Hi wheels2 walking although I’m not in a wheel chair for good I have been using one for the last 8 months due to cancer and my hip being Broken in two spots from it,I’m slowly walking more and more and can now walk about 150 feet without any help, I’m only 14 and I find your videos helpful and inspiring to get get up and get stuff done thanks for sharing your journey and experience you have helped and inspired many.great vids keep up the good work👍😁

You should look into getting a robot vacuum, they can really help with allergies since you can schedule them to vacuum daily. It will get the cat hair off if your floor really quick.

agreed. Only thing to be aware of in a wheelchair is that they have a habit of finding the hardest to reach location possible & then somehow managing to get themselves stuck in there & will then sit there giving a "help, help, help" beep until you manage to somehow drag them out with a variety of grabby sticks & hooks & as soon as you free them, they will turn around & try to run back into the corner they just got stuck in again!!!!!!!! Mind does it under my bed all the time, goes under there to the back corner & then decides there's not enough light & so it's stuck because of that & beeps at me cause of it. I actually have to "vacuum proof" my home before I let my robot vacuum out. They're seriously worse than pets sometimes lol. The video place looks like it would be really well suited to a robot vacuum cleaner though, the less mess/clutter, the better they fit in

I walk around my apartment but I always end up in a seat so it’s not for any kind of time or distance. I’m almost always in the wheelchair outside of the house unless I am going from a chair to a chair. Walking is slow and painful.

I can walk around my house but i must often sit down or i lean on walls etc. But outside i prefer a wheelchair, too much pain and too slow for a 37 year old woman😬😜. Many people don't understand that. Wheelchairs are a great help, i dont care of what people think. Before i had a wheelchair, i only sat at home, doing nothing, thinking about my desease: that's a lot more sad and depressant, compared with a sport-wheelchair, a wheelchair that give me oportunity to live and do a lot of things that i love.

Such a cute kitty. I am in a chair too. I share a house with four dogs and boy friend. Weekly sweeping, moping often. We have been doing this for ten years and I never knew about approach from the side in your chair. Will make cleaning easier I pray. I run the dish washer because I can't wash dishes easy. Thank you for the glimpse into your life. I use my air fryer for everything including toast. It is so much easier to pull it out then a pan from the oven. I use a rice cooker too.

You should look into a robot vacuum with a mopping attachment… it can do both and it will put itself back to charge when it’s done. You can set up zones in your house of where you want it to clean and all you have to do is fill it with water and soap to mop!

Hey, love your vids! I was in a workplace accident going on 6yrs this September, T10-T11 incomplete para unable to walk with constant pain and spasticity. After my accident my wife left me so I moved into a condo, very nice but was always afraid of fire. I now own a small horse farm in the country with 7 horses and two dogs, my daughter chose to live full time with me so I also took the responsibility of her at the age of 12, she is now 18 and one helluva young woman. I'm very proud of what I've accomplished since moving out on my own, we're definitely stronger than we think. I'm completely independent, drive, ATV, sled (snowmobile) ect...and will be building a 1979 cb650 into a cafe racer over the next couple yrs so I can finally get to throw a leg over two wheels again...Keep up the awesome vids!!!

I have L5S1 and 6 I suffer a lot of pain I had a good guy ,but I looked after my mum for 6 years when I got home I could hold my bowels or urine he left me , your so lucky to have such a wonderful daughter I’m happy for you much love sent 💕

Been in a power chair for 10 years. Totally adapted my apartment so as to remain always independent. I am a 95+ year old female. Do my own cleaning dishwashing, vacuuming , meal prepping- I do everything myself. Take no meds, have no pain.

Your apartment is so interesting! It wasn’t built accessible but it works perfectly for your needs. As a carpenter, I’m becoming more and more inspired to build accessible homes from watching yours and others videos. There are so many simple things we could be doing that just make life easier. Wider doorways, no carpet, smooth transitions etc. So inspired!!

yeh, I'm fortunate enough to live in a purpose built wheelchair home, it makes SUCH a difference! Watching videos like this really reinforces that for me. I have no carpets (and my floors are a laminate type floor board system that's waterproof & virtually indestructible, which is awesome, cause if a small stone or other sharp little object ends up on the floor & gets run over, it can cause some real damage to a lot of floors before you realise what's happening) & the big difference in mine is all under sink/bench shelves are set back, so that there's space to wheel under everything. It does reduce available storage space, but it's worth it for the extra ease of access it provides imo & of course all the benches are at my height too, since I live alone. There are designs available that can move the benches up & down for homes where there's 1 walking person & one wheelchair one, but I don't need that, just the low height for everything

Wow! You are so much like me in many ways. I really admire your energy. I’m a p/t chair user so I am able to stand up to do things many days for short periods but I never have that kind of endurance anymore. I find being disabled very exhausting in itself and am always looking for ways to help me do things without help as much as possible. I have the Dyson vacuum, too and I love it more than most people could understand, lol. It is so light and easy for me to maneuver. Before I got it, I had to beg and plead for someone to vacuum. The only things I can’t do are take out the trash, mop the floors, do baseboards, and scrub the bath. I am still looking for a way to get them done without relying on anyone. You have a great place! I would do the same and turn my bedroom into my studio (art) and use the living room as a bedroom. My favorite is “Do what matters,” and your happiness equation because they both relate to my frame of mind at some point every day. Thank you for your video. New Subscriber!

She has cerebral palsy and is in her wheelchair nearly twenty four seven except for when she goes to bed. This past year she has been inspired to stand up and advocate for herself and others. Yep. I lived in a student accommodation from age 16 to age 23 (masters grad) and the number of people who assumed my housemates had to do stuff for me - when in fact they did not know how and I taught them! Developed additional issues later but it annoys me my amily assumed I couldn't live alone. In many ways I was more independent because doing things slower means people leave you to get on with it alone while they work in groups! Its actually tougher for me with my cognitive fatigue issues trying to describe what I want help with than do it myself sometimes!

Smartest accesable apartment I've ever seen, I remember when my son got to about 4yrs and had to go in a proper wheelchair v a disabled buggy for toddlers/young kids and I really didn't want one that looked really disabled and bulky and old fashioned basically. That may sound bad but I was a young mother who was at the time struggling with the fact my son wouldn't ever have a normal life he is mentally impaired aswell as the physical side and I used to really struggle with it. Its nice to see you can still have a beautiful looking home that works for you practically aswell and things dont have to look a certain way also I have never watched you before but you seem really cool Ive subbed anyway 😍

The kids actually love it when they graduate from a buggy chair (I remember those!) to a grown up 'proper' wheelchair - I have CP as does a friend's son - age 8 he rebelled and insisted on a proper space n tilt chair - it happens to be the make I use and he showed me tips I didn't even know about!

@@Wheels2Walking This video brought me joy! I am starting to realise how to conserve energy after years of pushing either too hard or not enough and this is such a boost! Currently the box room is getting a makeover as a closet like yours because though the UK doesn't do walk in closets but like you, I use the sitting room as a bedroom and the second bedroom is being adapted to a closet that I can wheel in is my new goal as of this video! You've refreshed my determination to sell the stuff there is no way I will now use - but also I've realised wheels indoors open up the number of spaces I can use without bending to access say, more beloved books. I often think of the accessible hotel rooms that are uncluttered that I have stayed in and have no idea how to get there but this video really shows how! Same with the clothes - so much sanity in that!

Take it from disabled people, if you have mobility issues or you are looking for a litter Box that makes your life easier before you before you look at any other powered litter Box look at the litter Box look at the litter robot they have models starting around $400 sometimes I think less if you can find a refurbished one well well worth the money you save time you don't have to worry about hurting yourself trying to change the thing, they can even use standard trash bags So when you use up the litter robot supplied bags you don't have to buy special bags or special litter or anything specific to the unit

I love how you you organized your medications. I have a 4 in one organizer because I take meds 5 times a day, and they don't make a 5 in 1 medication organizer. I take meds morning noon and night, along with taking a med between 3 and 4. Then I take some before bed

I don't have a physical disability but VERY limited energy and executive skills because of severe mental disorders. One of the BIGGEST challenges with living on my own was to keep the house clean, my dish, my laundry etc. I just couldn't do it and I cried SO many times and without the help from the assistants from the psychiatry I wouldn't have made it. Now I'm about to move on my own again and to minimize all items seems like a GREAT idea. I will seriously try to do this. Don't keep things just because I like them - no. If I have one already, it's enough. Limit the material and you limit the work. Thank you SO much!!

That's a huge-ass apartment you have there, Sir - and a balcony! It's at least twice the size of my one-bed. I wouldn't trust living in a high-rise because of the risk of fire, or the elevator breaking down. I already have a wetroom, and I use a shower wheelchair my Aunt got through a Polio charity she volunteers with. I'm waiting to have my kitchen adapted through a Disabled Facilities Grant from my local council. Mine is tiny, and I'm having trouble reaching stuff from my wheelchair. I shudder to think how much a luxury place like that costs in rent. 😱

I’ve considered those things. We have 4 elevators so there’s always one working. The emergency stairwell is fireproof for 18 hours and a fire station next door. So I never fret and enjoy the view 😁

Hi there,just found your channeland i'm impressed with your set up. I have parkinsons and walking is not really good in public but around home its ok. Just started using a wheel chair. Luckily my ute ( pick up truck ,similar to a El Camino) is easy to carry my wheelchair and crutches. My journey has taken from Mining and fire fighting to a disabilty pension , In australia we have a government funded pension and National Disailbity scheme where the government pays ppl to assisst disabled people with no cost to the disabled ppl. Brilliant! Picking up soo many tips. I am currently adapting our space til we can find a ground floor placeAdapting stuff for me has massively reduced pain and frustration! Finally getting the kitchen knocked into shape and I can now look at what's in the tins cupboards because my office chair sits in the dining area which puts my meal planning right where it needs to be and I can also open the drawers that have the heaviest bags in. I have a similar vacuum so I shall see tomorrow if I can use it seated! I feel I might not panic at the thought of needing to get round in my chair indoors post op thanks to this video! Anything that preserves my independence or takes a load off my partner that I prefer to do anyway is a win! Thanks so much for the new ideas!

I'm not disabled, (but had a father who was and in a chair for several years up until he passed away). I do, however, nowadays suffer from fairly severe osteoarthritis in my hips, knees, and ankles. Was diagnosed with Hashimotos in 2014, and just last year was told my parathyroids are failing (which has now begun to affect my overall bone density). Doesn't help that I'm also very short (only 5'1") - and live alone (have for most of my life). While not in a chair myself, your video offers excellent tips that benefit nonetheless. I've always considered myself a minimalist - and I'm SO not a "girly girl (much more of a tomboy actually). From watching your video, however, I realized that I can become even more so! Which is seriously cool as I'm about to move from an apartment into my first-ever house (condo). God bless you bro for your strength and courage.

I come across all kinds of people at my workplace, and while im usually a very confident and bubbly person, i get scared to talk to people that are different than me in case i say something wrong. One time my boss made me give this lady a clipboard to sign a check because she was in a chair and i could tell it bothered her. Since then i remember her preference and dont do that but i cant help but remember that what seemed like a well intentioned act made this woman feel like we thought she wasnt capable. Your videos make me feel less like im going to make the wrong assumption or say the wrong thing when i come across other people in chairs. You're so badass.

I loved your presentation & am envious as hell! I'm an incomplete quad, can only walk in my dreams, and can only use my legs to pivot for transfers (can't stand). I need PROFESSIONALS (not sure what kind: architects...?) who are familiar with accessibility issues and could either renovate a partially finished basement or build a custom backyard ADU in a 1950's home (bought by me for my daughter, her husband & young child). $$ isn't a consideration (well, to a certain degree); but I need a place that's really "home," & that I would feel as comfortable (& almost as independent) in as you obviously do in yours. I am not needing a wheelchair or crutches due to an accident; an incomplete or complete injury, but I am discovering that i have a rare, genetic condition, along with other chronic illnesses, that is making me consider - heavily - a wheelchair (either a Karman or a Quickie), even when other think I am excessive, and it has shifted and turn my world in all sorts of upside and wrong way directions. I can walk yes, but not without immense pain. Hearing how you can live so independently and freely, even when using a wheelchair as some think could never happened, has lessened the stress and weight on my mind, heart and emotions. You understand. I thank you with every fiber I can give. You have no Idea how much even the simplest thing, like you equation H = R/E has helped me. I pray and hope all the best, and thank you for being yet another shining pillar of positivity. Please never give up.

I park on the street because my assigned spot is on the 7th floor parking deck and that is just too many circles for me. A few curb cuts, a two doors and I’m in. There is a trash chute so I just put it on my lap and roll down the hallway. Front desk manages packages and I’ll put them on my lap. I don’t really use the common areas but when I do they’re always accessible. Even the bathrooms. Elevators are key carded and that’s a piece of cake 👌🏻

So many great pointers in this video! I am moving in a few days and you have inspired me to minimize (yet again). I love the studio in the bedroom, I'm thinking of using one of my walk in closets, but I noticed the padding on the wall. Love the hot cold heater--I'm the very same way when it comes to sleep and rising in the morning. I am also allergic to pet dander. I have two Air fryers i use them daily at least once sometimes twice or more they cook great. Don't ask why two of them, i have cooked steaks in it BETTER than you would on the stove.

I see some area for improvements: front load washer and dryer ; roll under sinks: remove tub for roll in shower; bins in the laundry room to separate clothes

Yep! All valid improvements! This is just how I do it. I do have separate baskets for different kinds of laundry ;) I’m renting so I can’t be making any modifications like that though ;)

My right leg is amputated, seven months back, I am 54year lady initially took help but now living alone, I do sweep , cook, clean , of course my wheelchair help me alot, external support is available like fetching essentials, thanks to carona I can work from home, so I am financially independent, all is fine, only don't feel the reason to live

Nice man... place looks great. In AZ most houses are not too bad. Usually a small entrance lip that would be no issue for you. The last house i rented i used a very small lip ramp to help out. Lip ramp 😆. Now we are back in an apartment for the time being... Apartment is perfect for us... more space more clutter for me. In our new place my counters are lowered (really nice using the sink and seeing myself in the mirror.) My dad has a roll under sink... those are the dream haha. I always wonder if I should just be a consultant and roll around making the world more comfortable (for us) 😄 Btw we have cats too... theyre amazing companions. Love your munchkin more cat videos! haha. We have two siamese boys that never shut their mouths lol

i'm in a wheelchair 90% of the time and a walker the rest of the time i also have a feeding tube and a picc line for nutrion and i get seizure i can not live by myself cause of the seizure but watching u inspires me that maybe one day if my seizures r more controled i will b able to live by myself but my one gi what he said got to me this last time my mom my boyfriend and me did not like it at all he said no body is going to went me with tubes coming out of me but right now i need those tubes my mom said that is my personal life why would he say that

Love the how to make life easier tips, esp minimalism tips and organisation. More of this is def helpful - life w a disability involves SO MUCH EXTRA STUFF from admin to aids needed. Working on simplifying life but you have nailed it. I pop my pills out for weeks at a time - so much easier. I need to work on the simple wardrobe and kitchen though 😆 I 100% need the litter robot for my cat. Life goals.

Glad you are able to get on top of your medication. I have epilepsy and so have to take medication twice a day. Unfortunately even when I put my medication into dispensers It doesn’t help for me because I don’t always remember to go and take the medication. Meaning I miss my medication. Thankfully as I’ve gotten older missing medication doesn’t effect me so much (since I had open Brian surgery to remove the tumour that caused my seizures and slowly over the years my seizure frequency had significantly dropped) compared to what it used to. Unfortunately I can’t get my phone to do multiple alarms so not sure how to solve my problem. Anyone got any tips on remembering meds?

from a uk perspective the washers and dryers in this video are the weird designs. here in the uk its more common to see front load/unload doors as opposed to load/unload from the top
