It’s beautiful. I will be modeling this same theme! Light and Bright! I have 3 boys also. 8,5,2 and this room looks so functional! And did I hear Gabriel? That too is my youngest sons name! You’re doing great! I enjoyed the video so much that I just had to subscribe! Thanks!

Its true, color plays a major roll in attitudes. But you picked beautiful bright colors. The child size picnic table in the center is nice touch.

After 6-8 years in public school, my three boys didn't want a school room! We do have a large guestroom, so I use that to store the majority of our homeschool supplies and books when they aren't in use, and I keep the ones currently being used in a cabinet in the kitchen, along with their art supplies and paper products. We either school in my husband's man-cave, in the breakfast nook, or in the great room off of the kitchen. It works for us! Your room looks great, and I'd love to have a dedicated school room someday, but with only 5 years of school to go, and a probable move or two in the near future, I'm just going to go with the flow 😉
@LeslieMaddox5 жыл бұрын
Even though we have a homeschool room (a different, smaller one than the one in this video since we've moved), we tend to homeschool all over the house as well, and even outside! It's nice to have a change of scenery sometimes. I thought that we might transition out of a schoolroom when the kids are older, but they love it and are even in there on the weekends to do their little crafty projects since that's where I keep the supplies.

Beautiful school room! I love the picnic table in the middle - that's so practical. I'm a paint fanatic, so I love that you gave us the paint color. The one-on-one teaching spot is really smart. We have that setup in my actual home office, but that creates a lot of interruptions because the kiddos love to color-work while I work across from them. It's still fun, though. We love those workboxes as well - it's so easy to keep track of the curriculum. This was such a helpful video!! TFS!
@LeslieMaddox7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I got the little picnic table for when little friends came over and joined us in the schoolroom, but my then-2-year-old loved it so much that I keep it in there now for him to work/play. And I was able to wipe an abundance of dry-erase marker from it, too. :-| And you're right, providing a place for the kids to sit with me is also an invitation for interaction, which makes getting other things done difficult. Our next house will have a separate room for me as a home office/craft room/mommy-time room. Preferably in a separate space on the property, because sometimes mommy wants to be by herself. ;-)

Hi Leslie. I just happened upon your page while searching for homeschool room tours. Girl, I LOVE the spaciousness of your school room and how you have everything set up! Are you in your new home yet? And if so, have you done a new homeschool room tour? I look forward to seeing it.
@LeslieMaddox6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I loved the spaciousness, too! We are in our new house, and our current schoolroom is much smaller. Still trying to get used to it. I haven't done a new video yet as I'm still trying to get it set up to work well for us. But I do plan to do a new room tour video when that happens. Thanks for watching!

Our schoolroom is on the main floor and it doesn’t make it easier with a 2 year old! 1st year of structured homeschooling for us and it’s a challenge with him. I put a lock on the door to lock us in together because he was always trying to run out BUT you don’t want a 2 yr old out of sight especially when he loves to get into the fridge haha! Love the look of your school room and the space you have is awesome!! I’m tempted to take over our living room sometimes haha because I feel like I need more space!
@LeslieMaddox7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We're actually in our new house with a schoolroom on the main floor, and it's been a game-changer for us! Our new schoolroom is pretty small, but I made the dining room across the hall into a playroom, so that helps a lot with the youngest. With the little ones, I feel that it helps to break up the day into different types of work, maybe in different parts of the house, so that we don't spend hours on end in the schoolroom. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much! I got the workbox indicators on Amazon. This is the item I purchased - Check-it (amzn.to/2tyJrTD). Unfortunately, it looks like it's unavailable. A similar item is here (amzn.to/2tP8ZHd), although I'm unsure of dimensions. And thanks for suggesting that I share the workbox labels! I've added a page on my blog where you can download them - lesliemaddox.com/freeprintables/. I hope this helps!

what lighting/equipment fo you use? such great quality and love the room!
@LeslieMaddox7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I assume you're referring to the camera? I used a Canon EOS 70D. I used the kit lens to film myself, and I think I used my Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens (the nifty-fifty) to film the room ( I can't remember, it's been a while, but I probably did since it allows a wider aperture). I also used a Diva Ring Light to film myself because I need all the help I can get. ;-)

Where did you get you calendar? I’ve been having g a terrible time find one that’s big enough.
@LeslieMaddox6 жыл бұрын
This is the calendar I got: www.amazon.com/Teacher-Created-Resources-Calendar-Bulletin/dp/B000VE57US/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=sl1&tag=c013b-20&linkId=6094eac12740924f8c53ac9d5821ff41. I also got a variety of styles of calendar numbers at Lakeshore Learning and Mardel, just to keep it fun. We use velcro dots to put up the numbers. I was inspired by a video Erica at Confessions of a Homeschooler did about her calendar setup: www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/blog/2015/02/calendar-bulletin-board-setup-use.html.

I loved everything about this video as is my new favorite, it was straight to the point with tons of info!!!! My son is 3 years old and I really want him to learn Spanish. No one else in our home speaks any other language other than English any advice???
@LeslieMaddox7 жыл бұрын
My kids speak only English, so I'm probably not the best person to give advice on the topic, but I think that immersion is the best way to go. I learned English by going to kindergarten and having my mother come with me for a while and translating, and then I was on my own. You may want to look to see if there's a Spanish immersion preschool in your area, or maybe try to set up playdates with kids that are Spanish speakers. Good luck!
@jpalms71637 жыл бұрын
Thank you! For some reason I thought you mentioned Spanish words or something that made me think you were teaching your kids Spanish... my bad lol ! 🙈
@LeslieMaddox7 жыл бұрын
+J Palms No, you were right, I did try different things to teach my kids some Spanish. None of it worked! LOL. At least I tried. That’s why I’m saying that immersion is the way to go.
