Soon to be travelling on that route to Inverness via Edinburgh Waverley. Have to change to a ScotRail service from Edinburgh to Inverness, but it should be a good journey.

Was there any at-seat catering provided ?

Not at your seat but you could walk through to the buffet car to pick up complimentary biscuits, crisps, water & a tea or coffee.
