist the soul in some need. Usually they seek our prayers or give us some warning. In a few rare cases, a ghost has assisted in the solving of a crime by indicating some sort of hidden evidence. Not many Christians may believe in a state of being considered “Purgatory” other than Catholics, not being proud or anything but it is ancient teaching, even according to the Jewish peoples. We are the only ones that can pray for the souls in “Purgatory”, if you live a holy life and do not dabble in the occult you have nothing to fear from ghosts or the demonic. But if you do feel afraid do not hesitate to have your house blessed by a priest and wear certain holy sacramentals to help strengthen your faith and drive away evil spirits.

I know right, not many folks understand purgatory and what it entails….I myself have always considered the thought that spirits that walk among us are possibly in purgatory, which makes sense cause a lot of spirits seem to have unfinished business or have an attachment to someone or something, like they are here to work something out.
