Karen, Longenberger is NOT out of business. The original office building in the shape of a giant basket is indeed closed but the company has reopened online. I’m in Ohio about 3 hours from them. They make all sorts of home decor which includes anything from laundry, bathroom, kitchen etc. I hope that is helpful information for you and Roger. ❤

The Amish dresses are interesting. I used to wear loose drop waisted dresses back in the 90s. Now, I wear loose dresses or caftans at home with bright prints, most of which I make myself from vintage fabrics. $2 is an incredible price! You can't buy a spool of thread for that these days, let alone fabric or patterns.

Some vintage Dollar Tree tchotchkes are actually collectible now. I had a darling nativity in the 90s and would love to have it again for the sweet memories. Because they were DT items I would let my then 2 year old son “play” with them and we would act out the Nativity story. He was always very careful and reverent (as well as a 2 year old can be!). What was I thinking when I sent it all to Goodwill??? 😮😢

I’m not sure of the exact origin of the phrase "You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.” (I do recall hearing it said in the popular TV series from the 1960’s, “The Beverly Hillbillies”!) But it means you can’t make something cultured and refined out of something crude and unsuitable. You can’t make something expensive out of something cheap. It can also mean “Don’t try to change something or someone into something they aren’t."

I watched a video a long time ago of a guy showing us that he wrapped a mug in bubblewrap, then in cardboard around it and threw it down the road, and it did not break. He stated as long as you wrap the outside in cardboard after the bubblewrap that nothing would break. He also stated that using the styrofoam peanuts never worked for him. So wrap up a mug and test it. Hope this helps.

You are to pottery and baskets what I am to glass. I love glass. I’m obsessed with glass. I have my mom’s collection. I even bought a chipped bowl because it was so thick and heavy and absolutely stunning. There were a few chips around the edges at the top, but I didn’t care. I put them towards the back in my China cabinet.

Oh I never say snow is gorgeous. I hate it. It snowed about a half an inch Valentines night and then it was mid 40s the next day so it was gone very quickly. It’s between 38 and 45 here in central Washington state and it’s going to be 50 starting Wednesday and then mid 50s for about four days. it shows a wintry mix today with a high of 41. But pretty much dry for the next 10 days. We head out for Vegas on Friday so I’m pretty excited to get down to the upper 60s.
