The AFL has made so many changes to better protect players. Mandatory breaks. Doctors analysing every contest in game. HIA tests. Medical panels reviewing players' history. Not to mention all the changes to what qualifies as a report these days. Can we just let these changes work and stop trying to fix everything. Incessant rule changes won’t stop until they end up replacing the goal posts with basketball rings. The 10 COMMANDMENTS OF AUSTRALIAN RULES FOOTBALL ( Before it became a hodgepodge hybrid of soccer and basketball ) 1.Round the neck 2. Below the knees 3. Push in the back 4. Holding the man 5. Dropping the ball 6. Holding the ball 7. Run too far without bouncing 8. Kicking out on the full 9. Shepherding and protecting team mate taking possession of ball (ALLOWED within the rules ) Eliminating head contact. 10.Player must kick the ball over the head of man on the mark after free kick awarded.

I doubt you'll ever see DM play in front of a pack, cos he knows how many knees are going to hit him. He'd look like a bruised pin cushion in two or three weeks. He trains from behind, jumping into a mattress held on someone's back. My question is this: if you can see anyone about to jump into someone's back, why can't you legally take him out of that contest . Push him in the side, when the ball is within 5 metres of the contest. The rules are evolving & too complicated for a pleb like me. Can an officienado out there , give us a clue , please?

I've said the same for years and got ridiculed for agreeing with Kane on the videos where he was highlighting the head knocks the last couple years but the truth is that this was always going to be a strong discussion and with the protection and limitations on dangerous acts in football you need to address these moments too. Having a shoulder bump to the head would be just as dangerous as a knee to the back of the head, or into the side of your ribs yet one is punishable and one isn't. The solution is simple, keep these acts in the game so we can admire a great specky or intercept mark from behind but if you concuss or injure the player you're opposing then you should also miss the same amount of weeks that the injured player does.

I don't agree with that - if the AFL goes down that route & takes all physical violence out of the sport, I doubt the game would have the same impact on sports fans....🤔 It'll be like soccer, basketball, etc - 2nd tier niche sports with no mass appeal - in fact soccer & basketball would probably take over from it...🤔

You can't get lift without raising the knee. Unfortunately, the victim gets caught standing stationary under the ball. The victim, who is watching the ball, can't see the running defender coming at them with the intent of making hard impact. The victim is usually praised for his/her courage. That's how courage is shown in the game of AFL. Should courageous acts like that be removed from the game. I personally think gang tackles of 3 or more players should be outlawed if you want to remove dangerous acts.

The knee isn't the problem. It is the driving of the knee that is the problem. If Moore contested those marks more side on (with the side of his knee) rather than the swinging pendulum motion that he did (with the point of the knee), then there wouldn't have been serious injuries. That is my issue with Moore. He is swinging the point of his knee right into the most vulnerable part of the back rather than using the knee to support himself.

@Comatosedpeanut I think if the player gets injured and ruled out of a game then give the player as many weeks suspension as the injur3d player

Sounds like you have never run and jumped in your life… the natural movement of running and jumping leads to one knee up, the other leg straight. People just love to throw the dirty player tag around. I’d be guessing you - and most people who throw that around - never played a serious game of footy in your life.

100% it’s so reactionary too. Anytime something bad happens they wanna change the rules. Accidents happen and I wouldn’t even call the petracca one an accident, just unlucky.

A once a mad supporter of our beloved game footy. I find myself caring less and less with each season that passes. I've been to one game each year for the last 5 years. As it being a tradition with my best friend.. And have never turned the TV on to watch a game. I check the end scores and the ladder. Which takes a couple of minutes. Then I'm out.. Footy has become a joke...
