A first view of 60163 ' Tornado' with it's fire lit after overhaul - Awaiting a boiler test over the next week or so before it can commence running in.
The A1 Peppercorn is sat opposite the signal-box at Loughborough, not in an idea place for a photo but that's no major concern..! Fire lit and simmering nicely in the sun!
See also Deltic 55019 sat awaiting it's next mission after recently transferring from the DPS workshop at Barrow Hill after 12+ months of repairs, plus a mix of other good looking locos all stabled together.
Also seen are steam duo 78018 & 78019 tootling around on the scheduled GCR services timetabled for the day.
Not far away now from Tornado running again!
If you're a fan of my videos and you just want to say 'Thanks'.. You can buy me a coffee and support my channel at the following link - www.buymeacoff...
Hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for watching.

The GCR is my favourite heritage railway. I drove both an 8F & the Robinson 04 there many years ago. Unforgettable! Tornado looks resplendent in her apple/Doncaster green livery, although perhaps she looked her best when wearing BR "Brunswick" green? Seems like she's almost ready to resume mainline service. I guess after your class 89 scoop at Brush it would have been rude not to pay the GCR a visit 😊

BR-transitional apple green is Tornado's main livery as she has worn it since being built in 2009 apart from when she was temporarily in BR Lined Express Blue & BR Brunswick Green. I'm not a personal fan of her in apple green. Even though I don't like BR liveries on locomotives built pre-1948, I think the Peppercorn A1s looked better in Brunswick Green
@RaggyAl1971
@RaggyAl1971 28 күн бұрын
Its not Apple Green,its LNER Doncaster Green,the LNER never termed it "Apple green",that's what train spotters pre 1948 called it because it resembled the green of an Apple.

@@RaggyAl1971 yes but the name has become synonymous with the livery so it really doesn’t matter

Great vid.Beautiful Tornado what a Machine and she looks absolutely fantastic. I miss steam on the Rails. I used to stand on Alexander Bridge in Weymouth, and get covered in steam, and s@#£&.We could hardly breathe for a while. Maybe a stupid thing to do,we could have had sparks,or bits of hot coal ejected. But boy, happy days.I think that most of them would have been Bullied Pacific’s. Together sometimes with a Banker to help on the gradient into Dorchester. Please correct me if I’m wrong. I was a young schoolboy at the time. And of course thinking that Steam would be around for years I lost interest. I regret that now as I was a camera enthusiast. Great Days.

Most likely not.. she will need to be ran in at the GCR which will take a few weeks.. From what I now, a heritage locomotive needs to have at least 1000 miles under her belt before she can be mainline registered but don’t quote me on that

IF IT WAS BUILT AT THE SAME TIME AS ALL THE OTHERS IN THE CLASS WHAT COLOUR WOULD IT HAVE BEEN PAINTED

Why does this loco have "British Railways" on its tender? It's an LNER design, and has absolutely nothing to do with BR, which had ceased to exist before it was built. Casual observers are now misinformed as to the engine's true heritage - surely the LNER deserves better?
@NSB463
@NSB463 26 күн бұрын
I don’t really see your point here. The trust could have easily turned her out in Great Eastern blue if they wanted to. And anyways, the apple green mixed with gill sans text does give you a mix of both LNER and BR. So what if it’s an LNER design? The first A1’s were built in 1948, after BR had already been formed. The LNER had already been dead for over a year when 60162 was built, and they lived out most of their careers under BR, so one could argue that they had more to with BR then they ever did with the LNER. So saying that she has nothing to do with BR is just plainly incorrect.
@andrewreynolds4949
@andrewreynolds4949 23 күн бұрын
The Peppercorn A1 class was designed under LNER, yes, but many were completed or built entirely after BR’s formation. Most of the class’ service life was under BR.

I think misinformation is only on your part. This great Loco has a well publicised history. From conception, through build, to birth and operation. All through a very accountable trust. They can paint it any colour they want. People flock to see it. It gives nothing but pleasure.
