Thank You for the Video. My 05 just took a Shit. And I had Chevy dealer put it on Computer and They said I have 2 bad injectors. No2 and Im not sure of the other. They want 2400.00 dollars to put those 2 in. And naturally my warranty I bought for truck doesnt cover it. So Im going too do it. Thank you again

Given the thorough nature of the ECM, I find it curious there were no codes directing you to #2 and #7 cylinders, and I find it even more curious it's the same two problem cylinders I read about all the time. ( including the chaffing/grounding at the alternator bracket.) The 3 local Stealerships near me were absolutely useless. I then searched out 3 independent "Diesel Only" shops only to hear "I don't know.....you shoulda bought a....." Thank goodness for guys like you taking the time to share your experiences on here, that's how I repaired mine ! Thank you for a good video.

I got the main thing down on how to remove it. Just dreading the ones that are behind the steering shaft and the other one behind the wiring harness and the other dreaded one behind the intake up against the fire wall.

The fuel return lines are the hardest part to do. Making sure you do not lose the retainer clip or break the head of the plastic nipple. Before doing the job i would recommend getting a return line kit online. The dealer is $60 per side vs $15 online.
@Mebob200111 жыл бұрын
in all honesty man theres a snap on socket that costs 35 bucks that is designed for 19m injector line nuts, its WELL work the investment, it will lower the repair time hugely, ive got both tool's and i only had to remove the line off the rail and the holdown on the injector, pushed wiring out of the way and pulled #7 out, i had to do #2 all ready so i was trying to do it quickly, but awsome video!

Glad i could Help Martin. Currently doing another video on doing the number 6 Injector. Will be up soon, but ran into some issues. If you break the fuel return line expect to be sitting for a few days as no where carries the part in stock. If you do need one its $57.99 at auto stores. Auto zone, Napa, Orielly's carry it but Advanced does not.

Gm has the return lines IN STOCK at 285 $ per side lol. Told them to keep them. I bought the dipaco set. A little cheap, but at 17$ a side, I bought 3 sets and you can individually change the ones you break

im still fighting deciding between an LBZ or LLY....... im not a super tuner i just want a truck that has a bed, good MPG, and reliablity............ im aware of getting an EGR block and exhaust and edge insight to get it runs very smooth... the only thing i haul is 2 motocross.. should i go LLY since their cheaper a bit?
@thomasmolitor96010 жыл бұрын
LLY are not cheaper. They cost more, lb7 are cheaper due to the internal injectors. But are sought after because they are pre emissions. And if you are up to the challange and willing to throw money around lb7 is a good truck. Lly and lbz are going to be more dependable.
@StyleGT10 жыл бұрын
Thomas Molitor thanks for the quick awnser! i said LBZ or LLY i really dont want an lb7 they look so trashed around from alot of owners and miles its crazy..... LLY are in more in my price point of a truck that haul 2 motocross...... i just want a bulletproof trucks that can be drive everyday... just sold my k1500 97 305 had it for a couple of years never ever did anything except oil changes and air filter... i need something like this ... do you think the LLY is worth the bet of my money?
@StyleGT10 жыл бұрын
StyleGT the 305 was an heavy duty package with 6 lugs wheels and heavier chassis.. always believed for me it was better to get a 3/4.... and friends get decent MPG with their cummins and lb7 so im thinking of getting an LLY....
@thomasmolitor96010 жыл бұрын
Sorry, was late when I read it and thought I'd seen lb7. But LLY is literally the same engine as the lbz. Difference is the lbz has a more aggressive factory tune, and a re designed turbo inlet pipe, they also did some slight re design for better engine air flow to keep it from over heating. So might as well go with the LLY, and I get 19.2 mpg in my truck.
@StyleGT10 жыл бұрын
Thanks alot, better bottom and piston on LBZ right? I dont even have the truck yet, but the headgasket thing is scares me to death. truck has 180,000 kilometers.... i heard that you can check the upper radiator hose if its rock solid it mean headgasket bad right? Make the truck runs and check in coolant if there is bubbles... and on the dipstick for rare coolant leaks right? Thanks alot thomas i truly apreciate your help, its my first diesel truck... i would have like an LBZ but not much work thoses days so i guess ill make an LLY bullet proof (: first thing is Coolant change, LBZ mouthpiece, pcv reroute, mbrp exhaust, efi live v2 and edge insight cts all in that order ( i need some speakers and alpine setup too but meh thats the least of my worries )

did you make sure it wasnt the injector harness #1 and #7 are common to go because of the angle of the harness they make an upgrade kit for them.
@thomasmolitor96011 жыл бұрын
To Rangerdangr, The injector showed signs of going out in a few ways. First was upon warm up the engine would rough idle, This can be several things besides injector. But While accelerating the engine would want to stall, along with alot of white smoke would billow out of the engine accompanied by a loud squeaking noise from the engine. If you are having injector concerns take it to a mechanic and have them do a balance rate tests on the injectors. Should be $50-$90 depending on place. They can tell you which injector is bad and which is still good.
@Strunz010 жыл бұрын
Also something to note, was that my stuck injector didn't throw a dash code but there is a code in there for the #4 injector when scanned. Having the Edge Insight monitor is definitely something I would recommend for everyone to have

@MrRati411 жыл бұрын
Awesome video, that helps out a lot! Is #5 injector just as easy to replace?
@thomasmolitor96011 жыл бұрын
With the #5 Injector you need to remove the fuel filter and housing to get it out. But essentially the same. Injectors on the drivers side are a bit harder because of the disconnecting of wire harnesses ECT.
@MrRati411 жыл бұрын
Im not a happy camper right now. A local diesel mechanic told me #5 and #7 injectors were bad. After watchin your video I told myself I could do that, so I did. Turned it on, and my truck is still doing the samething. I'm thinkin he told the wrong injectors were bad. That S.O.B. any suggestions?
@thomasmolitor96011 жыл бұрын
I dont know what your symptoms where before you changed your injectors. Did you buy brand new injectors or re-manufactured? Did you torque down the injector to the right spec? I actually had to do mine twice, The first injector i bought was faulty and had to be replaced with a seconded one. No extra cost just exchanged.
@MrRati411 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't go over 25mph and would have more white smoke than cheech and chung. It would spit and sputter.thats when I took it to the mechanic. I didn't torque them, you think that might be the cause? Do you know What the torque spec is?

If it was the FICM then replacing the injector wouldn't have solved the issue. If you are having a FICM issue there is a "ice pic" method to fix that.

I see you did not have to remove the valve covers as another video on an 02' showed the covers having to be removed.I have an 05' and it would be nice if no covers had to be removed.How long would you say it would take to replace all injectors on a 05' LLY motor. thanks for the video and all your help! These videos make a difference
@thomasmolitor96010 жыл бұрын
That is correct, the LLY motor does not need the valve covers removed. If you are going to change all injectors at one time. It will take the better part of a day. Assuming you have all parts tools and nothing breaks. Injectors 1,2&3 are the most difficult to remove.

@timt2tinsley10 жыл бұрын
1 - What codes was it throwing ? 2 - How do you know it wasn't a weak connection at the harness at #2 and #7 ? 3 - Did you inspect the large wire loom coming off the FICM, where it crosses the bracket ? It's the first place to look for bare wires, and a good place for everyone to do some preventive work..... NOTE - the dealer wants $300 for a kit. A guy on Ebay sells the same kit for $180. Another guy on Ebay sells just the connector, (no kit) with an 8" pigtail, that will work on any injector connecter...$22 inc s/h
@thomasmolitor96010 жыл бұрын
1. It was not throwing any codes or signaling the check engine light. 2. I had had taken the truck to my local GM dealer where they were able to do a Balance rate test. Upon increase and decrease of power on each injector They were able to create and fix the symptoms with the faulty injectors. ( you can do these tests yourself if you would like to spend 600+ for the scanner and program.) 3. I did a physical inspection of the connections and wires leading from the FICM to the Injectors. It is always a good idea to inspect the wire harness and connections before diagnosing faulty injector. The most common place for wire grounding is where the wires come across the Alternator bracket.

Hey Tomas, Just watched you video and it was great. I have a 07 classic with the lbz and have a ticking issue right now. it still has great power, starts with ease, and has 0 smoke or haze. To me it sounds like it is a rocker arm issue, but I am no diesel mechanic. Or maybe some kind of exhaust leak. (seems loudest on driver side near the rear of engine and the top of the head,and under boost) . any thoughts? And is changing an injector on the lbz about the same as what you did in this video? Thanks in advance.
@thomasmolitor9609 жыл бұрын
Ticking could be almost anything. Injectors to lifters to the manifolds to Pistons to the injector hold down bracket not tight or warped. I would have it diagnosed before throwing money at it. And the LBZ motor and the LLY are one in the same. Some differences but none that are going to effect replacing the injector.

Why didn't you replace the head gasket on the other motor? I've been told that after you do the new gasket and studs those are bullet proof.
@thomasmolitor9606 жыл бұрын
You are probably referring to the upgraded ARP stud kit. Which I would have done if I indeed had to do it. But the dealer I purchased the vehicle from had written me a IOU to fix low coolant light issue. Which turned out to be the head gasket. They decided to swap the motor. I am now 60k into the "new" motor and all is well.

Are you absolutely sure it wasn't just a bad injector harness? You mentioned #2 and #7 which are prone to having the harnesses lose connection. It will shut down that bank of cylinders and run rough or shut off. I appreciate the video because my #4 injector just went out and is showing that it's stuck wide open. Balance rates are +15 on that injector so I'm going to replace it. Hopefully going to test the return tomorrow just to be sure
