I grew up with my parents collecting primitive antiques and really could not afford them so each piece always had a story behind it. My dad also took down a barn that was over 100yrs old.. put the barn beams up in our house..made wainscoting with a shelf chair rail out of the barn wood and made a wrought iron circle staircase. I still remember him talking my mom into agreeing to letting him cut a hole in our kitchen floor for the stairs to go downstairs where he added 2 more bedrooms. He made 2 closets on each side of the front door with the left o er barn wood. What I wouldn’t give to have that barn wood. He did that and owned and operated our family landscaping business. He was a busy man that the Lord felt the need to need him at the young age of 51. So primitive antiques run thru my veins. We always had vintage everywhere throughout our home as well. Mostly in the kitchen. We even drove to the Amana Colonies in Iowa one summer because my mom really wanted blue and white granite dishes. That had to be the late 70’s early 80’s and I remember being so bored. Lol. I must admit though…you got me hooked a few yrs ago on MCM, but primitive antiques step-back cupboards, pie safe’s, wardrobes, and the enamel stove that was in our kitchen “just as decor” will always hold a special place in my ❤️. Just wish my dad was still here😢

It has been years since I visited the Fogelsville Goodwill. There is a fantastic Chinese restaurant in Fogelsville, I usually order their orange chicken. I see a mother-daughter road trip in my future! My mom had several of the rooster refrigerator boxes. She used them for butter dishes. My favorite refrigerator box is my Hall refrigerator box in the shape of a 1930's era refrigerator. Three of my 4 kids have moved out and they asked me if they could have a box for butter!

I couldn't help but notice while you were looking at the Barbara Rose piece, that you totally ignored the southern folk pottery on the bottom shelf. (I know. Face jugs are not for everyone.) The only piece I could see well enough to identify was the Grace Nell Hewell face jug. Grace Nell was one of the premier queens of southern pottery. She was once dared that she couldn't throw 1000 pieces of pottery in one day. She did! Her pottery resells very well, especially a large piece like that one. I think the small blue face jug in front was made by Bobby Ferguson. A dear wonderful man, who was a 6th generation potter. His granddaughter Jamie is the 8th generation. Both the Hewell and Ferguson families are part of the long and rich history of folk pottery in the north Georgia mountains.

Yes, they can be! LOL My father's face jugs sell for $3000 - $5000. My grandfather's, $30,000 - $50,000. There are only 10 of those, & 2 are in the Smithsonian. (PS: My husband is in love with you! He is an old relic that might be recovered one day.)

The winged critters on the tray table are griffins. You pronounce Ikebana correctly. Personally, I am having trouble with signed/not signed pieces. I see a lot of signed work that is weak in design and a lot of unsigned work that is truly phenomenal. I think that if I had to choose whether or not to buy a piece on being signed or not, I would have to make my decision on the design. Good design lets my buy pieces that aren't my personal taste. Besides that, it actually makes the reselling a great deal easier because I don't have a particular affectation towards it.
@francesh34232 жыл бұрын
Do you not find the pieces don't move or fetch less $ than you can make any profit from? I pick up pieces for myself based on what draws me in but generally/generically signatures I find sell better
@jmcosmos2 жыл бұрын
I thunk they were gryphons at first, but then I noticed they only have two legs and not four, so that makes them wyverns.
@danielclaeys75982 жыл бұрын
@@francesh3423 Not really, but I generally have to be there to sell it. Personal taste is very subjective, good design and execution isn't. Names don't always reflect quality. Do you remember the Cadillac Cimarron? Cadillac wishes we all would forget that one. As a seller, I have to do it lot of homework. Pieces don't always sell themselves, signed or not.

00:30 I vote for the art class project. It doesn't feel accomplished enough to be a real primitive. 03:27 No, alas. 04:00 Yes, it would be clear. They always were, so you could look in and see what was inside: leftovers, or a biology project. 😄 09:20 It's my belief they're wyverns, which were quite popular among fantastical animals of the nineteenth century. At first I thought they were gryphons, but then realized they only have two legs rather than four. 12:47 Oh, take me back home, mother ... those chair-ottoman combos were considered the height of TV-watching coolth in my high-school days. 17:49 It's a Don Walton Pottery piece; he operates these days in Fancy Gap, VA out of a gallery called Mountain Star. $45 is kinda low retail for him, best I can tell. 18:56 I passed the second you said "flash." I got bit recently, buying two storage jars I thought were real ruby glass only to have all the "ruby" come off in the wash as I cleaned them for kitchen use. Fortunately, they're still usable for storing food.
