Back in the day, during the mid-70's, the best hockey fights were in the WCHL junior league. Even during training camp when players were fighting for a position on the roster. I would watch young bucks try to take on the team's top enforcer to impress the coach. It typically didn't end well for the rook.

IIRC most if not all NCAA Div 1 arenas have their bench layouts like this. I think its to stop players on the bench from chirping each other. Definitely weird tho, as a scorekeeper I'd hate to not be centered on the ice, seeing the far end corners would be such a pain in the ass

About 20 years ago....in the old WCHL.....a game in San Diego.....San Diego Gulls vs Fresno Falcons. 3 fights broke out before the game even started...... Fight.......attempt to start the game. Fight.......attempt to start the game......Fight..... game started.....fight.....attempt to start the game. By the 5 second mark of the game.......there had been 5 fights. LOL.
