Brilliant seeing 89 001 on the move again I was lucky enough to test running and drive the first passenger service from King’s Cross to Peterborough back in the 80s

That film was extraordinarily well made, with interest spots on laid up locos, no unnecessary waiting for road clears, and excellent close up work. A joy to watch! I trust that machine will soon be pounding up the WCML at 180 km/h (it was of course made for the ECML, but no matter).

I’ve pre-ordered a model of 89001 in GNER blue with white lettering from Accurascale. Delivery is expected in mid-February next year, which will make for a nice belated Birthday present for myself (I was born on 6 February 1968).

back in the day my mother went to London for a day out and said she saw a Loco outside Loughborough. I asked her if she could remember what it looked like and she said “ Not really but it was named Falcon” Since scraped a long time ago.

Great video 👍 A beautiful sight. Never seen the Badger before in person. Maybe soon ill see it. Shame only one was built. Still a sad sight seeing the 60s sit there. Its the 73 i feel bad for, love those things shame its sitting there without wheels or bogies. Im guessing the badger wont be on a Railtour until 2025. Keep up the good work 👍

Great video, but it seems somewhat surreal! If you'd asked me in 1986 whether I'd see a mainline registered class 37 in BR green towing Avocet along a road 2024, I'd have said you'd eaten the wrong mushrooms for breakfast ;)

60's were fitted out at Brush....but the bodyshells was built in Wakefield, hence why they've lasted so well!

I remember Making Tracks selling one of these for Train Simulator and raising funds to save the real life version. That must've been almost 20 years ago now!

I loved the 89 wuen it came out originally as the forerunner for The east coast fleet Saw if 88/89 at Doncaster bringing a charter from London for mallard forward . 91003 was sat in bay platform

Such a capable, powerful loco; great to see it fixed and hopefully its electronics will be more reliable. It would have been better to have a `slab end' to be more aerodynamic against a carriage, like the 91.

As I recall the class 91s which were scrapped their parts were used to fix this beaut there’s another class 91 in storage too just incase of breakdowns as spare parts

Class 91 has body mounted traction motors with drive shafts - 89001 has bogie mounted traction motors - not sure how interchangeable parts are/ were

Love the 37, weren't some of them nicknamed "Slugs"? Either way, I will never forget getting on a Regional Railways Class 37 (with a full diagram of MK3 TSO and BKO) and sitting in the first carriage hearing the good ole engine roaring to life leaving NWP to CDF.

To say brush works was closing down for good a few months ago it seems to be doing well n getting a lot of work coming thru, n the 33 has been there for a good 12 months now if not more

Just checked this site on google earth. It is so bizarre that those trains in the yard off to the left are on tracks not even connected to the main line. I’m wondering how they are going to move them if necessary.

Excellent piece of footage - well done! So good to see the Class 89 out and moving again. I haven't seen her move since I caught 89001 arriving/departing KX on IC workings many years ago. As a point of interest, as the locos departed the yard, the name on the side of the building was "Wabtec Faiveley", is that any connection to the Stone Faiveley who manufactured the pantographs for many of the early AL1 - 6 class AC locos? Great video. Sad to see the state of all they British built 60s sitting in some terrible states as all these freight companies are buying in foreign built locos and rolling stock. I wonder if theyll ever build modern locos in Britain again.

All the foreign companies haven’t bought anything, the tax payer provided them! That’s how a Tory organised private railway runs. Private companies get paid to do the work and take the profits while the UK taxpayer provides the rolling stock. Hence why so many British built locos are scrapped or in storage.
