So I had been stuck on toe checks for the longest time. It was so bad, that none of what Ethan explained made any sense to me. And I don't know what happened but I looked at this a little bit ago, just for the sake of maybe trying to learn them one last time. And I swear to you guys, everything just clicked. The video made perfect sense. IT WAS ALL SO SIMPLE. Follow everything he says and I swear toeside checks will be SO easy to learn. I'm not saying I'm good at them by any means, obviously I'm still learning. But now I'm consistently doing them with better form than I've ever had. I just thought I'd share/back up how important this video is for learning them. Perfect reference if you're stuck. For me, it was all about the front foot. THAT is what kept getting me.

little tip forgotten according to me: if you tend to do a 180, prevent that by keeping you slide below the 90 degree. If you reach 90 degree, it is harder to bring it back.

Why do some people point their front foot kind of towards the front of the board instead of the normal position when they do backside checks?
@MrDanielHawes
@MrDanielHawes 10 жыл бұрын
It makes you faster if your toes are pointed down the hill. More aero. Like Ethan said, the faster you go the easier the slide will be.
@TheParadoxSurfer
@TheParadoxSurfer 10 жыл бұрын
It helps with directional riding, which are the whole point of checks. makes it easier to keep a slide below 90 and bring it back. Watch Nate Blackburn skate a little, perfect example

does anyone have any advice on doing these fast. I can do them at about 20mph smoothly no problem, but anything above that I freak out. is there a technique to building up to fast toesides, or is it just a confidence thing I have to overcome?
@LoadedAmbassadors
@LoadedAmbassadors 7 жыл бұрын
Confidence is a huge part of it. That ties directly into your trust in your wheels and setups. Once your comfortable with higher speeds, the most important thing to think about is gradually easing into the slides. Think as if you are moving in slow motion for the beginning part of the slide, then as you drag the slide out, come back to real time and hook it up in "normal" speed. The slow motion technique helps you from over shooting the slide, kicking too hard, and either icing out or high siding. Other things to keep in mind at high speeds: -Lean with your chest into the hill, better to have to put a hand down than fall head over heels. -Use a corner. Helps direct the slides and hold them out longer, without fear of hooking up and aiming towards a curb. -Low degree trucks. More stable at high speeds and let you make smaller adjustments to the amount you're turning, preventing over steer and high sides or quick hook ups. -Stay low, grow tall, get low. Small posture at first helps keep your balance and prepare your legs. Rising up through the slides helps to de-weight the wheels as well as hold the slide out longer. Sinking down at the end of the slide allows you to hook up easier and with more stability with a low chance of high siding or losing balance. Good luck!

Guys are the loose trucks better for big standies. I do them but i get chatter (i have calibers 83a the cage and LY tomahawk 2013) and i think it might be from the trucks. I think i do the motion good but smth happens and the wheels start to chatter :/
@ethancochard9107
@ethancochard9107 10 жыл бұрын
if your trucks are too loose, then the hangar might jump around a bit. but honestly, people almost never have them THAT loose. usually its how you setup your wheels. first of all use spacers. if you dont use spacers, then get some and change your lifestyle. then you gotta make sure to tighten the nuts on the wheels all the way down to where they will spin, but not move side to side or make a "clicking" noise. lastly, check them bolts holding your trucks to your board. if those are loose, then chatter can come from there.
@petartodorov97
@petartodorov97 10 жыл бұрын
Ethan Cochard Thanks for the reply Ethan( love your vids)! I'm not that new to skateboarding and I always check if everything is tighten up. I got spacers etc. I realised whats the problem with the chatter. I used to kick the board with too much pressure and I couldnt keep the weight on my front foot.That's why the front wheels chattered all the time. Respect!
